"Darryl, my boy, I'm sure we can talk this out with your father. He didn't have to waste your previous time on such matters." The king said trying to persuade him. He got out of his throne and walked to Daryl to put an arm around his shoulders.
"I couldn't agree more on wasting my time." He muttered to himself and looked at the arm across his shoulders. He rolled his eyes, took off the arm and took a deep breath.
"Your majesty, let's not waste each others' time on such matters. I can see that the money sure is benefiting you and your family. The new interior decorating sure is eye-catching. If you would excuse me, I will now take my leave." He then walked out of the the throne room and was escorted to his room by the servant.
The king threw a vase to the wall and it shattered into a thousand pieces. His face was flushed from all the anger. "John! Melissa! Come here now!" The king shouted and his children came in the room to see their father in a mess. They knew what he was going to tell them. Here we go again.
"Melissa! I told you to make the prince fall in love with you but what have you been doing?! You are nothing but a useless princess who can't get a prince to fall in love with you!" Melissa rolled her eyes at her father's temper tantrum waiting for him to finish. The king then turned to his son.
"You! You're just another useless one. Can't you get the prince to trust you?! Look now! The Metuzan kingdom is asking for the taxes! Where am I supposed to get that money?! Better yet, they are asking me to have the money by the end of the week! All of you are just useless!" John snapped. He had always ignored his father all these years, but today, he had crossed the line. No wonder their mother left him. Now they were stuck with him since their grandparents didn't want anything to do with him.
"Well maybe you should have thought of that before you gambled all the money! No wonder mother left you! Look here your majesty, me and Melissa are done!" He said and grabbed Melissa to walk out of the room. They didn't know where they were going but as long as it was away from their maniacal father. Out of nowhere, guards appeared, blocking their way out.
"Where do you think you are going?" Their father asked in a murderous tone. They turned around and gave each other a glance. There really is no way of leaving this godforsaken place. John inhaled and dragged his sister to go and sit on the chairs.
"So, what are we supposed to do? Daryl is interested in some village girl and he's been shunning me." Melissa said very frustrated.
"So what you are saying is that you are being defeated by a village girl? And you're proud to say that out loud? I don't know what you will do, nor do I care. Just figure out a way. All I care is for the results." With that he left the throne room like nothing had ever happened. John took another deep breath and walked to Daryl's room.
"Hi ya buddy! Watcha doing?" He walked into the room and Daryl jolted up from the bed. His hair was all ruffled and all he saw was a blur. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hands and when he looked up, he wished that he would have ignored him. All I wanted was an afternoon away from the annoying family but no! I don't even get that. What on earth did I do in my past life to deserve this!
"You do know you are invading my privacy, right?" He arched his eyebrows. John walked to the side of his bed and sat down on the stool beside it.
"Look, Daryl. I am going to be honest with you. I hate you with a passion but am forced to befriend you because my father wants you to decrease his quota of the taxes. Cause, I mean, who would like a person who has a stick up his-" He was stopped by Daryl cause he had enough of what he was saying.
"I get you. I understood the point..... I have one question. How was the castle renovated? It wasn't like this the last time I was here." He took a look around the room.
"Like duh! Of course the castle got some renovations in the last ten years. Your castle is different as well..... I know this will wound my pride but... Me and Melissa need your help." John hung his head down after saying that. He hated asking for help since he was someone who preferred to do things all by himself.
"With what?" Daryl asked not liking his presence. This broke a record of the longest they had talked to each other.
"We want to leave the castle. We're tired of my father. He is the most annoying person in the world. Well other than you of course. So, can you help us?" I can't believe my freedom depends on this arrogant ass. What else can I do when I'm out of options?
"No. I won't help you leave the castle."
"What? Why won't you?" John stood up and looked at the man sat on the bed. This dude is heartless. I embarrassed myself and he still wont help me? Guess I had my hopes way too high.
"I'll help you dethrone your father instead. Does that sound better?"
"Fine. I can't believe I stooped so low as to ask for you to help me.... Wait, come again. Help me dethrone my father?" His face contorted into a confused mess.
"From what you've told me, your father has committed crimes which make him not suitable to sit on the throne." He said while placing his hands behind his head and leaning on the bed. John sat back down.
"How did you know all this?"
"Because, I, was tutored on the kingdom rules since a young age, unlike you." He said in a matter of fact tone.
"Gee, don't you know how to brag." John said with a hint of sarcasm and rolled his eyes at him.
"So, you ready to be king?"
