Chapter 14 - First General

Guy should have been nervous that day but with everyone radiating positivity he could only feel confident as he was about to meet the source of his parent's demise. As Sanchez led him to the presidential room and began to introduce himself the trophies caught Guy's eyes. There were very unique and rare weapons, armor, and even masterfully crafted technology placed on display. One of the things that Guy searched for was a watch worth the entirety of the world to him. The rare treasure was not in any of the glass casings for guests to view. Instead, it sat in the CEO's cusp of accomplishments displaying a finely hewn suit and a garish looking watch on his wrist. It was that watch itself that Guy's parents had created using nanotech funded by Quantum's research.

Guy's muscles tensed naturally at seeing the face of Quantum's CEO. The man in front of Guy showed no semblance of being capable of having any emotions and gave no aura that any normal human would feel. Instead the CEO's eyes equaled to the logical process of a calculator as they added every detail about Guy the moment he walked into the room. "This the body, Sanchez?" The CEO asked rhetorically. Despite the clarity of how much logic the man possessed he seemed to act with an average façade rather than the expected cold magistrate of an empire on both sides of the York City. His speech was regular for the introduction as Sanchez pressed Scot Garber's identity information onto the CEO's desk. What wasn't regular was the astounding speed that the CEO managed to absorb the information, including the DD214 document. "Meritorious good conduct medal." The CEO remarked after reading through it but Guy only nodded.

In any movie there was bound to be a fight break out between them but Guy was a real person not a fictional one. His world wasn't as nice and he didn't give himself away just by using the first meeting as a chance to assault the CEO. Guy's appearance with his black leather jacket, armored jeans, fitted blue t-shirt and multiple belts overlapping his waist gave him the presentation of a man more suited to roam the streets than a bodyguard interview at a research company. This actually made the CEO sign the hiring contract with a smooth but inhuman speed then hand it to Sanchez. Guy was still standing front and center he'd not been invited to sit down when Sanchez handed him the bill. The contract bonus nearly made Guy break out of line because of how much it paid.

"I call you, you answer. Understood?" The CEO said as he pulled out a phone for Sanchez to answer. "I know your story, you've been doing odd jobs for us for a while so you know what we do here. We deliver arms to the people who want them but Sanchez will also train you on the job for Quantum." Guy breathed a sigh internally as the calculated man seemed more concerned in his business than investigating past the documents. Guy believed that Konstantin's work must have provided enough evidence because a genius CEO took it granted. In reality it was Guy's natural charm and even the attention level that had made the CEO commit the crime of digging deeper. The red velvet carpet underneath Guy's feet made him realize who he was dealing with more than ever and that treating the man as a mark was a mistake.

Sailow Sanchez spoke, "I'll be showing him the cargo he's supposed to protect. We won't be needing him for anything. I don't plan on letting a new guy like you get ballz deep. We can't trust you with the boss' money so easily." Guy frowned immediately because he knew was being insulted without the intent to. "You know my story, why waste my time Sailow?" The CEO was signing his checks and not the right hand. "We could trust you if-" Sanchez said only to be interrupted, "if you procure something special for us. Something I've been trying to get my hands on legally without avail on the business front." The CEO pulled out a file from his printer after a few seconds of using his computer. The details were laid in front of 'Scott Garber' as he took a good look at the file handed to him by his new boss. The proximity of the watch to Guy didn't even register in his expression as he took the file from his boss's hands. "Talk to my assistant, she'll pay you the money for this fist job in advance." Sanchez whistled in surprise as he took a better liking to Guy who seemed rather engrossed in reading the file. The information was technology that was not yet even real on Earth and appeared to be science fiction yet Guy's focus showed his ability to hash a problem to the end.

If the CEO wanted it then there wasn't any villainous monologuing. Just a boss to employee transaction and Guy played his part well without flinching. "You can trust me." He said as he closed the folder and pressed it inside his jacket. It looked a little odd to shove a large folder into a leather jacket since a dress suit would have worked better but Guy's confidence made the awkwardness vanish. Sanchez smirked, "You'll fit right in but your first day is in two weeks. We don't need any loafers in the office so you better prove it before that time." The CEO turned his back from Guy and began walking back to his desk. Guy's reasons were yet to explained but he understood what his bosses was asking for in the job. His boss was a pitboss, a legendary arms dealer on the darkside and a classic elite in the bright side of business so getting this close to seeing CEO's back was tempting.

It wasn't tempting enough as Guy nodded then left the office. The moment he passed the great oak doors and closed them he breathed normally again. Guy faced the secretary as he showed his new hire contract and even received the account payment to Scott's bank name. Since the CEO had quickly notified the secretary of advance payment on a job it also meant that he could use it to finish the acquisition on the research. He could even steal it if Guy wanted to save up for a retirement fund instead of blowing it on proving himself. After the paperwork was done, Guy was assigned for work as well bringing him into Quantum's security team. It took the rest of the afternoon to clear himself and go home but thanks to being friends with Sailow, Guy was able to enjoy talking with him over the deets and dots of the day job.

After that, it was Guy who left for home. His world larger than the never sleeping streets of New York at the moment. There were things that he needed to clear to be able to return to a stable mind as his heart raced when he arrived at la casa. He even pulled out the accident newspaper from his to try and study what might have happened and how his parent's invention had gotten into his new boss' hands. Quantum previously held a different chairman who is now happily resigned and retired and his place, Sanchez' boss. At the time of death Quantum had been a technical foundation for patents which was how Guy's parents were employed. The man Guy marked, was a criminal who had grown up on the south side of New York crime sprees but he was also the new owner of his parent's final invention. The invention itself had been the only clue that his parents deaths were murders instead of an accident. The death of his parents had scored a painful scar into Guy as an eighteen year old in the world causing him to rant through chasing down the people he thought were responsible. Quantum had been under pressure by a mafia organization who had wanted to take the patented research as new weapon for the street. A new Nanotech was better than sci-fi when it's specially designed to be able to make unusual weapons. It however wasn't a cliche story of a vendetta or a business tycoon but rather how Guy's mark had snatched the weapon out of Quantum's labs.

His parents had attempted to retrieve the prototype through various means, including the use of laws meant to protect patents. Quantum even tried to help his parents by funding new inventions but their own meddling caused a mafia retaliation. The CEO was somehow responsible for their deaths and Guy spent a portion of his night, long past his average rigid schedule trying to cover as much investigation as possible. Guy was not yet a vigilante nor was he a capo in any way so eventually he found his sleeping hour after beginning to understand that he could not attack his new boss, yet. Not even if there seemed to evidence, there was not enough to take the CEO down. Even if he could, that watch was still very special that it would save his new boss' life no matter what. Guy eventually halted his pacing around and went to bed. His mission for the time being only led to more clues and also a need to draft a new plan of action.
