Chapter 12 - Control

Everyone was yelling. Mom and dad were talking to the man trying their best to understand why I had to leave. The General and Addy were bickering and Gram was yelling at both of them to calm down. I closed my eyes and covered my ears. Everyone was going crazy, and it was my fault. "Good job." My eyes shot open, it wasn't possible. "You've done a wonderful job." It was the voice of the creature from my dream. "How?" I muttered. "I wanted to thank you." I looked around the room, it wasn't here. "Your little scene today was perfectly timed." I squeezed my head. "You're in my head." I closed my eyes. It laughed, it's laughter rung throughout my mind. "Shut up." I said through my teeth. It's laughter grew louder. "Shut up!" I jumped up and yelled. Everyone backed away from me. The laughter was dark, evil. It was overwhelming. "Get out of my head!" I yelled. "Say goodbye." It was gone. The voice stopped. Everyone watched me with worried eyes. Then it hit me. "The street." I ran past everyone and shot out of the building. A small dust fog followed behind me. I heard a scream, I looked over to the left. Three people looked up at a melting shadow, it looked like a giant snake. It's charcoal black skin sunk down and dripped onto the ground. It's head rose high into the air and two flaps shot out. "Hey!" I shouted. In a blink of an eye the snakes head was facing me. It's face resembled a cat, and it had too many eyes to count. I slowly began backing up, never once looking away. The creature slowly slithered towards me, it's long skinny tongue slipped out and shook in front of its face. The three people now behind the creature ran away. I slowly lead the creature away from the town, the General crept up behind the creature. It raised its head high into the air, its tongue licked the air. It froze. I could hear my heartbeat in my head, and my breathing was shaky. Suddenly it lunged, but not at me. It turned around in a blink of an eye and attacked the General. It's large jaws opened, the General jumped to the side and rolled a little bit. He was quick to get back on his feet. His green shield manifested on his arm. "Get everyone out of town!" He yelled to me. The snake lunged again. This time the General stood his ground, he raised the shield up. It seemed to double in size. The snakes jaw wrapped around the shield, but somehow the shield doubled in size again. The snake squirmed and hissed trying to get its jaw free, but it's razor sharp teeth held it there. I could see the General struggling. The snake was moving too much. I closed my eyes, I couldn't lose control this time. Too many lives depended on me. I could feel the swords handle fit perfectly in my hand. I opened my eyes and looked down at my weapon. The long blade was glowing an ominous dark red. I looked back at the snake, I ran towards it. It's tail swung towards me, I ducked under it with ease. It's body began to roll, I jumped and dodged and ducked around quickly. I ran and jumped towards the head of the beast. I swung my sword, the blade pierced one of the creatures many eyes. It let out a loud roar. Suddenly black inky vines began climbing up the blade. I tried pulling the blade out but the vines held it in place. "Focus on the blade!" The General yelled. "Think about the size of the sword! Don't think about weight, think about the power and strength!" I closed my eyes. The sound of the creature roaring and struggling was distracting. "Don't focus on what's going on around you!" I squeezed my eyes tighter. I imagined the sword, it's was dangerous and something I didn't want to hold. But the power it had in it felt amazing to have. I held onto the blade tightly, I could feel the handle grow. I imagined a longer blade, I could hear the creature erupt in howls. My eyes shot open. I ripped the blade free from the creatures head. I stared at the sword in amazement, it had tripled in size. "Kill the damn thing! Admire your weapon later!" I snapped out of my trance. The blade danced through the air as I swung the sword. Suddenly there was silence. The creature stopped struggling. It's head slid off its body and landed on the ground with a loud thud. The General's shield dispersed. We both stood there, staring at the creatures lifeless body. In a couple minutes the body began to melt into the ground. The General looked at me, then the sword. "You finally have control over that thing?" He panted. I looked down at the now normal sized sword. "I do." I looked up and smiled at the General. "Let's go save this town."
