Before the Kashura could even do something against it everyone shot at them without hesitation. Rockets, sniper bullets and other missiles were sent flying at them and the stacking explosions were so loud that all the people had to cover their ears.
Another two Kashura were taken down making it three that were left.
It was around 3pm so they'd still have plenty of time.
The remaining beasts were even more enraged and started carelessly slamming into people taking down multiple soldiers at once. In just a few seconds half of the reinforcement-troops were taken out.
Could they really win? Three Kashura didn't sound like much anymore but for some reason they just continued to get stronger.
Their screech was now a pain to the human ear and anyone that didn't protect their ears would have no eardrums anymore.
Four more soldiers went down since their ears started bleeding.
Even though they had all the power they needed it wasn't easy. Kizou struggled to come up with some kind of plan as they ran out of people.
Just a few minutes earlier more than a hundred soldiers were gathered in this place but now that number dropped to just around 40.
Though 40 people still is a decent number the decrease in soldiers was worse than one could imagine. Their chance of survival went from 67% to just 21%. That's the power Kashura held. The royal military had an insanely high rank and sure was really strong but those beasts still were stronger.
Just for one of these creatures it'd take two S-Ranked royals. Now they were four which would mean they could take out two Kashura.
But it was three. The other soldiers that were left didn't even come close to being as powerful as Lia or her team. They only took down a few of these because nature was in their favor or because of sheer luck.
Celeste, Kizou, Yoru and Lia all gathered at one spot to discuss what to do now. Meanwhile the other soldiers began struggling keeping up with the current situation.
"Can we make it out of here alive..?" Lia was the first one to talk. "Tsk, I doubt so. Those creatures are stronger than I imagined. We need a lot of explosive power to kill them but now that we're less than 30 we can forget about that too. They're just too damn fast in the sky."
Yoru was pissed. Everyone else slowly lost faith in them. "I think it'd be better if we retreat..." Celeste announced in a voice full of anxiety. "I don't want to die yet.."
It began to rain and a thunderstorm crawled up to them.
Kizou agreed. Lia didn't. "But we can't just let everyone else die!" - "We're already letting them die just by discussing this matter right now Lia! Kizou and Celes are right, we can't do anything anymore. We either die here or live another day if we decide to retreat."
All of a sudden Kizou was sent flying. No one could see what was happening. "How did they...! Everyone run!!"
Kizou flew away hundreds of meters until he fell into the water that wasn't too far away from them. Just a moment later lighting striked the exact spot.
Yoru, Lia and Celeste were shocked. "There's no way he'd survive that right...?"
"No... Kizou is dead for sure.."
As they turned around they noticed there only were around ten other soldiers left. However, the Kashura treated them like toys. Mocking them, scratching them and slamming them down into the ground. Some of them were even sent flying and were passed on to the next Kashura.
"How did we manage to underestimate them?" Celeste asked. Yoru walked up to her and grabbed her cannon she dropped. "It's not that we underestimated them Celes, it's that they became a lot stronger over the past months."
Aiming at his target he shot the explosive right at a Kashura but the beast managed to dodge.
Another lighting was sent down from the sky and hit a tree. Everyone's clothes were wet and rain was pouring on their faces. Their weapons were useless now due to the thunderstorm. Celeste's cannon was the only gun not attracting electricity but it went out of ammo.
"Operation Lead Team reporting: We won't make it out alive. The Kashura have become way too strong for us too handle. It was an honor to serve our home until the very last breath."
"WHAT?! Hold on for longer we'll send you more reinforcements! You can't just-"
"No, don't bother doing so. There's a huge thunderstorm going on and we can't use our guns. I'm terribly sorry for not succeeding in today's operation."
All the remaining royal guards expressed their final words to the headquarters. The other soldiers that were toyed with are now dead and the Kashura are standing right in front of them.
"Let's fight until the very end."
And so the battle continued. Lia took out her Katana and had to hope for lightning not to strike her down. Celeste whipped out a few explosives she had left over and Yoru pulled out his with poison infused sword.
Lia put up a good fight with one of the beasts but soon couldn't hold up to its speed. She took one hit after another and only cut the Kashura a few times without it being bothered by those small wounds.
Celeste almost blew herself up as another Kashura threw her nade back at her and Yoru managed to poison one of them. The poisoned Kashura slowly lost its hold and dropped to the ground unable to fly. Instead it leaped towards Yoru who didn't see it coming. Its sharp claws went right through his heart. "YORU!!"
Celeste ran up to him and a wave of hot tears rushed down her face. "Why did it come to all this...?! We only were a month away from our marriage...!"
Celeste's head rested on her dead boyfriend's chest and without even noticing it a Kashura killed her painlessly. Her body was not connected to her head anymore but she remained conscious for a few more minutes. Tears were still running down her face and she relived the most beatiful moments of her life once more.
How she started dating Yoru in high school, the time she went on holidays with her boyfriend and parents in another, small country. The time her beloved man confessed to her.
Everything was gone.
Lia gave up on fighting, threw away her blade and made a gesture for the Kashura. Somehow it understood what she meant and she took out her phone.
"Hey Eguru, I had a lot of fun talking to you and was looking forward to a great friendship but it seems like we won't meet again. I'm sorry... Farewell."
Pressing on send she didn't turn off her phone and decided to leave the chat opened. "Well then, go ahead."
The Kashura did as told. Blood splattered and the last lighting strook down her blade. The rain found its end.
Operation Biurde was a total failure and a massive strike to Legrandeus army.
