Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

Graphic violence warning!!!

I don't know how long it's been; all I know is that it's been dark. I don't know when they come or go, but I know is that they don't want me to die. After every session, a healer comes in to seal my wounds but the strange thing is that the same healer doesn't come twice. I guess they don't want me to earn their trust so that I could get a message out. I don't think I could even if I wanted too. Every time my throat gets sore from all the screaming I do.

Lights spill into the dungeon as the door opens. Footsteps come closer and closer but then they get farther away. I try to strain my neck to look behind me, but am unsuccessful. More footsteps explode in my hearing but this time they come from above. I look up and see a flood of people looking down on me like I'm some kind of animal they want to devour.

"Welcome everybody!" Akatsuki walks in front of me, "I guess you're wondering who this is?" Murmurs of agreement erupt from the group. "I won't tell you her name, because I don't want too. But I will tell you this; if she cooperates then soon she will become one of you. The original plan was to introduce her to you all as a surprise but because of some problems, that plan has been thrown out of the water. Now, you all are gathered her to encourage her to become an assassin; to become one of you."

I got the sense that the real reason they are here so that I get 3humiliated. Akatsuki continues on speaking, "...don't want anybody to laugh at her. We are here to teach her and make her grow into an assassin. Now, let us get started." All eyes pierce into me as if waiting for me to explode.

A familiar crackling sound fills the dungeon and I whimper, bracing myself for the attack. As the air slices, my back explodes, producing an ear-piercing scream from me. Over and over again, the whip carves into my skin, making blood pour out. I am pretty sure they could see my bone.

Laughter detonates in the dungeon as tears pour down my face. How dare they laugh at me? Can't they see how much I'm suffering? After that thought, a familiar face comes in front of me.

"Oh boo oh, little werewolf not liking our teasing." More laughter fills the dungeon as Amanda smirks, "You feeling humiliated, well you should. This is the most entertainment we've had for weeks. I really hope this continues."

Tears gather in my eyes but I restrain myself from releasing them. I bet I look pathetic from up there crying from a little whipping. Oh, you do. What the hell? I look around and just notice the whipping stopped. I catch Akatsuki's eyes. Is this what you want to be remembered as? Do you really want to spend the rest of your life in this dungeon, being whipped until we get rid of you? I brought you here, Raylana because I know you have potential. My aim is to make you the greatest assassin there has ever been. Now, my answer to you is this: do you want to be one?

Do you want to be one? ; The question that has been floating around my brain ever since. After the conversation, everybody left me to my own thoughts. A bit later, the healers came and left.

When night fell, the bodyguards came and untied me, lending me a blanket and letting me sleep on the hay I spotted a while back. Right now I am lying down, my thoughts racing, but only one question sticking out; should I or should I not?

Just like always, I weigh the pros and cons. Pros; I won't have to be in this dungeon anymore getting whipped. Cons; I will have to kill people. Pros; I get finally forget my past and start a new life. Cons; I will have to kill people. Pros; I get make some friends that won't judge me. Cons; I will have to kill people. Pros; I will have a chance to get married and make a family. Cons; I will have to kill people. Why is this decision so hard? The pros and cons all make a stand one by one as I drift into unconsciousness.

I wake up the next morning with my mind made. I know what I am going to do now. I exit the small room and see Akatsuki already there. "Ah, good you're awake." He leans on one of the posts with a tablet in his hands,

"Did you have time to consider my proposal?" I nod, my eyes on the tablet. If we are in the past the how does technology work here?

Akatsuki chuckles, "You'll find out soon enough." He sets down the tablet on one of the tables and grabs one of the whips. "Good, you know what to do." With confidence, I walk towards the posts, no longer scared. I bend down on my knees and raise my arms, waiting for them to be tied.

As soon as the familiar rope cuts into my skin, the recognisable pain spreads through my back. I restrain from screaming, biting my lip in the process. A metallic taste pricks my tongue as blood flows down my back.

Fifth hit, sixth hit, seventh hit, eighth hit, ninth hit. On the tenth hit, a scream erupts from my throat. Suddenly, the whipping stops but the pain doesn't. "Open your eyes, Raylana." Slowly I open my eyes and come face-to-face with Akatsuki. "Tomorrow, we will see if you can hold in your scream until fifteen whips." He leaves me lying on the floor, bleeding.
