Light shone through the small wooden window, lighting up the room with that golden glow you only get at sunrise. Cal woke first this time, sleep didn't come easy to him that night too much information was thrown around and little answered. A mission, Kyia was on a mission of sorts, what is this place really.
He let his legs swing over the side of the bed, his boot-clad feet thumped against the stone as he began to stand stretching his arms high above his head. After making it sound like he broke his back he made sure to secure his axe in its holder before leaving the room.
Being on the first floor he was met with the sight of all the other people living there currently eating and chatting with each other. Brawny men trying to prove who was the strongest by arm wrestling anyone they saw.
From the corner of his eye, he could see a long green body moving closer to him. " Cal, its good to see you this early in the morning," Kyia said as she dragged him towards what looked to be the cook.
" Yeah, listen I'm not all that hungry,"
" Oh nonsense, a big man like you needs to try the food. Ryan makes the best breakfast hash you have to try it."
Now standing in front of the food line he was able to look at all the options. It was done buffet style and showcased dozens of options from meats to vegetable-based dishes, to rice and fried fish, even soups and bread. He trusted Kyia's suggestion of the hash and took a hefty plating of it as he walked slightly behind her both to not step on her tail but also she was leading them to a spot to eat.
" Sorry if you aren't used to big crowds, this is actually downtime for the inn right now."
"It's fine, but I do have questions."
" Sure what're they, ill answer what I can"
" On this mission, you were on, do you know where the men who attacked you came from?"
" No, I was just told I had to watch them, see if they did anything suspicious."
" Like what,"
" Well, um... you know," She replied clearly trying to change the subject. " I really shouldn't be saying this but we're looking for a friend of ours who kinda went rogue and others are also looking for him. So we wanna find him before they kill him or something happens to him."
Cal nodded as he took a large spoonful of the hash as she continued to ramble on. Looking for someone yet others are looking to kill them. Interesting situation they're in.
" Well, now that you've told him about that I guess we have to explain everything now," The seated jumped from the voice behind them, Kyia's eyes went wide and Cal turned around to see Klaus dressed to the nines like he seemed to do. A smile stretched across his face but it wasn't a good one bringing a shiver up Cal's spine. Klaus sat down to the right of Kyia, so her left, placing his plate on the table Cal could see it only had various meats. " You might know of whom we're talking about. He's gotten himself into quite a lot of trouble recently. His name is Horgus, he was one of the founding members of the organization. An angry kid but his heart is in the right place, mostly."
" Name doesn't ring a bell."
" Course it doesn't, you know him more as the reaper. He's a griffin hybrid one of a kind I believe."
" A griffin? Large feather right?" Cal asked his fists clenching under the table.
" Oh, so you have. You see we weren't moving fast enough for him and he decided to take matters into his own hands. By killing humans and I fear he lost sight of what he truly wanted to achieve."
Wait hold up one second. So the reaper was a griffin, easy to come to that conclusion but he worked for the rebellion but now works against them? So this is the rebellion. The first town they reach and they find the rebellion!
" Oh, miss me with that bullshit." He said slamming his hands down on the table.
" Cal, you break that table and I will break your arm." Vayle's voice came from behind him. " It's good to see everyone could meet so early in the morning. Very lively."
Everyone froze and just looked at the unicorn. Kyia was nervously laughing, Klaus just grinning away and Cal was staring at her, his eyes blown wide. She huffed as she sat herself to the left of Cal. " We aren't "bullshitting" you, this is what people call the rebellion just undercover as an inn. Yes, Horgus is the reaper and yes you are a dragon. I'm not repeating myself anymore to you so get that in your tiny walnut brain."
The rest began talking about whatever, while Cal just grumbled and ate like a toddler throwing a tantrum. They talked about Kyia's attack and ideas on who the mole was but it all came to dead ends or just wasn't a viable idea. His hash had long gone cold and cold eggs are disgusting, plus he just wanted to bang his head on the table from all the arguing between them but before he could a small placating hand was placed on his shoulder and a head rested atop his.
" Good morning everyone, hope he wasn't too much," Tanen said as he sat on Cal's right. Placing 2 mugs down both filled with coffee. " Noticed you didn't have one Cal."
" Didn't see them." He replied, Tanen and the coffee calming his nerves down.
" Well wanna head to the meeting room so we can talk about recruiting you guys," Kyia said as she slithered around the table. " Come on, the second floor, first door okay?"
The guys nodded as the rest got up and headed off towards the meeting room.
" You need to be nice to them Cal," Tanen said as he blew on his hot coffee.
" Well I don't trust them, we just met them and they freely let us know all this information,"
" Well yeah that's odd, but if we need to get out we get out okay?" Tanen asked. Cal gave his classic grumble as a response. He just smiled. Tanen knew it was hard for him to trust them, but they seemed nice and they are the same as him which is a huge plus for the two of them. But he was gonna wait for Cal to finish his coffee before dragging him up those stairs to make a life-changing decision.
