Chapter 1 - Random Chapter I

Oneliner: "A drunk idiot coming up"

Genre: Modern Fantasy

After the peace treaty between demi-humans and humans, everything seemed to get well, however it did not. It has been 20 years since the treaty was signed and yet the malice against demi-humans did not fade much. Today was its annual celebration day, implying that the city wasn't the safest place with all the people getting drunk.

We follow Beatrice, a female Satyr. Beatrice was walking casually to the Archdemon Bridge Beatrice hated this day, simply because there are too many dangerous people in the streets. She was always fond of humans, and very much would like to be a normal person too. It was all quiet on the bridge and not much used at night. Beatrice was casually leaning on the railing, stargazing.

Steps... Beatrice looked alarmed for the origin of the sound, locating a drunk person lurching and fussing over the Archdemon bridge. 'One drunk idiot coming up' Beatrice thought as a bitter and sympathetic smirk formed on her lips. The number of people getting drunk has significantly grown, all to Beatrice's dismay. "The hell you lookin' at, Goaty." the man snarled, yet as he is unable to stand straight Beatrice doesn't feel intimidated. "I-I've had enough of -hic- stupid idiots l-like you stupid monster, so -hic- y-you better screw off. S-Stupid -hic- Goat." As the man finished his sentence he was close toppling over. Seeing an unresponsive Beatrice the man got furious, but before even advancing one more step he passed out.

There it was the intolerance against all kinds of demi-humans. Beatrice detested being born as one, so much that she had suicidal feelings every single day. Solely her frail mom kept her alive. Beatrice leaned back on the railing and continued stargazing. "It's a nice night, isn't it?" This time Beatrice jumped as the unexpected note scared her. "What the-? Dude, you scared me shitless."

"Pardon me, miss. I simply saw you and couldn't resist. But where are my manners? My name is Kai Hunter."

On closer examination, Beatrice noticed a rather bony and thin lizard tail hanging down from Kai's waist. "You're a lizard man? Didn't they go extinct?" Kai chuckled and gently replies: "Yes, quite indeed miss. My least is left of what was once." Beatrice was shell-shocked, she couldn't start to imagine what it must feel like to be the only one of her kind "I'm sorry mister-"

"Kai... my father was Mister Hunter. I'm simply Kai. However, don't worry all too much about me I've been alone since I was born. I'm used to it."

Beatrice couldn't help but think of her deceased father, and her mother may follow his lead. Tears formed in her eyes. "It's terrifying, isn't it? Losing all your companions and family members. It's the most grievous experience, one should never have to make. But even then, I beg of you never give up."

Beatrice abruptly woke up in a hospital bed. She was looking around surprised, wondering how she ended up here. "Miss Slane?" Beatrice perked up slightly in the direction she was called from. "Good Morning Ms. Slane. You are in the Archangel Memorial Hospital." a nurse politely greets.

"What happened?"

"It seems someone found you unconscious on the bridge."

Beatrice was puzzled "What about the other drunk guy?" The nurse smiled and answered: "He is already stationed and tended to. You won't need to trouble yourself." Beatrice sighed relieved "And what about Kai?" The nurse was confused yet asked: "Kai? Kai who?"

Beatrice started to get annoyed "Kai Hunter" Alone the mentioning of this name visibly shocked nurse "My apologies... He passed away 5 years ago."

Now Beatrice was fully annoyed "That's impossible. I've been just talking to him." Before the nurse could respond Beatrice noticed she was in the bed, where her mom originally. "Wait.. w-what happened to Mom?" The nurse was now looking remarkably depressed "My deepest condolences, your Mother passed away as soon as you entered the hospital"

Beatrice felt numb, so numb she couldn't hear anything any longer. Nothing but two sentences: My condolences! Don't give up!
