Chapter 2 - Random Chapter II

Oneliner: "One by one we will eat them all"

Genre: Horror

John was running down the corridor, unknowingly where to go. Eventually, he found an open door. He burst through the door, to see himself falling down some stairs breaking his leg in the process. It was pitch black except the little lightbulb illuminating what seemed to be puddles of blood, a cement floor, and walls. The basement. As he desperately tried to stand up he saw the bone looking out of his leg. He cried out in pain, but all of a sudden stopped. An ominous silence returned to the mansion, with neither birds nor insects to be heard.

"Like I've been saying, this mansion is supposedly haunted and I want to know why and from what." Cathrine proudly pronounces to Ben. Ben, her childhood friend was intrigued by her determination. "It's rare seeing you turning up the heat for something so small." Cathrine pushed Ben forward "Don't be stupid. This could be the headline of the newspaper: 'The Secret of the Miller Mansion solved'. Ooooh, I can't wait to see that." A fire burned in her eyes, one only reporters could understand. Ben gave up and simply chuckled as they proceeded towards the Miller Mansion.

As they arrived Cathrine stated: "Can you hear that?" Ben was confused "What do you mean? I can't hear anything."

"Yes, that's the point. It's a warm summer noon, right? In that case, we should hear insects or maybe even birds. However, it's like there isn't even a small breeze here." They both stood still for a few minutes listening to the nacked silence. "You really wanna do this? The mansion looks huge." Cathrine answered by trying to open the door. "It's locked" She started looking for an open window or a key until she got startled of a loud crack. "Milady" Ben stood next to the broken door sarcastically bowing and signaling her to enter. "I knew I could count on you musclehead to break something."

"You're welcome Cathy", Ben laughed.

They both entered the building, which was said to be abandoned for 20 years now but the interior doesn't look the part. "Okay, let's split up. You'll search for something interesting upstairs and I'll look around here, okay?"

"Gotcha, let's meet here in 2 hours." With that being said they both start wandering around to gather information. Cathrine entered a room much like a library. "Look at all this. Original versions of Friedrich Schiller's books. In pristine condition... but how?" Cathrine started reading a few pages before a spine chilling cry was heard throughout the mansion tearing Cathrine away from her trance-like state. "BEN!!!" She dropped the book and started sprinting for the door.

As she ran through the door she noticed it didn't lead to the main hall as it did before. Now it led to a long and dark hallway. "What the hell?" Cathrine started walking down the hallway calling out for Ben regularly. 'Succumb' This word was whispered into her mind by countless voices at once. "Who is there?" Cathrine shouted through the darkness. Silence. "SUCCUMB" This time it was ear-deafening loud and from a voice, she knew all too well. "Ben? Stop playing around and come out." Nothing happened. Cathrine started walking down the corridor again, as she noticed footsteps behind her. She quickly spins around, just to see a threatening darkness approach.

One simple sentence written with blood flashed in front of her eyes followed by Ben's voice, but now his voice didn't sound human anymore. "One by one, we will eat them all!" "B-Ben... S-Stop it... this isn't funny anymore..." The darkness only responded by stopping for a second and repeating: "One by one, we will eat them all!" Cathrine spun around quickly and started sprinting down the hallway which never seemed to end. Eventually, she reached an open door and sprinted down a staircase to find herself in the basement. The air was thick and smelled like rotten eggs. The further she ran into the basement corridors the stronger the smell became.

At the end of the corridor, she found a machine, at this point she was already frantically coughing. She realized the machine was emitting a faintly yellow gas and started fumbling with it until it stopped. Cathrine, however, started coughing harder, getting cramps, and finally stopped breathing.

"One by one, we will eat them all!" A horrifyingly distorted Ben stepped out of the darkness which never ceased to follow Cathrine and started to laugh psychotically "Don't say I didn't try to stop ya" With these words, he started the machine back up grabbed Cathrine by the legs and dragged her off into the darkness
