Chereads / The Shadow Mistress / Chapter 8 - Chapter 7

Chapter 8 - Chapter 7

"Wake up!" I quickly jerk up awake and look up around, alarmed. In front of stood a girl with brown hair and hazel-coloured eyes. "Who are you?" I ask, knowing I should be afraid with her armour and sword on her hip, but with all I have been through, it doesn't surprise me at all. She glares at me. Great! Now one more person can hear my thoughts. "You have get ready. Sire is waiting for you."

"Ok." I say uncertainly. I get out of the comfortable bed and begin heading to the bathroom, but stop. I turn to her sheepishly, "I don't have any clothes." She points to a pile sitting on the chair beside my bed. I laugh nervously while picking up the pile of clothes and rush to the bathroom to change.

When I come out, I see her sitting on my bedside, playing with her sword. I wait for a couple of seconds for her to notice me. When she does, she straightens out her posture and glares at me. "Put your hood." As soon as I put my hood on, she knocks on the door three times.

The door opens and one of the bodyguards pokes his head in. He looks at me up and down, finally grunting out approval. He opens the door wide and lets us out. The girl goes out first with me following her.

She guides me through corridors and doorways, that I don't bother memorizing the way. We enter in a big room and we stop. I bump into the girl and fall down. Now it was my turn to glare at her. "What the hell?"

"Shut up!" I glower at her while standing, but stop talking. She turns to me and puts her hands on her hips. "Ok, this what we are going to do. There are professional assassins out there, assassins that will kill you without a thought. We will walk to the end of the room to that door "- she points to a brown door with a silver lock "-while you will look down on the floor and not focus on anybody. Understood?"

As soon as I nod, the brown-haired girl pushes me out of the corridor and drags me to the other side of the room, to the brown door. People stop and stare at us as we stroll down to the other side of the room, to get to the brown door. The two bodyguards cake me in the middle of them, with the mysterious girl guiding us to the door.

Me, making sure, for the first time, to keep my head down because I instantly knew not to mess with the other assassins.

"Whoa. Whoa. Hold it for one moment." A blonde steps in front of her, arms crossed across her chest, "Who's that?"

"You should know." Replies my escort.

"I actually don't know, and I should know, being in the council and whatnot." Shoots the blonde.

"That's why you should know, Amanda. It's that girl." She points at me then at her neck. Amanda looks her, confusion in her eyes. "I seriously don't know what you are talking about, Clair. Now, tell me who she is." So her names Clair, kind of suits her; you know with her brown hair and hazel eyes.

Clair sighs, "Look, Amanda, I don't know what knowledge you have or what you lack "-people start laugh but stop after a glare from Amanda "-but you have to go discuss it with Sire."

"Damn right I will." She pushes past Clair into the hallway we just arrived from. Without another word, Clair leads us the remaining distance to the brown door. With her hand on the doorknob, she opens the door and making me very unimpressed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A staircase?" I ask, seriously not impressed, "Is this what we went all this trouble." Still ignoring me, Clair climbs down the staircase. The bodyguards push me along with her, making me stumble down the stairs. Idiots. I run down the stairs to catch up to Clair with the bodyguards right behind me, making sure to keep me in their sights.

Down, down and down we go. My legs start burning but even if I slow down the bodyguards push me, making me fall on the floor. They did it enough times that my hands get covered in red with rocks piercing my skin. Great, I'm tired and bloody. Deciding to break the silence, I ask, "Are we there yet."

"Shut up!" comes the only reply. Why am I surprised? It's the only answer Clair gave me for the past five hours. A dull orange glow lights up the exit as I sigh in relief. Finally! We emerge into a room made up of black stone that was lit by torches. The whole wall covered with silver doors or bars. Suddenly, I collapse onto the ground; more stones insert themselves into my skin. I look up and glare at the bodyguards.

Can they ever not push me? Hands grab my arms and pull me up. They start marching again but this time dragging me behind them. I try to struggle against them but their nails dig deeper into my skin. I instantly stop moving, not wanting more blood to drain.

Clair stops in front of a silver gate, smirking when she saw me on the ground. "Here we are>" she announces. The guards drop my arms and I purge onto the floor. "Really?" I shout, "You just had to do that."

"Enough!" comes a voice, "Bring her inside." I quickly get up and follow Clair into the room. Same as the last room, this area was also lit by torches. Two wooden posts were inserted into the ground with a silver chain hanging from the top. The really creeping were the shelves lining the walls filled with devices. There were whips, cranes, knifes and other instruments. Whips and cranes of every size and every of material even some whips had with silver and gold tips. Knifes big and small, some curved and some even that looked that surgeon tools. Realisation slams itself into my head: I'm in a dungeon.

I back away slowly to the door and try to open it but find it locked. "You are not going anywhere." Sire walks in front of me and holds up a black piece of clothe. "Go to the back and you will find a curtain. Change there. The straps go behind your neck and your waist. " I tentatively take the black cloth and walk to the back wall, avoiding the whips. An ugly curtain comes in sight and I open to see a bed made up of hay.

I close the curtain and open the piece of cloth. One side was made up of a soft black material while the other side was bare with two straps hanging from the top and the bottom. Those must be the straps that Sire mentioned. I take off my shirt and put the cloth on, making to sure that my front was covered and strapping the straps behind my neck and waist, leaving my back bare. I walk out and stand in front of Sire, "Why do I have to wear this."

"Tie her down." Hands grab my arms and pull me in behind the wooden post. A kick on the knees makes me fall down on the floor. A shock vibrates in the knees as the bodyguards tie my hands to the silver chains. "W-what's going o-on?"

Sire comes in front of me and bends to my eyes level. "Consider this your first lesson." He stands up and goes out of my sight. Suddenly a crack vibrates along the dungeon, making a chill ride its way up my spine. Footsteps make their way behind and I hold my breath. This is it. The air slices and I scream.

Mystery POV:

"Sir. They started her training." She bends over, huffing gasping for breath.

"What do you mean they started her training? They weren't supposed to start her training for at least another two months."

"I just saw them escort her to the dungeon."

"Ugh!" I smash my hand on the table, making the whole room shake. Suddenly a smirk appears on my face as I formula a plan. "Let them train her."

"Huh?"

"You won't interfere in her training like we originally planned, but instead you will help train her. Help her train to become the best."

"Why?"

"Because, after she joins us then we won't have to put in the effect. After all she is the shadow mistress." The girl leaves the room, but the smirk doesn't. "Akatsuki, look at what you have done. You have made my life so much easier."
