An entire, blue and semi-transparent screen was projected in front of Emyrs using the new skill Mind's eye to make the screen more real. Only he could see it but it didn't make it any less shocking. On it was his status.
Name: Emyrs Ambrose Baptiste
Race: Primordial Vampire (Unique)
Age: 200 (15)
Level: 6
Titles: Primordial
Bloodline: Primordial?
Generation: Originator
Clan: None
HP: 7000 / 7000 (semi-immortal)
MP: 10 000 / 10 000
"Where are my skills? What kind of introduction and character sheet is this? And why am I level 6? 200 years old?!"
[UI: Greetings, I am the personal User Interface for [Emyrs Ambrose Baptiste] and will answer questions at the User's request. Were those requests?]
At this point, Emyrs was only slightly stunned. Another voice in his head was nothing to cry about. This one was male and sounded like his own voice but with a slightly deeper tone.
"Yes, these are requests." He barely managed to keep the bitterness out of his tone.
[UI: The screen provided an introduction to your personal user interface. From here, the User, will be able...]
"Wait, wait, I don't know how I feel about being call a user. Use my name."
[UI: Understood. From here, Emyrs, will be able to view your status, skills, assets and other various functions.]
"Tell me about my skills."
[UI: Skill are accessible through the interface. Simply wish to go to your main menu.]
Emyrs did as he was told and felt a little goofy listening to the voice in his head but also a little cautious after his experience with the Overseer. A list popped up.
1: Status
2: Dilute Bloodline
3: Skills
4: Assets
5: Palace
6: Inventory
7: Synthesis
8: Attributes
"Great. Now there is more stuff I do not understand. Is this all there is though?"
[UI: I don't understand the question.]
"In the other novels I read on earth, the main characters didn't have to go from one menu to the next. They did not have a 'User Interface'. They would just say 'status' and they would be happy. I'm getting a headache just from looking at this."
[UI: I understand however those characters cannot do what I can do for you.]
"Explain..."
[UI: This is merely an introduction. Any of my many functions can be mentally activated not just your 'status screen'.] the Interface put an deep emphasis on the word 'many' as though it could do more than just show a User their own status and skills. Those were glorified mirrors with words and numbers instead or a reflection, of course the Interface did not say that.
"Okay so what about my level? In the game I was at level 100 and now I am at level 6! I mean I would like to be a little overpowered otherwise how am I supposed to survive here?"
[UI: When you were reincarnated your original body was your game body but that body had a cap level. When you defeated that monster, you broke through those shackles to become a new species of vampire.]
"Fine but how will I survive?"
[UI: Gain experience and Level up...] The Interface spoke as though it's talents were being wasted.
"Don't get cute. I know I need to level up but when I fought that...that...what was that monster?" Emyrs had tried to be calm but his mind replayed the event and he felt overwhelmed.
"I almost died. I'm a vampire. Am I not immortal?"
[UI: Immortal is another word for 'Hard to Kill'. Kill weaker races and grow stronger by drinking their blood till you at least 'Harder to Kill'.]
As much as Emyrs wanted to snap back, he knew the Interface had a point.
"What about my age? I'm not 200."
[UI: Physically, you are. You appear sixteen due to your vampiric physiology but you are two hundred. Your soul is older than the universe though that may cause problems in future. You were hung in orbit and put in a light sleep that lasted two hundred years while a rapid cooling of the planet's surface occurred.]
"You're joking..."
[You were sent down late enough that you weren't going to be fatally wounded by the harsh environment but soon enough for you to gain strong resistances as well. Someone really doesn't want you to die.]
"Why do you say that?" Emyrs was genuinely puzzled.
[UI: Your body has an extreme adaptation ability and seems to be constantly evolving and improving itself at an appalling rate.]
"Meaning what exactly?"
[UI: You may not be immortal in the way you hoped but death won't come easily to you either. Through repeated actions, trials and tribulations, your body will overcome them with time...as long as you survive long enough that is.]
"Anything else?"
[Drowning. The lack of oxygen, for example cause you no issues. Your body goes into a hibernation state till the conditions for awakening are met.]
A devilish smile appeared on Emyrs' face as he remembered the Overseer's promise. At least there might be some benefits to this.
"Please show me my skills." Emyrs asked. The skills were shown in different categories ranging from normal skills called World skills to Game skills which he had obtained in the game but there were new skills he didn't understand.
"What are variant, unique and ultimate skills?"
[UI: Variants are skills that are born from a more powerful skill but act with a different purpose. Powerful skills can branch out and offer new or additional data for me to draw out new skills with the parent skill as a base. Can normal status menu's do that?]
"So unique skills are what then? Skills that only I have?" Emyrs asked ignoring the question the Interface had asked.
[UI: Correct, due to each individual being their own entity there are those who develop skills suited to them. There are those who can have skills that do similar things but the results will differ in terms of power and efficiency.]
"I see. So in the world of skills, not all are made equal. What about Ultimate skills?"
[UI: If variant skills are the children, then ultimate skills are the ancestors. I advise, Emyrs to not fight any creature with a mastery of one or more Ultimate skills. There are no similar skills in the ultimate category. You may find yourself out gunned and outclassed.]
There was no hint of mockery in the Interface's tone. It was deathly serious. Emyrs would have to be careful in this world till he raised his level and evolved a few more times.
[I will have to grind levels till I'm exhausted. I really have nothing better to do.] Emyrs wanted to check out his skills and attributes but then remembered that he was naked!
"Open the inventory!" The Interface obliging open the inventory. There were lots of items there but Emyrs immediately went to the 'Armour' section.
