A teenage girl sat across her mother in a carriage, waiting for her father. "Do I bloody have to go to this stupid gala?" Elayna asked, crossing her arms on her chest.
"Elayna, watch your language." Her mother warned her. She turned to look out the window wondering what was taking her husband a lot of time to do. If they were late they would be the center of everyone's attention which she never liked, but her husband and daughter, on the other hand, were another case.
"Ooh, I'm so bloody scared mother. Whatsoever shall you bloody do to me, if I don't?" She said in a sarcastic tone and rolled her eyes. Elayna was a fifteen year old girl. Many liked to call her a brat who was doted on by her father...and her mother, well, she tolerated her daughter. They were still at their castle gates, since the King had not yet boarded. When he walked in, he saw his wife and beloved daughter throwing each other daggers. He immediately knew who was at fault. He arranged his collar and turned to see his daughter flashing him a bright smile. His resolve started to weaken, how can i stay mad at my little baby? He thought as he cleared his throat. He decided that the disrespect she was showing her mother had gone on for far too long.
"Elayna, refrain from disrespecting your mother okay? If she says not to do something, don't do it. She only wants what is the best for you, understood?" Elayna acted as the perfect daughter as she turned to her mother with an apologetic smile on her face. If anyone could have seen her, they would have thought that she was really sorry. But her mother knew better than to be fooled by that little cute face. "Mother, it is my deepest regret to treat you with such disrespect. I hope that you can find it in you to forgive this horrible teenage daughter of yours." She then dropped her head and started heaving fake sobs. The queen took a look at her pretentious daughter. "Whatever." She said and told the coachman to start their journey.
"Oh! By the way, baby, I need you to be on your best behavior at the gala. I heard that the prince of Metuza will be attending, maybe you could try to get along with him and we'll perhaps arrange a marriage for the two of you." King Michael asked, trying to get a reaction from her daughter.
If she didn't want to then he wouldn't' force it, because he only wanted the best for his baby. Elayna looked at her father's smile. She lowered her head and her black hair gathered around her like a halo. She muttered a curse under her breath. One wouldn't think that she loved her father, but, she did, very much for a matter of fact. She always loved to see her father's bright smile, see him laugh his heart out. It wouldn't hurt to make a few sacrifices for father. Or...maybe I could make the other side not to want me and that prince engaged. She looked up at her father and gave him a smile. "Of course I will father. You can trust me on that."
When they arrived at the venue, they saw carriages from different kingdoms with their seals etched on the door. Elayna and her family went in the building and saw a lot of people her age. The ballroom was beautiful surrounded by flags of all the twenty four kingdoms on the grid and of course, the flag of Aruza kingdom was at the very center of it as the ruling kingdom. Every girl in the ballroom had their eyes strained on searching for a handsome lad wearing the flag of the all powerful Aruza. They didn't know how he looked like for, he avoided any public gathering that was hosted for all the kingdoms. Some of them knew him from his birthday parties, but they were very few as only a select group of people were invited to his parties.
The ballroom was lit bright by big, beautiful chandeliers. The dance floor already had couples spinning and twirling away to the tune, looking at each other with loving gazes. Five dining tables were arranged at a calculated distance away from each other, sprawled with mouth-watering delicacies. There was also where people could take pictures so that they could keep them and tell their children how they met their mother. Elayna looked at the couples on the dance floor and gagged. She then turned to take a look at the dining tabled and rubbed her hands together. Now that is my area of expertise. I'm gonna scarf down as much food as I can. They are gonna regret inviting me to this bloody gala. She walked over and got a few stares from the princes. One thing that she thanked her mother for was giving her a beautiful face and figure.
All the princes turned to look at the beautiful princess walking to the dining table. She, unlike other princesses, wore a knee-length red dress that fitted her perfectly on her upper half and flowed from her waist to her knees. It had a golden embroidery of her kingdom's flag on the upper half. She paired it off with red high heels and a golden choker on her neck. Her jet-black hair was not done into a huge updo like the rest, but was let to flow freely on her back in wavy curls. She saw all the stares she got and decided to bask in its glory by flipping her hair and messing it all up. Her dark skin glowed under the light. It made her look like an evil enchantress who had no care in the world. She only came here because her father had told her to and she couldn't be able to tell him no. Since she was here, why not enjoy herself to the fullest? Her mother watched her from afar and shook her head at her daughter's display. She really loves all the attention she is getting, doesn't she?
"Hello princess, my name is Prince Anthony from Wuxia kingdom, and you are?" A rather handsome prince had walked up to her when he saw that she was all by herself. It was the perfect chance to talk to her before all the princes came. Elayna stopped munching on her mini, cream puff pie and looked at the idiot who dared to interrupt her delightful mealtime.
"Not interested." She said and went back to her eating her pie. The prince's face contorted into a frown. Not a single princess had ever rejected his approaches. He cleared his throat and decided to give it another shot.
"Princess, you seem kind of lonely so I just wanted to accompany you. I hope you don't mind." When he finished his sentence, Elayna put her pie down. She never liked getting interrupted while enjoying her meal.
"Didn't I just bloody tell you that I'm not interested? Plus if I wanted a 'companion', I would have gotten one a long time ago. With my looks, getting a companion is as easy as blinking an eye to me. So please, take your bloody unsightly face to some other princess who is at the very least not annoyed by your overpowering cologne." With that, she flipped her hair and left the hall.
The prince was left there in shock. Never had a princess rejected him. Even if they did, they always did it in a kind way. He pulled his cape and sniffed it trying to decipher whether his cologne was overpowering or not. And did she just say that my face was unsightly? He was very self-conscious from then on and didn't mingle with the crowd that much. Good thing nobody saw him getting dissed by Elayna or else that would have been a huge embarrassment.
Elayna went to a balcony that was situated far away from that horrible place. She took some time to be more familiar with her surroundings. The balcony was rather big and spacious. It had chrysanthemums which were in full bloom on one corner in a brown vase. You could have a great view of the place. A vase of pink roses were set on the edge, she walked over and picked one. When she brought the beautiful flower to her nose, it's wonderful scent enveloped her senses. But, she could also smell something else. Cologne? She turned around and saw a boy seating at the farthest edge of the garden, staring into nothing but space. Weirdo! Since he was obstructing her peace time, she walked over to him.
"Hey buster! Go away. You are ruining my wonderful alone time with just your mere presence." Erick looked up to see a girl talking to him. What a nerve this girl has. Instead of getting up as she had told him to do, he slumped on the bench, making himself comfortable. "I am not moving and there is nothing you can do about it. Plus, if you knew who you were talking to, you would have minded your manners." Elayna quirked a brow and took time to study the bloody arrogant ass in front of her. Gotta admit, he sure is hot. Wait, that's not the point.
"Do I look like I give a bloody damn? Just go the hell away." Erick laughed coldly at her remark. It did not have even a hint of humor, but was filled with hate and murderous intent.
"Oh! Elayna baby! There you are. I've been looking all over for you...Oh, I see that you've met the powerful Aruzian prince." Elayna cursed inwardly and turned to look at the smug look at the smug look on the prince's face.
"Aruzian prince?"
