Chapter 32 - Maggie

Chapter 32

LOU RIVERS

Commencing the operation, we headed our way to the location of the target but that was not so fast though as Maggie and Marc were kind of in an argument of who's going for the kill.

They both want to do it but given their strength, two on one was just too much. Hence, I have suggested for a rock-paper-scissors hand game and Marc grimaced when Maggie won.

'hahaha'

Killing wasn't new to them anymore.

I may not know exactly how many died in their hands but I am pretty sure there were a few and— I am certain that Maggie's first time was back, two years ago.

Well, no elite knight of a pack had not stained his/her hands or had not taken a life. One is either willing or forced to do so. That's how it takes to be in that rank; kill or be killed.

Usually, at the last phase of the training of becoming an elite knight, before granting the title, one would be ordered to tag along on a mission with the experienced ones and will deliver the last hit for the kill.

This has been made a practice of any pack— to get used to the feeling of killing because the path of an elite knight is full of bloodshed.

With my ability, I was able to suppress my companion's domineering presence along with mine and that made our target to jolt forward, turned and growled at us after announcing our presence to him.

He was a rotten mess.

His coat was torn, barefoot, and seemed to had taken a bath ages ago. There were visible bruises in him too.

When we located him, he was devouring a newly hunted hare.

The target continued to growl at us and he was restless—

... his eyes scanned us from left to right with excessive blinking,

... his saliva was pooling in his mouth and continously dripping on the corner,

... and his heart— his heart was pounding louder and louder.

Then Maggie took a step forward, she was wickedly smiling.

The helpless, the shivering coward from two years ago was no longer there.

Maggie—

She— has changed.

Feeling the flow of power as I boosted her along with Marc, she initiated the first move.

The man's eyes turned wide when Maggie appeared an arm's length before him and landed a hard punch on his jaw.

He was sent away by the force.

Groaning on the ground, he pushed himself up but before he could even lift his head up, a kick landed on his stomach that made him to yelp and rolled away one more time.

Yelling in rage, the man stood up, angrily scanning his surroundings to spot his opponent but sadly— of naught; he could not keep up with Maggie's speed.

Shortly, a gust of blood spurted from his neck like a fountain. Feeling the pain, he clamped the cut with his palm and vigorously turning around, then sideways, trying to locate his enemy.

Then he growled with rage when he found what he was looking for, but Maggie—

'nah'

... she just cracked a mocking smile towards the wounded man, and at the same time, twirling in her hand the looted leaf-shaped dagger of silver from two years ago.

The gesture seemed to challenged the insane werewolf and made him more enraged. He growled loudly and dashed for a hit.

Maggie welcomed the attack.

They settled for close combat.

The man was good, his movements were surely honed from many trainings and countless battles, given his age. Just that— he was not on par with Maggie.

My boost made that possible.

Maggie was on the defensive by then; letting the man to let out his rage, and when she had enough, a blow on the stomach made the man to bulged his eyes in pain and vomit a lump of blood.

Staggering backwards, he tried to get hold of his balance and he did, but then— a fist landed right on his face, sending him away on the side.

As her alpha, I felt Maggie's pounding heart and overwhelming emotion. There was so much excitement in her and it manifested in her eyes.

Her eyes—

They sparkled with glee, with so much delight that she looked so evil.

Without a pause, she swung a kick and a punch. It was continuous that her opponent could not lift a hand to counter-back.

And in her every strike, her smile—

... her smile grew wider and wider that it got to the point that she was voicing her joy through her laughter.

'yeah'

She was laughing.

Maggie—

She was hella terrifying.

I did not know if I should be happy or worried about her personality-switch during combat, but somehow I knew that her drastic change has got something to do with the incident from two years ago.

Psychologically, it affected her.

Glancing at Marc, he surely was worried but somehow at peace.

There, I commended his control once again. With my boost, he should have felt the surge of power coursing through him but he remained composed; keeping everything under control.

Such control— is commendable.

'control'

'yeah'

Just like his control of not telling Maggie his feelings all this time.

Really commendable—

'tsk tsk'

Then I heard bone cracking, the man finally shifted. Smirking, Maggie did the same.

They fought, claws to claws and fangs to fangs but Maggie's dominance was just too much.

Pinning the enemy werewolf on the ground, she ripped off his neck with her sharp-pointed canines then howled that echoed long and far.

She won—

'yeah'

We have completed successfully the mission.

'clap clap'
