Chereads / A Man Among Gods / Chapter 4 - He Really Is Human

Chapter 4 - He Really Is Human

A week after the return of Zomarus the rookie class was ready for their training session with one of the main military leaders, Yi Qin.

Yi Qin was normally posted up on the front lines, but due to certain circumstances, he would be free for a couple of months. He stayed at the Silver Winged Academy to teach the rookies the art of war.

Yi Qin was no slouch, he was on the leaner side with muscles covering his entire body. He had the body most people aimed for with hard work and dedication.

"Listen up youngsters. I'm here to train you all and get you ready for the war against humans. One thing you all should know is that these humans are not as strong as us gods, but they can sure hold their own. The stronger humans will have holy weapons which could damage even a god. So today we are going to learn to defend ourselves and find the right opportunity to counterattack." Yi Qin explained to the young kids as he opened a closet that contained many different weapons.

The closet contained many various weapons such as swords, bows, spears, axes, and even maces. These weapons were all normal weapons and not holy weapons. The weapons that Yi Qin brought in could not deal damage to a god and could be used perfectly for training.

"Every one of you will choose a weapon of your choice and I will choose who you will be battling. The battle will come to an end when a challenger yields or is being overpowered by the opponent."

Yi Qin told the children as he exited the room and headed towards the training grounds located in the back of the school.

One by one every student grabbed their weapon of choice and soon met outside on the training grounds. Iva, the most powerful student in the class, chose a sword, as well as Lurtar. Tura, the third strongest, decided to wield a bow and arrow which could be hard in a one on one battle. Lastly, Zomarus chose a mace. The mace was a short wooden handle that was connected to a small heavy ball with spikes by a chain.

The rest of the students mostly grabbed plain swords with some exceptions that chose spears and axes. Some of the students decided to play around with the weapons knowing that they could not get hurt by them.

Shortly, Yi Qin caught the attention of everyone and made them come to silence.

"Many of you grabbed a sword which could be one of the best weapons, but without proper training or techniques, you are as good as dead."

Yi Qin uttered as he grabbed a sword and moved it with such speed that no one could keep up with his movements. The entire thing looked like a blur but it was obvious that no one wanted to be on the other side of the General.

"I need two swordsmen to battle for me."

Yi Qin ordered. Soon a student no higher than the midtier of the classes stepped up to challenge another swordsman. However, he did not expect to see Lurtar stepping up to the challenge.

"Lurtar, God-level D-3 will accept your challenge."

Lurtar said to the young boy as he came to the middle of the battlefield as they both bowed to one another.

The midtier student had just begun to get in a stance as his body began to crumble from fear. The fear had taken over his body so fast that he fell onto his knees and screamed out a blood screeching scram.

"Dang, I thought Lurtar would only bully Zomarus, but it looks like he would take out just about anyone."

"Of course he would. One of the generals of the godly army came to visit, he had to give it his all to show off in front of him." A conversation that two students had as the fight was underway.

Lurtar slowly walked up to the student with fear and kicked his shoulders making him fall to the ground. The student was now on his back with his hands on his head still screaming.

"I win," said Lurtar while he threw his sword down on the ground next to the poor kid's head. Lurtar soon walked back to his group of friends and took a look towards Iva hoping that she was impressed by his performance.

Iva did not look any different than any other day, but the general manager was definitely pleased by the performance as he stood up with a clap. "Now that was a true battle of gods. I would have liked to see more swordsmanship but it was still amazing."

"Now that we've seen the battle of two swordsmen lets get a random combo. Miss Iva could you please step up, and you boy. The boy with a spear." Yi Qin pointed around a boy who was holding the spear over his shoulder.

"Come here and battle Miss Iva. Many people would believe that the outcome is already decided since the spear has more reach. However, a swordsman could easily take down a spear holder with enough skill."

Iva was a well-known person in the school but many were confused that a high ranking official would know the name of a schoolgirl.

Iva walked into the battlefield and bowed to her opponent, "Iva, God-level D-3." She spoke with such elegance and beauty. Her soft voice would make anyone fall for her as most of the guys in the class wished they could share the battlefield with her.

"Lu, God-level D-1," Lu announced as he gave her a little bow and then grabbed his weapon to battle.

As soon as the battle started the boy grabbed his spear and pointed at Iva as he used his speed to get closer to her. While the boy rushed her, Iva stood her ground as her sword stood up straight between her and her opponent.

The boy charged at Iva with full force and speed, he looked unstoppable with his spear that could do damage. As he made his way closer he prepared himself to make connections with her body, but soon he looked down as he noticed the silver sword get smashed into pieces against his body.

"Did you see that? Her speed could match some of the strongest gods." Some kids were discussing it while they observed the fight. High-level gods would have noticed her movements, but normal students could not see a thing besides a blur.

As most of the students were in awe their attention turned to the General who was stood up clapping. "That was an amazing show of swordsmanship. I have never seen a god complete such movement and speed at such a young age."

While the General gave praise to the girl everyone in the field began to clap for her as well, some louder than others.

While everyone was clapping there seemed to be two individuals who were not, Tura and Zomarus. Many did not seem to notice the two, but the General seemed to not be very fond of the disrespect.

"I see that two of your peers think it is acceptable to not clap while others do. When you are blessed to see such movements you should be grateful. Gods like you will probably never see this let alone be able to do it someday, so you should show some respect when you see such talent." The General began to yell louder and louder at the two children.

Soon others began to look towards the two individuals and began to whisper among themselves. "I can't believe they are getting yelled at so badly. If that were me I would cry."

"Is that not Zomarus, the human? Someone like him should be thankful that he is still here."

While many of the kids began to talk about Zomarus none of them mentioned Tura. They all thought that they could beat Zomarus and decided to make fun of him, but Tura was different. Tura was someone people did not want to offend since she was the third strongest, and the second cutest person.

"If you two want to disrespect Miss Iva then maybe it is because you reckon you are more skilled than her. Why not both of you battle and show your classmates just how skilled you are."

General Yi Qin claimed as he looked at the two gods' weapons and began to laugh.

Tura looked at the ground the entire time as she walked towards the battlefield and did not bother to bow to her opponent. "Tura, daughter of god Tinic. God-level D-2."

As soon as Tura introducer herself many students made the connection that she was a beauty in her own way. She was not as cute as Iva but she definitely had a great figure. Many of the guys in the class could not stop staring.

Many still continued to mumble as Zomarus stepped up to the field and bowed. "Zomarus. Unranked." Those two words echoed the field and towards the eyes of everyone and even the General.

"Looks like the rumors are true. He is unranked." Many students continued to gossip as some even began to laugh at being unranked.

Once the battle started Tura started to make some distance between the two. She was using a bow and Zomarus a mace. Distance would determine the outcome of this fight. If Tura lost the distance battle it would be obvious that she would lose and she knew it.

Zoamrus might not have been as powerful as a god but he was versed in strategy and literature. If he did not want to die in this battle he would have to use what he learned and basic knowledge to get himself out of this battle.

Soon Tura made quite the distance between them as she climbed up a tree and began to shoot multiple arrows towards the boy. The arrows soon got closer to Zomarus, and he started to swing his mace around hoping that he could deflect them. He easily deflected two arrows from hitting his body and dodged some of the last remaining ones.

Tura had a small frown on her face as she noticed that none of the arrows were hitting the human. She did not want to kill the boy, but at the same time did not want to look weak. She definitely did not want to look weak in front of the General and disappoint her family. She hopped from tree to tree as she was preparing her ultimate move.

Zomarus was not doing great closing the gap but was doing a lot better than what most of the students thought he could. He found himself following the young god throughout the entire battle and needed to turn the tides towards his side.

Unlucky for Zomarus it was still midday and no shadows were around for him to power up. That meant Zomarus had to do what he could in the full day with the sun all around them.

Finally, Zomarus had cornered Tura as there were no more trees than she could possibly jump to without being attacked.

He kept eye contact with her as he noticed her trying to reach for an arrow but none had appeared. She had ran out of arrows and it was the perfect moment to attack her. He had a running start as he jumped towards her as he swung his mace.

At this moment Zomarus had fallen for her trap. Tura pretended to not have any arrows and once Zomarus leaped into the air she would attack. An arrow would come from her sleeve and she would use it to target Zomarus in one shot. The shot was one of the cleanest shots Tura had ever shot as it spun perfectly towards the middle of Zomarus' eyes.

Zomarus had not seen it coming, and once he was already in the air he could not move his body to dodge the arrow.

Furthermore, at the exact moment, his left eye started to glow and his body moved by itself to deflect the arrow with his mace. The problem was that the mace was spinning out of control and could not hit the arrow direction.

Since he had tried to stop the arrow, his body had turned from his early position and made the arrow strike his shoulder and not his head. If he had not move at that exact time there was no telling what would have happen.

His body fell from the air as there was now an arrow sticking out of his shoulder. There was a large amount of blood coming out of his shoulder seeing that the arrow was deep inside him.

The sky echoed with his screams as most students did not know how to react. It was the first time that any of them saw blood and especially the effects of a deadly attack.

"Shit! What have I done." Tura noticed her mistake and noticed that she had almost killed Zomarus. If he did not try to block her attack she would have been a murder.

General Yi Qin was in complete shock as none of the weapons were able to penetrate a God's skin. He finally realized that the young boy was the rumored human that attended the academy. A small whisper came out of the General's mouth and stayed inside his mind.

"He really is human."
