The town was ablaze. I was standing there watching the buildings burn to ash. There was nobody around, they had all left. I could hear it. I looked behind me, it was hidden behind the trees. But it's bright red eye was impossible to hide. "Why?" I asked. A distorted chuckle shook the forest. I could feel eyes looking at me from every direction. "Answer me dammit!" Suddenly a dark red sword appeared in my hand. It's color matched the glow that had surround my hand when I was with Addy. The eye I stared into rose. It kept rising and rising and when it finally stopped, it looked down at me. I clutched onto my sword, rage ran through me. Suddenly thousands of inky black tentacles shot towards me. At lightning speed I swung my sword, cutting and chopping every tentacle. I jumped from side to side and dodged around quickly. But I wasn't fast enough, a tentacle struck me in the stomach. I was launched backwards and landed on the ground hard. My head was pounding, blood covered my eyes. Suddenly I could feel something wrapping tightly around my neck and lift me high into the air, I gasped for air. "It's your fault." It's voice was a mixture of human and beast. It was as distorted as it's laugh. "You're to blame for this!" It shouted at me. My head felt like it was going to pop off my shoulders, my body began going numb. "You are the reason people will die." I tried one last time to gasp for air, what was wrapped around my neck released me. I fell to the ground fast, face first I hit the ground. I felt broken, but I forced myself onto my knees. "We'll meet very soon, Jacob." Then it killed me. It's tentacles pierced my chest, I tried to scream. But only blood escaped from my lips. I fell to the side, darkness surrounded me. I felt alone, and cold. Even with the flames around me, a chill ran through my entire body. I took one final gasp for air as my eyesight began to blur. Then suddenly my eyes shot open, sweat was dripping down my body and my throat felt raw. "Jacob!" I looked to the side, Addy was looking down at me with a relived smile. I looked down at my body, I was tied to the bed. "Why am I tied to the bed?" My voice was uneven and barely audible. "You were out of control, I had to tie you down or you would've hurt yourself or someone." The General was here. Then I noticed everyone, mom, dad, gram, they all looked so worried. "What do you mean?" I asked. "I came to check on you, then I heard screaming. I ran and got everyone as quick as I could. The General came in first and wouldn't let us enter." Addy explained. "He was glowing." I looked over at the General. "What?" I asked. "Your body, it was glowing a dark red. In between your screams, I could hear growling." I pulled at the rope. The General quickly walked over and cut me free. I sat up and rubbed my neck. "Is there water?" I asked. Mom handed me a bucket filled with water, I gulped all of it down. It helped a little. "I had a nightmare." I finally said after a moment of silence. "A nightmare? What are you five?" The General scolded me. I shook my head. "It was different than a normal nightmare. The town, it was burning and there was this creature in the woods. It's the same one I've seen over and over, but I only see one eye. One bright red eye. It was hidden behind trees, I was angry. I somehow made a sword, it was dark red like my ability. Suddenly I was fighting and dodging thousands of tentacles. But I wasn't good enough, I was hit back. I tried getting up, and it killed me." My voice wavered. Mom sat next to me and hugged me. "You mentioned having a nightmare back at the hotel. Is it the same one?" My father asked. I shook my head. "Different scenario, same creature." He nodded. We all sat in silence. "What now?" I asked, looking towards the General. He sighed. "I hate to say this, but you need to take the next couple of days off. Try and cool down a little. After that we'll take a look at your ability again, see if anything has changed." I nodded. It felt like I was giving up, and I hated it. Mom rubbed her hand on my back softly. "This is for your safety." She knew I hated giving up on something. Even if it was something so small, I would see it till the end. "I know, but what if it meant something?" I asked. "What if the nightmare is warning me?" The General shook his head. "Whatever it is you're seeing in these nightmares of yours, it doesn't sound real. Plus it's been a long time since a Melting Shadow has entered the area." I scratched the back of my neck. Finally I sighed. "Ya, you're probably right." I looked down at the ground. "I have an idea." I looked up at dad. "How about you and I fix this place up, it'll help clear your mind!" I smiled softly. "Did you completely ignore the part I said about him taking a break?" The General snapped. "I wouldn't be using my ability, and the nightmares got worse when I started using it." The General scoffed. "Fine, whatever." I smiled towards dad. "We can get started today if you like?" He asked. "The sooner the better!" We all excited the cabin, the General, mom, and dad went back towards town. Gram and Addy stayed behind. "Are you sure you're feeling alright?" Addy asked me. I smiled. "I'm fine, promise. Fixing the cabin will cheer me up." Gram clicked her tongue. "That father of yours, he raised you to be a hard worker. It's one of the few things I actually approve he did." I chuckled. "Wow, really?!" I said sarcastically. They both laughed. "We'll head back to town so you and your father can get tow work." Gram said. I waved bye to them as they disappeared behind the trees. After a few minutes dad emerged from the trees with two large tool boxes in each hand. "This is gonna need a lot of work." I smiled. "Then that means we can make it look so much better in the end." He placed the tool boxes down and patted me on the back. "Then let's get started." For the rest of the day we took measurements and drew blueprints of the cabin. We calculated how much wood we would need, and what places need to be completely torn down. By the time the sun had perfected all the calculations. "You wanna sleep in the hotel tonight?" He asked me. I shook my head. "Nah, I'll spend the night here." He nodded his head. "Night." I waved goodbye to him. I entered the cabin and laid down on the bed. I couldn't go to sleep, no matter if I wanted to or not I couldn't force my eyes to shut. So I laid there, staring at the rotting wooden ceiling until the sun rose again.
