"Hey! Give that back!" I chase Tyler around the house, shouting at him to give me back my novel.
Tyler laughs and takes off, his black wings flapping while he waves the novel above him. I stop under him, shielding my eyes from the sun, "Hey! No flying!"
"Says who?" I huff as I sit down, still staring at him.
"Aw. What's wrong, little Ray-Ray. Can't reach me?" he laughs, still waving my book over my head.
"Don't call me that!" I whine. It's been two weeks and Tyler and I have been giving along pretty well, which resulted him giving me the nickname 'Ray-ray'(which by the record I hate).
No one had mentioned the whole 'killing' situation, and I prefer it that way. Dad (which is Paul) explained to me why I couldn't talk to any of my past family and even let me talk to Reyna one last time before I had to say goodbye.
Right now, life is good, which would be great if Tyler would just give me back my novel. "Guys, dinner!" comes Mum's voice.
Well, I guess we will continue this tomorrow." Tyler descends back down and I take that opportunity to grab my novel. I pounce on him, but he already predicts that act. I grabs my out-stretched hand, twists my arms and pull my back to his cheat. "Got cha'." He laughs.
Elbow him in the stomach, then kick him on his private parts and then pin him down.
Huh. I look around and find Akatsuki with Dad standing in the corner of the house, watching us.
I quickly elbow him in the stomach which makes him drop my hand, kick him which makes him drop my novel and while he is distracted, jump on him, using his own weigh to pull him down, securing his wrists in my hands and my knees on his thighs. "Got cha'." Tyler looks at me in surprise.
"How did you… when you… What!" He strutters still confused. A slow claps begins behind us, as Akatsuki and Dad and walk towards us.
"See, Paul. I told you she will be the one." I get off Tyler and grab my novel before Tyler got up. "Sire." Tyler stands up behind me, but with his back straight, shoulders up and chin high.
"Tyler." Akatsuki looks at me, "Raylana." Dad clears his throat, then I suddenly remember, "Sire."
"How are you doing, Raylana."
"Good. How about you, sir?" From the corner of my eye, I see Dad nod his head in approval.
Pride swells in my chest for finally getting something right. Before he got response, Mum comes behind us, "Sorry to interrupt, Sire, but dinner is ready."
"Right, why don't we go inside?" We all walk inside, while I try to stay far away from Akatsuki.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
We all eat dinner quietly, the tension in the air palpable. "So," Mum breaks the silence. "What brings you here, Sire?"
"I wanted to see how Raylana is doing, you know fitting in."
"About that, Sire, when will Rayla be starting training?" I nearly choke on Dad's words, training already.
"I was thinking about starting her training next week." Answers Akatsuki his eyes on me.
"If you don't mind me asking, Sire, why next week? I mean, can't we wait until her school starts." I see Dad give Mum a warning stare, but Mum ignores it.
"Right, about that. I'm going to train Raylana personally, so you won't get to see her frequently for the next few years, but you will get visits until she's a hundred and sixteen."
Personally! Great, I'm going to be moving again and see will be the second family I won't get to see, again. Wait, did he say a hundred and sixteen.
"Wait a minute. Why a hundred and sixteen? Can I turn a hundred and sixteen?" I ask. Mum and Dad all look at me with disapproval. What? This is my life, so I can question them if I need to. Right?
"Because, when you will a hundred and sixteen, you will be given a choice."
"What sort of choice?"
"If you will want to stay with Paul and Matilda and become part of their family, or go back to your own family and spend the rest of your life there. Meanwhile, I'm going to train you personally like I said and make you the best assassin I can make you." Akatsuki continues on looking at me, waiting for a reaction.
I swallow, suddenly regretting my decision, "Ok."
Akatsuki nods, "Good. Paul and Matilda, I need to talk to you about arrangements."
"Of course." Dad gets up with Mum.
"Rayla, can you clean up the table?" Mum asks me, as she gets up. I nod my head, not trusting my words. Mum, Dad and Akatsuki leave the room.
Tyler looks at me and gets up, "Well, that was not awkward at all." With that, he leaves me alone.
