I was running. From what I didn't know, but I didn't dare look back. I sprinted through the forest stumbling from roots that poked out of the ground. I could hear it running, it sounded like it was on four legs. Then it sounded like two, then four, then six, then two. I could hear it growling, but it sounded like every horrible animal I could think of growling together. I tripped on something and fell face first into the dirt. I tried to hurry and stand but my leg was being held down by something. I forced myself to turn around, I only saw its eyes. It's eyes were bright red, it glared down at me. I continued to struggle but something held me down and began to crush me. It's jaw unhinged, rows of teeth emerged from its gums and in a blink it lunges. I screamed. Suddenly I was in the hotel room and Addy was shaking me awake. "Jacob! Jacob wake up!" I jumped up and looked around me with fear. "I was, I was in a forest." I could barely speak because my whole body was shaking violently. I was panting and sweating. "Are you okay?" Addy asked concerned. I shook my head. "I had a nightmare, it felt so real." I tried taking deep breaths to try and help me calm down. I felt dizzy. "What time is it?" Addy looked over at a clock. "It's ten in the morning." I closed my eyes and leaned my head back. I was slowly calming down. Someone started pounding on the door. I jumped from the sudden noise. "I'll go answer it." Addy stood up and approached the door. She unlocked it and opened it cautiously. Suddenly gram dad and mom burst into the room and ran to me. "Are you okay Jacob? We heard you scream." I nodded my head. "I'm fine. Just a nightmare." Gram and mom let out a relieved sigh. "What did you see that made you so scared?" My dad asked me. "I don't really know. I remember running from it, then I tripped and looked behind me. Then it lunged at me." I explained. "Seeing your first Melting Shadow probably triggered it." Dad said. I shrugged. "Maybe, sorry if I woke all of you up." Gram shook her head and patted my shoulder. "It's okay, we need to get on the road anyway. We're almost there!" Mom dad and gram went back into their hotel room to put their shoes on. Addy and I waited out in the hall. "I'm sorry if I woke you up." Addy shrugged. "It's fine, nightmares suck." I chuckled. "I have to ask, when was the last time you had a nightmare? Like a really terrible nightmare." I had to think for a moment. "I think it was when I was twelve. I was underwater, I don't know how or why but I was swimming around really fast. Out of nowhere, this huge shark swims by me. I was so scared, I swam away as fast as I could but it caught up. It swam under me and launched up hitting me into the air. Next thing I know I'm falling off my bed." Addy laughed. "You fell of your bed?" She asked through chuckles. I nodded. "Yup, fell face first onto the ground." She continued to laugh, I couldn't help but smile. Eventually everyone else walked out into the hall and we all made our way back to the cars. I started the car and began following dads car. "Do you know how close we are?" I asked Addy. "Not exactly, but it's close." I nodded my head. We drove for about twenty minutes when dad turned the car and drove towards the woods. I quickly turned and followed him. "There's no path!" I shouted. I could see dad speeding up. Against my better judgment, I pressed down harder on the gas pedal. Dads car zoomed through the thick trees, I followed right behind. I drove straight through the trees and slammed on the brakes. Addy and I launched forward. "What the hell?!" I looked behind us, the trees were still standing. "Well that was an experience." Addy said whole panting. I looked forward, dads car was parked up ahead. I noticed that there was now a dirt road, and a sign with an arrow pointing deeper into the woods. "Welcome, this way to your destination." I read out loud. I drove up behind dads car. Addy and I got out, gram and mom ran up to us. "We heard the car brakes! Are you two okay?!" Mom asked us. We both nodded. "I didn't expect that, how is that even possible?" I asked. "We have a protection spell around the town, any hunter can enter and exit. Humans can't enter." Gram explained. I held my hand up. "What about the Melting Shadows?" Gram and mom looked at each other than looked back at me. "That's a work in progress." Mom said quickly. Addy and I followed gram and mom back towards dad. He was leaning on the driver side door. "You alright?" He asked. I gave him a thumbs up, he nodded and began walking forward. "We aren't driving anymore?" I asked, gram shook her head. "It's just up here, you'll love it!" I looked over at Addy, she shrugged. We walked for a few minutes, the sound of birds chirping surrounded us. A feeling of calmness filled me, I couldn't help but breath in the fresh air. I took a deep breath, the scent of nature was sweet and comforting. "We're here." Gram pulled on my arm. I looked forward, my breath left my lungs. People were everywhere, beautiful buildings lined the sides of the dirt road. Children ran around playing and chasing each other, parents watched with joy in their eyes. Everything was joyful. I couldn't help but smile. "It's wonderful." I said. Mom placed a gentle hand on my arm. "I wanted to raise you here, a place where you could be around people who were just like you." I gave my mom a sad smile. "Why couldn't you?" She looked down at the ground. "We weren't allowed to." I was gonna ask why, but a man began approaching us. "Hello Mrs Bell! It's been too long!" The man hugged gram. "Oh I've missed being here! So much life!" He smiled, then noticed me. "Who is this?" He asked, I reached my hand out. "My name is Jacob sir." He looked down at my hand, instead of shaking it he ignored it and hugged me. I was surprised and a little uncomfortable with the sudden action. "Welcome Jacob." He said once he let go of me. "What can I do for you?" He asked. "Jacob needs to find out what his ability is." Gram said for me. He smiled at me. "We can most certainly do that. This way." He turned and began walking. I walked next to gram as we followed. "How does this work exactly?" I whispered. "His ability is insightful, he can see everyone's ability. It's not very strong in battle, but it's quite rare." I nodded my head. "So he'll look at me and see some kind of color or something?" Gram chuckled. "You'll see." We walked for a few minutes. Finally the man approached a small wooden house, it had beads hanging in the doorway. "Head inside please." Gram entered first, then I was second and everyone else entered behind me. The inside had two pillows in the center of the room, off to the left was some wooden chairs. They looked freshly carved. "Jacob, please stand behind that pillow." I followed what I was told and stood behind the pillow that was closest to the door. "Everyone else take a seat." Everyone sat down in a chair, dad stood behind mom and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. The man stood behind the other pillow in front of me. "Follow my actions." He placed his knees on the pillow and rested his hands in his lap. I placed my knees on my pillow and held my hands in my lap. The man smiled at me. "Please hold your hand out." I held out my right hand. He took my hand and held it in between his own. "Close your eyes." I followed his orders. "Now, I want you to completely relax. It will allow your ability to appear to me." I took a deep breath and calmed myself, it felt like I was escaping my own body. Suddenly my hand began to burn, it wasn't sever but it was obvious noticeable. I heard the man grunt. I started to feel angry, it was growing and growing until I wanted to do harm. I wanted the man to let go of my hand, his grip tightened. The anger reached a peak, it was the same evil feeling I felt when everyone was fighting back at home. I pulled my arm away from the man, he held on tighter. The burning was painful now. My eyes shot open, at the same time my hand burst into a dark red light. The man fell backwards. "It's you. You were never supposed to be here!" I looked down at my hand, I could feel the evil resonating off of the red glow. "What's happening to him?!" My mom shouted. The man jumped up and backed away from me. "He's aggression."
