Verity's Pov :
I am done with my work here. Finally. It's 4:30 pm and my shift at the Cafe is over. Damn... It was a tiring day.
I am walking down the Gay Street towards the Subway to catch my train back to 1st Avenue. I'm so ready to go home. The sun will set soon, wow, the sky looks beautiful.
I notice the free birds - singing, clouds floating and there is a tint of orange in the sky. It's so calm. The breeze is cool and the rustling of leaves can be heard. I have always loved to notice nature. My favourite times of the day are daybreak and dawn because they're so pretty, I enjoy seeing the twilight.
As the station gets closer, I pull out my headphones from my backpack, blasting music again and hoping not to see Nathan as he is annoying asf.
Not to mention, he also invades people's privacy.
As I wait on the station tapping my foot on the ground I notice a familiar figure walking towards me. He has a bright smile on his face as he walks closer to the bench I'm sitting on. He sits next to me and greets me.
Nathan.
Not again. Oh lord, my privacy!!!! "hey" he says as his eyes are fixated at the moving trains.
"hey" I say in response, this time not being rude because I literally lost my savage brain cells dealing with stupid customers and perhaps have no energy left. "Verity... How are you here? " he asks looking at me now. "Well, I kinda work here. Unfortunately. " I say and sigh. "Cool. Me too... " he says and I respond with a nod. My eyes started to become heavy as I'm so fkn tired. I can barely open them anymore, I just need to sleep.
The sound of the wheels screeching on the track make me flinch and open my eyes as I notice that the train back to 1st Avenue is here. I love this train because it stops only at Koreatown and goes straight to 1st Avenue. Too many stations make me lose my patience. I travel through a different train in the morning which usually takes a longer time to reach my destination because I love my mornings in the train. I purposely choose that one train daily so I can sit and think in peace but this Nathan won't leave me alone.
The train doors open and we walk in. There are almost no passengers, it's quite empty. Some days I even travel alone which is a makes me a little paranoid about myself but it's peaceful but.... Not today I guess.
<...............>
The entire time Nathan and Verity were silent. It was just peaceful. They had each others company but still had their space.
Nathan sat facing Verity, meaning he was opposite to Verity but both sat beside the doors. One towards the west door and one towards the east.
Nathan as usual was reading a book and Verity was on her phone listening to music.
The train wheels screech once again as it stops at the station of Koreatown but the boy does not seem to notice due to him falling asleep. His book was on his face and he had his shoes off.
Verity seemed to notice that it was his stop and decided to wake him up. He wouldn't wake up. She tried her best yet he hardly cared. She then smacked his face with his book which made him shriek out of pain and then realized that he had to leave. He apologized and thanked, and quickly rushed out before the doors could close.
Verity dozed back to her phone and looked out of the window, deep in thoughts. When her stop came and she got up, she noticed a sketchbook lying where the boy sat, she picked it up and read the name NATHAN MOORE written on the cover and decided to carry it with her.
She had to return it to him tomorrow but first she also had to see the contents . She walked out flipping through the pages of the book, looking at some cartoons made by him. They were even dated. She noticed a cartoon which seemed to catch her eye and soon realized it was her.
He had drawn her in his sketchbook. She blushed looking at the cute animated Verity and smiled to herself. He has a great drawing. It was an animation of him and Verity in the train from earlier today and there was something written on the bottom of the page.
"a friend I made today"
Verity read it and closed the sketchbook and shoved it into her backpack carefully. There were no further cartoons as that was the last one he made today.
She walked towards her home whistling and stopping at her apartment whispered, "what a tiring day! "
