Chapter 7 - Cabin in The Woods

Everyone was staring at me, a mixture of fear and confusion slashed in their eyes. "What does that mean?" I asked, the evil anger was almost gone. The man turned to my parents. "How could you bring him here?!" My father looked at the man with anger. "Don't you dare raise your voice at my wife." My mother ran up to me. "Are you okay?" She placed her hand softly on my cheek. "I'm fine. What is he talking about?" All of us looked to the man. "Aggression. It's one of the strongest abilities." Gram put her hands on her hips. "Isn't that good?" She asked. The man shook his head. "With such power comes great risk. The stronger the ability, the easier it is to succumb to the evil with it." My eyes widened. "Evil? What evil?" Everyone looked at me with fear now. "The evil that comes with so much power. If you can't control it, it'll begin to control everything you do." I felt numb. "He can learn to control it, can't he?" My father asked urgently. "It requires someone who is strong willed." My mother held onto my hand. "He has that right?" Her voice sounded like it was going to give way. "That is something I am unable to see, he has to show it himself." Everyone looked at me. My whole body felt numb, I couldn't move, couldn't speak. "What'll happen if he can't control it?" Addy asked. The man was silent for too long. "He'll be dangerous. He could go into a blind rage, possibly even hurt others. Him knowing this location is too risky." My mother hugged me, a tear ran down her cheek. "He has to be able to learn!" My dad shouted. "He can, but the amount of time he will need is to much. It's a risk we can't take nor afford." It felt like a dagger was carving my heart. Seeing my father desperate for an answer, my gram scared, Addy shocked, and my mother sad. It all cane crashing into me, everything was frozen for a second. All of them wanted answers just like me, they wanted to know how to help me. I needed to be here for them, and most importantly for myself. "I'll do it." Everyone looked at me. I looked at the man. "I'll work hard, I'll do everything I can to understand and control this." I broke free of my mother's grasp and stood up. "No matter what it takes, no matter what I have to do, what pain I may experience. I'll see this to the very end." Everyone was shocked, I felt determined. The man regained his composure. "You can't live in the town." I quickly responded. "Fine by me." The man was shocked, he must've expected me to back down. "Isn't there an old cabin in the woods?" Addy asked. "Yes, there is. You can stay there." The man said. I nodded. "Is there enough room for us?" My mother asked as she stood up. "I'm staying in the cabin alone." I said. My mom turned around with wide eyes. "Absolutely not!" I grabbed her hand and smiled warmly at her. "I'm the one who needs to learn. You all deserve to stay in the town, I'll be perfectly fine." She opened her mouth to protest, but she knew I wasn't going to budge. "Then it's settled, I'll have someone escort you there." The man said. He lead everyone else out of the house, I had to stay behind. I waited for what felt like an eternity. Finally an older man in metal armor moved the beads out of the doorway. "So you're the aggression kid?" His voice was raspy, he sounded irritated. "Yes sir." I said. He scoffed. "You ain't nothing but a boy. C'mon, this way." I followed him out of the house and down the road, I couldn't help but notice people giving me dirty looks. "Why's everyone looking at me?" I asked, he chuckled. "Word gets around fast. Everyone knows now that you're a freak." I looked towards the armored man with a hint of anger. We walked into the thick woods, for an hour we walked in silence. Eventually we an old run down cabin cane into view. "Here we are, your new home." I looked at it with disgust, but kept my mouth shut. The armored man hit my back hard. "See you in the morning brat." He turned and walked back towards the town. I groaned and moved my arm. "That's gonna leave a bruise." I muttered. I approached the cabin, the smell of mildew and rotting bark was strong. I pushed the door open, the inside was dark. A single window was above the very strangely colored bed. A bookshelf was opposite to the bed, and a rotting wooden desk sat against the wall in front of me. I closed the front door and approached the bed, the wooden planks freaked and groaned from my weight. "Maybe I can fix this place up." I said out loud. I sat down on the bed, it squeaked loudly. I slowly laid down on my back and looked up at the ceiling. The sound of birds chirping made me smile. Being out in the middle of the woods wasn't too bad. Then I remembered my nightmare. The image of its red eye sent shivers down my spine. I looked down at my right hand, the one that had been glowing a dark red. I could still remember the burning feeling. Why? That was the one word that kept coming back. Why? Why was the color a dark red? Does the resemble aggression? Why did I feel burning? Why did it feel evil. All these questions circled around my head, none had any answers. I dropped my hand down onto the bed. Everything was going in a terrible direction. The whole town knew, they looked at me like I was a beast walking down the street. I sighed. I'd just have to show them I'm good, just because this ability might not be the best doesn't mean I'm letting it put a label on me. I smiled, I was gonna show everyone that I won't back down, that I'll never give up. I turned to the side and closed my eyes, as I drifted off into sleep I tried to stay positive. But what I wasn't ready for was the nightmare that waited in the dark. Waited with it's jaws open and ready to eat me alive. Waiting, and watching through the thick, dark forest.
