The town was a blaze. Fire had erupted through the streets. The General and I ran up to a soldier. "What the hell happened here?!" The General yelled. The soldier looked terrified, his body was shaking violently. "There was something, it wasn't like anything we've ever seen before." The General and I looked at each other, whatever he saw scared him half to death. "Where is everyone else?" I asked. "Most ran away, but those who stayed to fight. They're gone." His head lowered, tears began to fall. "Everyone. All my friends, gone." His voice began to shake. "Pull yourself together! Find where the survivors went and go protect them." The soldier didn't move, instead he fell to the ground, he leaned rested his head on his knees. I could see the General getting angry. "Go find everyone, find my family and make sure their safe." He studied me then shook his head. "Watch yourself." He said as he sprinted off. I crouched down. "Who did you lose?" I asked. "My friends, and my fiancé. All of them, are gone." I looked down at the ground. "You've lost people who meant a lot to you. But how is you sitting here going to help?" He looked up at me. "Help what? Their gone." I stood up, he looked up at me. "Just because you lost people you loved doesn't mean you can't help! There are families who need someone to protect them out there. You sitting here mourning isn't helping, it's causing more damage." I could see his hands grip onto his legs. "Whatever you saw that's terrified you this bad has already won if you stay here. Don't let it get away with the pain it's caused you." The soldier looked at me, there was something new in his eyes. He stood up and wiped his tears away. "Go, help those families." He nodded and sprinted off. I smiled, after a few seconds I ran off in the direction the General ran. There was no one around, everyone was long gone. I coughed and gagged from the taste of smoke. Then I heard it. That same laugh. My body went cold, I slowly turned my head. Hidden by the shadows of the forest stood a creature. I couldn't see it's face or it's body, but I could see it's eyes. Those bright red dangerous eyes. "Hello." It's voice wasn't of one thing. My body began to shake, my mouth hung open in fear. "What's wrong? Didn't think I was real?" My heart began to beat faster. My body was screaming at me to run, but I couldn't. The monsters head bowed, then it began to rise. It kept rising, and rising until it towered over me. I stumbled back, the creature laughed. "You act so brave, but you're really just a coward!" The town shook as the creature yelled. So many voices merged into one, I closed my eyes. Non of this could be real, maybe I was dreaming? It continued to laugh, the sound felt like acid to my ears. I covered my ears, but I could still hear it. "Shut up!" I yelled. It stopped. I opened my eyes and uncovered my ears. I looked up. "Boo." Suddenly thousands of inky tentacles came flying towards me. I dodged, jumped, and ducked as much as I could. Flashback of my dream began playing right in front of my very eyes. As fast as I was, I couldn't avoid all of them. One wrapped around my leg and pulled. I fell to the ground hard, the air leaving my lungs. "I suppose you know what happens next." The creature said. I tried to move, but inky vines held my arms and legs in place. The creature growled, I could feel the panic in me rise. I couldn't die now. Not when my family needed me most. I closed my eyes, trying to ignore my doom in front of me. I began taking deep shakes breaths, they calmed me very little. "How pathetic." The creature taunted. My eyes shot open. The creatures red eyes stared back, it began to open its mouth. I could hear it, it's jaw opened wider than it was meant to. The jaw bone cracked and shattered, I watched the darkness of the forest. Waiting. There was a moment of silence, of just the sound of crackling fire. Then out from the darkness something shot towards me, it was so fast I couldn't see what it was. I turned my head waiting for the pain of my flesh being pierced. But it never came. I slowly opened my eyes, in front of me stood the General. His shield shining a bright green. A large tooth lodged into his shield. "Get the hell up!" He yelled at me. Suddenly all my senses kicked in at once. I ripped free from the vines, each tear made a squealing sound as if the vines were alive. I stood up quickly. "Run!" We dashed off to the side. The beast let out a mighty roar, the dirt under my feet shook violently causing me to stumble and almost fall. The General caught my arm and pulled me to the side. "We'll meet again, Jacob!" The creature spoke my name, shivers ran through my entire body. The General and I ran, we ran like as fast as we could. Finally we stopped, my legs felt numb and ready to give out. My lungs felt bruised and beaten. "Where is everyone?" I could barely get the words out. "They're all safe, they fled to a nearby human town." I fell to my knees. "Oh thank god." I wheezed out. "Come on, we have to catch up to them." I nodded my head. I could barely stand, but I continued to run. We ran to the exit of the secret town. We walked through the fake trees, there was the road. "This way." The General pointes to the left. "Just a couple minutes of walking and we'll be there." I could only nod my head. We walked on the side of the road, every few seconds I'd look over my shoulder. Excepting those bright red eyes to be watching me. We walked farther and farther away. But my nerves never went away, every sound, every sign of movement. It all made me jump. It felt like a long time before we finally made it to the human town.
