Chereads / The Brightest One In My Life! / Chapter 20 - Scolding Brats

Chapter 20 - Scolding Brats

Her mother wasn't a great person after giving birth to her siblings and herself. She was busy with work and becoming famous.

It was an obsession. And it terrified her to the bone.

She did her best for the family and spent most of her time outside taking care of affairs in both the business world and studies.

Slowly by slowly her work paid off. But the endless trouble that came with it didn't just disappear. Honestly she was tired. So very tired that she could feel her body slowly withering away from fatigue.

But she remembers all the encouragement form the people around her and her duty as an older sibling. She wanted to be strong. So strong that even if she past away she will still make sure her family is safe.

That was her, Katelyn Evertine.

Nathan looked at Katelyn who had a small smile on her face. That look was saying that even if anyone criticized her or looked down on her, she wouldn't be affected.

She was indeed a strong woman.

His hand reached out to touch her cheeks and held it gently in his palms. The action made her look at him and he gave a soft smile.

He didn't say anything but Katelyn suddenly felt like crying.

"Everyone would look at me pitifully... ye- yet.. you why do you look so proud?"

Nathan sighed and pulled her head into his embrace.

"First of all, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for making you share such painful memories. Second, I apologize to the you who missed what a complete family should be like. Third I apologize for making you think that I would look at you differently. Katelyn you're a strong woman. And not many people can admit and share deep pains they feel in their hearts. No matter how people say about you, I will stand by your side."

Forever.

"The world has many sufferings and to actually let you suffer as well... how unfair..." he stroked her hair softly.

'How unfair of the world. To let you suffer from both a terrible mother and also be affected by a poison that will take you away from me. But I will do everything in my power to save you.'

"Katelyn... don't worry. You have me now and I won't let you suffer anymore than you have. Trust me." He promised her.

But also made a promise to himself. Finding the people behind her death and also why she was poisoned.

Katelyn felt her heart get a bit warm and held onto his coat while her tears wet his dress shirt. Was it words like these, that made her fell this way? Or was it because this man apologized and earnestly told her his feelings about her.

Either way she felt happy. Happy that someone other than her friends know this story.

Nathan pulled away and touched Katelyn's cheeks wiping away the tears that fell. His heart softened and gently placed a small kiss on her forehead.

Their dating stage had been jumping a lot, but not to the point that they could kiss each other without reserve. He still needed to be a bit more patient with her.

If he scared his wife away, what should he do then? He simply endured and made sure she was happy, so he could make it up to her.

Katelyn felt her face turn red as she looked at him with shock. Her fair face had really turned red that Nathan really wanted to take a bite.

'Endure!!!' He scolded himself. He unwilling let go and pulled her seatbelt to put it on.

They both drove away from the place and the day ended with him dropping her off at her home while he headed towards Matthew's bar.

Their was somethings he need to clear up and find out.

Lavi looked at the man and sighed for the nth time. She really didn't like scolding people but today she won't hold back.

"Your saying that he took your gun and somehow manage to get a hostage, under you watch? Explain to me, EXACTLY how it happened?"

The 5 soldiers gulped seeing her strict expression. They were called here by Lavi and knew that they wouldn't escape punishment. He couldn't stop the trembling fear from her gaze.

"Sigh. You guys were lucky. If your other two teammates didn't subdue him then we would have lost not only a solider but also a lead that could affected our hard work that we done for he pats months. Good Job, Liam and Jeffery. But you three, reflect on today's actions and make sure you don't repeat it. 200 hundred pushups and squats by the end of the day! Go!!"

"Yes Ma'am!!" The three left and now only Liam and Jeffery remained.

"You two." Her eyes narrowed and they gulped. "Reckless!!" She sharply hissed.

They boys felt cold sweat on their backs. But they couldn't say a word.

"Not only did you try going head to head with the criminal you also used such tactics that could endanger yourselves!! Tell me, what did you do today? Start from the beginning! Jeffery then Liam!"

Lavi was going to let them off so easily and the two boys clearly looked like bullied puppies now.

Adan looked at this scene with much amusement. He had casually walked around the military complex because he was bored (main reason was he was hiding from his attendant so he couldn't meet his grandfather) but who knew such an amusing scene had fell before him.

It was just a shame that her back was turned towards him, as she scolded the two boys. He waved at the two boys and did a thumbs.

'Good luck with the demoness'

"Now then before you start. Tell me person at the door, how much fun you are having eavesdropping?" She said without turning her back.

She wasn't stupid, the boys kept on looking behind her and it made her a bit mad. She was barely containing it.

Adan face was neutral as he calmly walked towards the group. "Sergeant, are you sure you should continue bullying them?"

Lavi eyes shot open as she turned to the voice and greeted him with a salute, "Major Sanders. Since when did you get here? I thought you were still away? And I'm not bullying them, it just a light scolding on how they should value their lives."

Adan looked at two boys and then back to her. His eyes were as if saying, 'that was a light scolding?'.

Lavi tried hard to not roll her eyes at him and smartly thought of a way to push him out. "Major, since you just came back then you might as well see General Sanders. He said he's been missing you a lot."

Adan felt his eye twitched here the sweet but mocking tone in her voice. Of course she was referring to his grandfather that made him come here.

"Oh? Since when do you know my affairs?" As asked jokingly.

"Please, I don't care about anyone's affairs, accept my own. General accidentally caught me and complained to me about his 'grandson'. Now please excuse me. I have two brats to scold." She turned away and faced the two 'brats'.

Adan was successfully ignored.
