Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

Rayla's POV:

I look around every centimetre of my room, at the white, picture less walls to the little hole that I made, at the top right corner of my bed, committing everything to memory. This will be the last time I see this place. I sit down on my bed as I remember the time I found out.

Beep. Beep. I press my ear against my bedroom door, straining to hear what was going on. "Hi. You must be the guardian." My mother said in her sweet voice. Guardian? What guardian?

"Who have you chosen?" asked the stranger. Chosen? What is going on? "I hate to say this but we choose... Christina." My father replied.

What? Me? I dash from my room and to the front door. "What's going on here? What do you mean you choose me? I ask hurriedly. The stranger stepped front and took my chin in a hard grip, forcing me to look in his eyes. His eyes flashed black.

I gasped and took a step back. He's like me? I can't believe it, he's like me. I thought I was the only one. The stranger looked back at my parents, "She's perfect. I'll be taking her next week. Make sure her bags her packed."

Wait, what? He'll be taking me? He left, leaving me standing there with my parents "Mom. What is he saying?"

I look at my parents and see grief in their eyes. No, no, no, no, no! This can't be happening. Are they going to get rid of me that quickly? I look at my parents again but this time with disgust in my eyes.

"Christina, we can explain." My father steps forward, but I take a step back, shaking my head. "How could you?" I run to my room, ignoring the shouts of my father. I slide to the floor, tears gathering in my eyes.

I know should act depressed, but I can't help smiling. I can finally get out of this place, away from the parents who regret ever having me, away from everything that has ever happened here I can finally begin a fresh start in my life.

"Christina!" someone bangs on my door, "He's here." I sigh as I grab my duffel and open my door, to find my annoying little sister, Marie, and my father. They quickly bust in my room, grabbing my bags.

Before I would have started screaming at them, but this time I just look my room one last time, as I the door.

I walk to the door, to find my mother standing there, clutching her hands together like she's praying. "Christina..." Without a word to her, I walk to the car waiting for me at the sidewalk. I see my 'guardian' looking in his phone, leaning on the car.

I stop in front of him and he lifts his eyes to me. With a nod, he opens the trunk and lets my father put my bags inside. I slide in the back seat with my duffel bag. As I slide in, I keep my eyes down on my lap.

Someone taps the window but don't look up, knowing who it is. My window slides down on his own. "Christina," comes my mother's soft voice, "I want you to text us when you get there, ok?"

When I don't look up, she puts the phone on my lap. I immediately grab it and begin studying it. "I want you to know that we will always love you."

Love me? Yeah, right. They haven't loved me ever since that night. "We need to go, Mrs Paterson." With that, Mother steps back. The car starts to move but I don't look up and keep on studying the phone.

I have never had a phone. My sister and brother got one, but the never gave me one because of my own 'protection'. I guess they were just scared that I would call someone to tell them what I am. I quickly type in a text message to my mother.

Looking at the text, I slip into unconscious. The text message shining brightly from the open phone, a text message that will determine my whole future, a text message that said, "I hate you."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Wake up." I wake up, groggily, trying to get a sense of my bearing. I look up and see the half-crescent moon shining, with lights brightly giving light around us.

I also see planes taking off and landing, with people running around inside the buildings. Then it comes to me that we are at an airport. "If you are done staring, would you get out of the car so we could move along?"

I quickly grab my duffel bag and exit the car, not wanting to anger him. I see two strongly built men that I didn't see before, carrying my backs up to a small plane that was separate from others. I walk quietly behind them, not saying a word.

When we enter the plane, I gasp. The whole decor is a creamy colour with white seats. There is a mini kitchen at the back of the plane with a door at the front that leads to the pilot seats.

"Close your mouth. You'll get flies in." says one of the men. I quickly close my mouth that I didn't know was open and embarrassingly sit on one of the white seats.

I immediately skin into the soft cushion seats, wanting to immediately go to sleep. "Fancy, isn't it?" I look at my guardian who comes and sits in front of me.

He puts his elbows on his knees and stares at me. I try not to squirm under his and start playing with my fingers. "I know you have lots of questions, but let's start with a simple question. What's your name?"

"Christina." I reply quietly.

"Full name."

"Raylana Christina Paterson." I reply quietly.

"What."

"Raylana Christina Paterson." I say loudly.

"Well then, Raylana, my name is Akatsuki Hassildor and I will be your master."

"Master?" I ask confused, "Aren't you supposed to be my guardian?"

He chuckles and leans forward, "Do you know who or what I am?"

"You're assassins. You train assassins, don't you?" His wicked grin was all the answer I needed. "Why did you deny that to my parents?"

"Did you really would admit it, having me cost a girl that could potentially be my next assassin?" That makes me quiet. His reason does make sense. "But still, that doesn't answer my question, how are you my 'master' and not my guardian."

"Well you see, I will put you in a family that will take care of you and while that family will take care of you, I will train you to be an assassin." He explains.

"What if I don't want to be an assassin?" I ask.

"Then you will have to get off the plane." I quickly look at him, alarmed, "What do you mean?"

He sighs and leans backward on the seat, "You have three choices. You can come with me, stay with a family and be an assassin, or instead training to be an assassin, you can be a courtier. Or, you can decide to be neither of those things and get off on the next bus stop. The choice is yours."

He stands up from his seat, "Choose wisely Raylana because once you decide that decision will be final." With that, he leaves me to my thoughts.
