Chereads / Delphine of Moria / Chapter 41 - Desirable Things

Chapter 41 - Desirable Things

A few hours later, Delphine and Simon were back in their hotel rooms, where they took off their armor and placed their weapons next to them. The sun was already up, and the people were already awake to start the day and live their daily lives. The bishop and the priests were told of the downfall of the cathedral night creature by Harry and Sid. Then, Simon watches outside as some of the people he saw yesterday were either not around or stayed in their homes. Delphine was already in her black corset and could not feel any of the cuts or scars she received while fighting the mighty beast.

"Simon, there's a bathing room in this inn, and I'm going to take a bath. Can you be in charge of this room?" Delphine asked.

"Of course," Simon answered.

"Good. I'll be back in about ten minutes," she said. Then, she walks towards the door and exits her room as she hears some of the people already being awake.

Simon was left alone in the room. He and Delphine were still renting as they remained in the holy city. Nobody was left to bother the two of them, and the people did not have anything to say or ask them. After all, this was going to be their last day in Gisbourne before they journey forth to the misty mountains. Then, Simon looks down at himself and tries to think about all that has happened in the burial room of the cathedral. He did not know it was possible that Delphine would be powerful enough to have the power of darkness overtake her.

Then, he started to talk to himself, saying, "What does this all mean? Delphine's actions and words. Those devilish eyes and that rage. Nothing makes sense. What kind of power is that? I've never seen it before!"

He felt his head and knew that he had no choice but to learn from Delphine and understand how she can do so many things that he cannot. He also knew that she could not keep those secrets to him forever, and he would do anything to make himself know more about the ebony knight. It was tough to convince her to tell him everything because of how much damage she could do to herself if she shared her feelings towards another person. Simon understood that he had his sword with the miracle of the mysterious marbles; he could do almost anything with his blade thanks to Lagertha's power.

Eleven minutes have passed, and Delphine still has not returned from the large room where she was taking a bath. Then, Simon realizes he has the opportunity to speak with her about the things concerning himself on the journey. He leaves the room with the room key in his pocket, and he walks to the bathing room where it was downstairs in the inn. As he walked, he could hear some of the people talk about what has happened at the cathedral last night. Word gets around really fast in the holy city, and the citizens were rapid in receiving it.

Then, he walks downstairs to where the bathing area was, and he thought of nothing else but speaking with Delphine. He then opens the door and saw a massive body of water running from the entrance to the other side of the room. On the walls were a few paintings of men and women bathing and showing love to each other. There were a few pillars of the room that had towels for those who were done taking a bath. Delphine turns around and saw Simon standing behind the door, and she was not embarrassed about seeing him.

"Simon?" Delphine asked.

"Hey. I was just wondering if you were done or not," Simon answered. Delphine was just sitting inside the water with her arms resting on the side of the tub, and her clothes were lying beside the door.

"Never mind. Forget I saw anything. I'll go back," he said. Simon turns around to walk back to the room they rented and wait for Delphine to finish.

"Wait. You can stay if you want," Delphine said. She looked down at herself as she said this, and Simon turns back around at Delphine just when he was about to leave.

Obviously, he wanted to stay and be with his comrade until noon comes, and he closes the door and makes sure nobody watches him. Indeed, Delphine was the only person who took a bath in the morning while everyone else preferred to do it in the evenings. Then, Simon takes off his clothes and lays them beside Delphine's clothes, and he had nothing else to do in the morning other than just wait. Delphine slightly turns around and watches Simon without his clothes and quickly looked at the ceiling with her eyes squinting.

"Oh, you want to take a bath as well?" Delphine asked.

"I am. Don't wanna smell dirty after not doing it for a while," Simon answered.

"Join me then," she said. Then, Simon walks to the other side of where Delphine was sitting down with the water covering her bare body.

Delphine and Simon were looking at each other and were sitting at opposite sides of the massive tub. Then, they were both relieved to feel the warm water and felt satisfied to have a long moment of peace with each other. Simon's face is a little red after seeing such an attractive woman without her clothes on and allowing himself to see only a quarter of her body.

"Are you enjoying yourself, Simon?" Delphine asked.

"I am. Nothing like being in this place after such a long night," Simon said.

"I wanna know about something. And I think only you can tell me because I don't trust anyone else," she said.

"Don't worry. I'll try my best to answer any question you got. I promise I won't tell anyone."

Delphine began to think about something she wants to tell Simon, and she moves her head closer to him. She could tell just by looking at him that he had a charming face and a handsome man to be around.

"Are you enjoying this place? Is this city a place you would like to visit again?" Delphine asked.

"Well, the food here is quite nice, the inn here is much better than the one from last time, and the citizens are easy to get along with," Simon said.

"But do you like it here? That's what I'm asking you. I might ask you something else. In return, you can ask me anything," she said.

"Yes, I like Gisbourne."

"Okay, then. Well, do you have anything you'd like to tell me?"

Simon could have asked her the same thing she asked him, but they would just repeat themselves on an endless cycle. He wanted to be reasonable with her and desired to communicate with her on many topics regarding the world and her skills.

"Of course, there is something I want to ask you. How is it that you do so well with your travels, and you're able to tell what's ahead of you?" Simon asked.

"What do you mean by that?" Delphine asked.

"You know, you've told me that you could walk for an entire day and never get tired of it. You even told me that you'd been a hunter at heart for many years," he said.

"But you want to know more, don't you? You believe only I can give you all the answers you desire. You think I can immediately come up with a solution to a problem you're having without having a second thought. You don't even get to tell any of the priests what you're feeling. There's a reason why there are these sessions in the cathedral where you ask a priest if you can confess. But, you only come to me with all your problems and expect me to answer every one of them."

"Well, if you want to put it that way, sure. Maybe I am a bit too curious about a lot of things. The reason is that I had nobody around me to teach me anything. There wasn't anybody in my village who could answer me or tell me what I am to expect in life. I'm not anyone special, and I have no desire to grow fame and be a hunter. I became a hunter because I had that burning desire to start a family and build a home somewhere, and all of that was taken from me."

"I feel your pain, Simon. I've been up all night the day before yesterday, and the pain was the only thing I could feel. It just doesn't seem fair. It's not fair to watch you suffer, go through it, and slap a smile on your face. I believe I can make you feel better. I can help you with your sadness and be proud of yourself."

"You can do that? Sorry, I'm not sure why I even asked you that question in the first place."

"Simon... sit down with me."

He was acting a bit surprised as to why she would tell him to sit next to her despite none of them wearing any clothes. They were both feeling a lot better when they were inside the water, and none of them could think of something off-topic. Simon slowly gets up and moves towards Delphine to see what more she can tell him about herself.
