I couldn't stop thinking about the accident for the last 2 days. Meeting Nicholas like that was an accomplishment of its own and I couldn't help to feel giddy about it. It felt like a dream come true, he was like what people had described him and he sounded so perfect in my ears. He was like the dream guy everyone would like. But then I remember the lunch he had asked me to join.
it was too good to be true, he must be joking right? He must be I was a burden and I bet he didn't want to bring me it'd be too hard for him to cope up with.
But I couldn't help to feel a bit weirded out, his intention seems pure and as far as I know, he hasn't done anything bad to me and actually been very helpful in my unfortunate situation but why was he doing this?
I believe everyone has a good intention and they were not all bad and I would have understood why they wouldn't help me, I mean come on I'm a burden to the society. Even I wouldn't think I would have helped myself so why was he different?
his pure intention makes me wonder.
"Nana... you're going to burn your books if you kept staring at it like that,' I snap out of my trance as I listen to the voice that has been talking.
"Yura?' I asked as I felt a sudden hand had attached itself to mine and I smile.
"The one and only nana, what were you thinking about?" That question, it was an easy question that I could just belt out the answers but I couldn't and right now denying it was better than facing it, I was not ready.
"Nothing Yura... I'm just thinking about the check-up this week,' Yura smiled at it as she hugs me tight.
Kim Yura was a transfer girl from Korea, she had transferred here to America on the beginning of middle school, she was a victim of bullying like Anaya she had a different flaw she had to live for the rest of her life, she was Asian. It was still the 21st century and discrimination is still around and it had affected her as she was bullied for being different than her classmates. So went she had seen Anaya one day on the floor sobbing as people surround her she wouldn't bat an eyelash as she steps forward to her class, it was the first day of transferring and she couldn't just scumbag into another bullying but she couldn't walk another step when she saw that Anaya was blind, she was different from her yet so similar.
So she had to do what she had to do, she had punch Anaya's bullies, a title for herself. A sudden rush had made her fear by the school as her confidence grew but she couldn't help to feel bad for Anaya and had stayed with her. Her intention was not good before but what happens next is a blessing for Anaya.
"Oh... nana don't you worry alright? You'll do great and you'll finally get to see nana, think about it," It was true Anaya was born as a blind person, she had zero experience in seeing things in general so thinking about the check-up and a possible chance of her recovering and 80% of sight recover was scary. She was so used to see the world with her ears what would happen if she saw the world as it was would she be happy or sad?
After 17 years of pleading with the doctor and a long list of waiting for a donor, she got a called 2 months ago that she would be conducted a check-up because a donor had arrived and she could have been compatible with the eye. Hearing the call Anaya's father had sob a thank you as it was a chance for his daughter to start a new life, a life better than what he had given, he had high expectation.
"You know how nervous I can get with the doctors Yura..." I smiled knowing Yura was laughing as she slings he arms.
"What do you think about it nana? Being able to see finally, you'll be able to see shapes and colours and finally you're opinion on clothes will be better!" she jokes as I slap her arms.
"Hey! My fashion taste is not that bad...." I laugh
"Well you could say that to the neon pants and polka dot sweater you were last Friday," she laughs and I pinch her.
"Well it's not like I can see what colour I chose and I already told dad just to get me something simple and matching I can wear without worrying the colour and I should I just worry how comfortable it would be in my body."
"Sweatpants and shirt on a Saturday morning?" she asked and I giddily smile tapping her arms.
Silence took over as we both went back to what we were doing while I was trying to write in braille Yura had scooted over her chair and look.
"Either you are one smart bean nana or I'm just plain dumb," she laughs as she picked up my dots and line as she was feeling the words.
"Both I guess," I joke as she hits my arm and I groan on the sudden impact.
"You're lucky I don't read braille, should I study it though? I could really help you with homework you know," She offers as I shook my head a no.
"Wasting your time to study braille? it might sound fun but it's not. Dad took his whole life studying braille I'm not letting you waste your time for stupid talent like this you should do other things," I scolded her.
"Nana, I would not mind learning this and give up archery if I can communicate with you, it's not a stupid talent it's a blessing I could use to help other and especially you, despite you not wanting any help."
