Granger broke their promise and left her to become a demon hunter. He didn't had a choice. He wasn't Gusion Paxley after all, he was just an underaged servant.
Everyone has goals and aspirations in life and Granger wanted to make them all come true. Being a demon hunter has always been his goal and aspiration. It came before Guinevere even came into his life.
It was dark by the time Granger had waken up from a deep slumber. He overslept. Alucard must be looking all over town for him, but having five or more drinks and a steamy chat with the bartender it was less likely. Being the sober one, Granger would perhaps be the one to look for his senior partner.
After putting back on his coat, the Death Chanter left. He looked for Alucard in the tavern first. But he wasn't there, though, the female bartender was. She told Granger she didn't know where he went, he just left all drunk and was even singing.
As Granger walked down the now godforsaken roads of dirt, his mind goes into stealth mode upon hearing a moan from behind. In supersonic speed, a demon lunges for him. He was able to dodge but because of the unexpected attack, he stumbled on the ground.
The tall and thin silhouette becomes at ease from a stance. Its eyes glow red and with the help of a nearby lantern, Granger was able to see the massive and spiky blood-smeared teeth it had in its mouth.
"What are you doing in my feeding grounds, demon hunter?" The voice it possessed was like the sound of faraway thunder; a low rumbling bass.
Granger summoned his pistol and pointed it fearlessly to the demon's head. "I'm here for you obviously."
"So you're the Death Chanter, Granger." The demon laughed uproariously. Granger tensed up. How did this monster knew he was the Death Chanter?
Granger remained ready to pull the trigger. "How did you know who I am?"
"You're famous in the Southern Mountains. Your targets that were able to get away from you scattered your image and every demon has now know who and what you look like, Granger. Every demon is coming for you, including I!"
"There's a reason why all of you are demons." Said the Death Chanter in a monotone. "And there's also a reason why I want to kill every one of you too."
The demon's glowing blood red eyes narrowed as his gritted his teeth in rage. "I will avenge my brothers! Argh!" The demon glowed red until it transformed into a big ball of fire. Granger had nothing to do against it, and so he made a run for. He fired a few bullets but it seemed it was only absorbing all of it.
When the rolling ball of fire was closing their distance and Granger was feeling its warmth getting higher, he decided to change direction and go through a small gap between two cottages. The fire demon returns to its original form and remained on the Death Chanter's tail.
He's getting annoying, he thought. Grabbing the opportunity to attack, Granger began firing painful blows of bullets without taking a halt on his run. The demon screamed in pain just as Granger expected and it was music to his ears.
Ending the demon's life with a play of his infamous agonizing melody, he watched as the fire demon went back to being a dark silhouette as it howled in pain.
"Have mercy, please!" The demon begged.
Granger doesn't say a thing. He just watches him as he continues to suffer until he decided to end the monster's life with a single shot. It echoed throughout the clearing and Granger could feel the tension becoming thin.
"That was quick. You should've made him suffer more."
Granger jumped and instinctively spun around only to face Alucard. "Where have you been?" He asked the blonde hero, infuriated.
"Doesn't matter. Let's get out of this place, shall we?"
"Whatever." Granger muttered.
"Look, kid," said Alucard. "I know this mission's kind of taking long and I know we're not getting alone well I didn't expect, but you should remember this mission would've ended hours ago had you admitted to Miss Violet you were the Death Chanter. I mean, what are you you so afraid of? Do you have social anxiety or something?"
It was because Granger was afraid what Guinevere would think about him as the Death Chanter. She would be afraid of him, surely, of how he's changed. He wasn't the same boy she met anymore. He was now a ruthless demon killer.
"He doesn't know how much I missed him..." The crying face of Guinevere has been haunting his mind. Alucard is right. He shouldn't be so humble about his glorious title. He should show who the Death Chanter is to the whole Moniyan Empire.
The demons have found out anyways, which is very dangerous for a solo demon hunter like him. Granger never had friends, not even allies. He was completely alone that he'd be vulnerable if a squad of demons would appear from nowhere and attacks him.
That must be the most accurate reason why the Grandmaster has partnered him up with Alucard. Not to give him a friend, but to make sure he doesn't get killed by an ambush of powerful demons now that he's been exposed.
Knowing this as a fact, Granger has never been scared for his life, especially if he's heading back to the Southern Mountains where all of the demons are probably teaming up to slaughter him once he's arrived. As scared as he was for himself though, he wanted—needed to bring back Guinevere.
He wouldn't forgive himself if he loses her again, permanently this time. It was after all his fault why she was heading there. How stupid he was. Sarcastically speaking, Granger had fed her to the demons. Such a fool's move.
"I contacted the other Hunters who might be able to help us." Alucard informed as they were now leaving the town and went back into the Main Trail, a road heading straight to the Mountains which only demon hunters could have the audacity to step on. "Some who're already in the Mountains said they've already made a search party for her. Though we can still get to her before she could get to the Mountains if we don't keep wasting time."
He said it as though it's Granger's fault. Granger sighed for the second time tonight and remained his cool.

Guinevere looks around the Celestial Palace. It was her first time of being here. She read stories about this place even when she was a child. The stories always describe the Palace as 'out of this world' and intriguing. And it was.
The atmosphere was thin, depicting she was the only one around.
Looking down at her map, she still had a few places to go before she could get to the Mountains and meet her childfood friend, the Death Chanter. She was now wearing the bow that was returned to her at the party and everytime she would look at her reflection she could see the girl she used to be, her real self. It only took her now to realize she has finally become her true self when she left the Baroque castle.
May the Gods forgive that place.
