Chapter 17 - Make up for your mistakes

My shoulder was being shaken violently. "Jacob! Jacob wake up!" I forced my eyes to open. Gram, the General and Addy looked at me with worry. "The hell happened to you?" The General asked. I tried pushing myself up, but I was too weak and fell back down. "I, I'm not sure." My voice was raspy and quiet. Gram kneeled down next to me and placed her cool hand on my cheek. "You're burning up. Come on, let's bring you to the bed." The General basically lifted me up and slung my arm over his shoulders. He slowly brought me over to the bed. I laid down on my back, my body was sore and fragile. "I'll go get him some water." Addy sprinted off towards the door, her voice seemed a little more quiet then normal. I closed my eyes and took deep breaths, sweat covered my entire body. "We should go get everyone and try to figure out what's happening to him." I could hear Gram say. "We can talk with the others, but he should be left to rest. Addy will be back soon." The General said. It felt like the room was spinning. I heard them walk away and the door open, I could hear them talk to someone but they were to far away to understand. Then the door shut. I could hear someone approaching the bed. They sat on the side of the bed. "You need to sit up to drink." Addy. I opened my eyes and forced myself into a sitting up position. In a blink of an eye Addy grabbed the collar of my shirt roughly. I groaned. "What the hell are you playing at?" She muttered at me, anger laced her voice. "What?" I barley got the word out. "You're led to the now burnt town by a tug feeling, find something and lie about it to my face. Now you're suddenly sick and weak?" Her eyes glared at me, I looked away. "You knew?" I asked. "Of course I knew! How much of an idiot do you think I am?!" She raised her voice. I closed my eyes tight, I just wanted a black hole to form and suck me in. "I don't know why I lied. I shouldn't have, but I didn't know if what I was doing was right." I coughed, my throat hurt like I had swallowed a tub of razors. I motioned to the water, Addy hesitated before giving the cup to me. I chugged the water down, it did little help. "You can make up for lying, tell me what you brought back and what it did?" Addy's voice was softer now, her grip on my collar loosened. I nodded my head. "I didn't know what it was at first. It was wrapped in some really worn cloth." Addy watched me with caution. "I saw that on the counter." I nodded, then continued. "It looked like a handle, one that belonged to a sword." Addy swallowed, her eyes gave me all kinds of emotions. None of which were good. "I used my ability and got my sword out, there was a skull on the handle. Both eyes held a different jewel, one was a ruby. It would glow brighter the closer I brought the two together. Then they merged. That's what shot me back into the tub, it was floating in mid air." I coughed again. Addy's eyes were wide, there was a lot of emotions there that even I couldn't see. "Is it still on your sword?" She asked with a shaky breath. I held my hand out over the side of the bed, my sword manifested in my hand. My fingers wrapped around the inky black handle I had just discussed. Addy gasped. "May I, see it closer?" She asked with caution. I held the sword sideways in between us. My left hand rested under the blade while my right rested under the handle. Addy leaned forward, she brought her hand up to touch the skull. Suddenly a little red light shot out of the ruby and hit her finger. She jumped up. "Ouch!" I quickly dispersed of the sword. "Are you okay?" I asked trying to stand, my legs threatened to give out. "I'm fine, just took me by surprise. What was that?" I shrugged. "I guess that was its protection strategy." I suggested. "I guess so. The other gem, do you know what it is?" I scratched the back of my neck. "I assumed diamond, at least that's what it looks like to me." Addy nodded. We stood there in silence for some time, neither one of us knew what to say. "I'll go down and tell everyone." Addy turned to leave, I ran and grabbed her arm. "No!" I shouted, a lot louder than needed. I quickly let go of her arm. "I'm sorry, but don't tell them. I still wanna figure this out." Addy gave me a questioning look. "Telling everyone might just give you information that you need." I shook my head. "Or another reason why I'm dangerous to be near anyone. I want to figure this out on my own, I have to." Addy opened her mouth to protest, but she could see it in my eyes. I wasn't budging. She sighed and lowered her head. "Alright, I won't spill. But the second this whole thing goes out of control it's your head, not mine." I nodded. Addy turned and left the room. I walked over and sat back down on the bed. I manifested my sword again, the skull looked back at me. I gripped the handle tighter. "What are you?" I asked. Silence answered me. I sighed and dispersed of the sword. I laid my head down on the fluffy pillow. I didn't feel tired, instead I felt weak and confused. My thought ran at a hundred miles a minute. That's all I did for the rest of the day, stared at the ceiling and wondered what this meant for me.
