Once the first Kashura dropped dead the other eight remaining wyvern like creatures split up and started to get serious.
Team Alpha finally arrived and now all the teams were engaging in this battle. Half of their troops had rocket launchers that would maybe come in handy today. Half of the Kashura settled down to the ground and almost wiped a whole Team out. Luckily most of them were able to evade their attack.
"Team Delta lost three men! Five remaining." The other beasts let down another rain of needles which made the battlefield become smaller and more complicated for the military.
Yoru soon realized he couldn't really do much with an M4 and decided to take the risk of getting killed to grab a stronger gun. Jumping over needles and watching every Kashura's moves he took what looked like a anti-tank machine gun and got out of there as quickly as possible.
But since the machine gun was quite heavy one of the Kashura sped up to take him down. Celeste luckily was fast enough to shoot its wing with her cannon or else Yoru would've died.
Don and his team managed to take out one Kashura and triumphed over their succesfull take-down.
Lia got up and switched positions. If they knew where she was it was a necessary thing. Once she arrived at a good position she reloaded the rifle and aimed at one of her targets once again. Three Kashura were flying around them and it was quite hard for her to aim at them due to their insane speed.
For a split second she heard trees rustling behind her and swiftly turned around with her katana already in her hands. A Kashura was leaping towards her ready to grab and squash its prey but just before the creature got hold of her she dodged and sliced down one of its legs.
With a lost bleeding limb the winged creature disappeared again.
Instead two other Kashura circled around her now and she was in a bad spot. She looked around and searched for a place to run off too but the other teams were too far away. She bit her lip. 'Damn it...! What do I do now?'
"Captain here, when will the reinforcements arrive already?!! We need those immediately!"
"I'm sorry but they're still on their way. Please hold on for ten more minutes."
Jumping to her right she barely evaded one attack but got hit by the other. Flying away five meters she dropped to the ground and had scratch wounds in her chest. They were bleeding.
"Team Alpha reporting... It's over. You got th-"
A scream could be heard all over the battlefield and there was not a single person it didn't have impact on. They just lost another five people and their numbers only continue to go down little by little.
"Team Delta here, we took down another Kahura!!"
Six remaining.
The two started attacking Lia together and now focussing on her foes she rushed up to them, dodged in between those creatures and hopped on the back of one. Holding on tight she was waiting for a moment to execute it with her blade.
The beast shook around violently and took multiple turns, even did multiple leaps but she didn't let go.
When it gave her an opening she let go with one hand, put all her strength into her arm and cut down its head. Another Kashura was taken down and its body was flying down in rapid speed.
Just before it hit the ground she jumped off of it to not let the impact take her down.
Five remaining.
Don was ordering around his team and they just so managed to not get killed by those monsters. Slowly they went out of ammo and the wait for reinforcements felt like an eternity.
This was a race and if help didn't arrive within the next few minutes they sure would've lost it.
As those beasts realized their comrades died they got more aggressive and even faster. Letting out screeches and taking trees with them they sure were angry as hell. Lia tried teaming up with other people but couldn't even find anyone. "Anyone still here?"
"Team Delta reporting: We're still struggling to hold our grounds, we may not make it either."
"Team Bete here, I think we could manage to care of the Kashura. We just need to hold on a little longer!"
She clenched her fist knowing that everyone is giving their all trying not to die here. "Celeste? Kizou? Yoru? Where are you guys? Are you alright?"
"Kizou here. Reinforcements arrive in less than five minutes. Everyone, run towards Biurde! We're going to gather there!"
At almost the same time all the remaining people said the same. "Alright!"
No one questioned anyone's decision-making as they learned to trust each other. Even if one was making a somewhat dumb decision they still followed trying to turn it around.
As everyone ran as fast as they could the Kashura went into the air again watching the humans. Most of the people should've been worn out until now but the royal military was a different breed. Specialized in long, heavy battles they built up amazing stamina over the past decade.
Fortunately the monsters didn't bother attacking and decided to let the humans gather. Just around 15 minutes later they met up with the reinforcements they'd been waiting for.
"Took you long enough soldiers", Lia said in a tone that expressed the fact she was superior. "Are you all prepared to fight against these creatures?"
"Yes ma'am!"
There was a rank amonst the military. Instead of using terms as leutnant, major, colonel and general using letters was a more simple option.
Royal guards, or rather the royal military was ranked S-SS. Then A rank soldiers, B and C ranks. Everyone below C was either still in training or didn't participate in anything combat related.
Of course there also was the king itself who's ranked couldn't even be simplified. If it were to be simplified it would probably be the letter X.
Without hesitation the Kashura began to attack and took around 20 more soldiers with them. Chaos was now overtaking the battlefield and people were running around wildly but Kizou only needed to shout something. Everyone knew what to do and suddenly structure was to be found once again.
The final part of the battle began.
