The overflowing power of darkness was increasing in Delphine's body as she kneeled before Simon and the two knights. Simon was very confused by everything that Delphine was saying to him, and he could not lift his hands up to calm her down. Little did they know the night was almost over, and there was no more need for bloodshed. But then, Sid pulls out his sword and holds onto it as he understands that Delphine is becoming a creature beyond redemption. She was still breathing very slowly and could not control the way her heartbeat keeps increasing; her soul was far too demented to be pure.
"Sid, what do you think you're doing!?" Simon shouted.
"I'm gonna have to put you down, Delphine!" Sid said.
"Yes. Do it. Push that sword into my heart!" Delphine said. The knight had an unexpected reaction on his face when she told him to kill her and end her pain.
Then, Sid looked at his sword and could not look at the other direction and refuse such a great offer. The only thing that kept him back from killing her was the fact that she saved him during her first battle with the powerful creature. Then, Sid raised his sword and had no other choice, and there was no other option to be had. Simon could not bear to see his one and only friend suffer a terrible death, and he refused to believe this to be a merciful act.
"Sid, no! No, don't do this!" He shouted.
Then, Delphine spoke to Simon, saying, "Simon, I'm sorry. I can't stop it. I'm turning into a demon! I told you this, the more I use my power, the closer I am to become a beast. It's not always slow. Sometimes it happens all at once. This time I used too much demonic power when I was mentally and physically exhausted. Now the change has started, and I can't control it. I asked father Edward to take care of you. Sorry, but you're on your own now."
Simon could not say a word about the fact that this might be the last time he sees her alive.
"I'm glad we spent some time together. Farewell," Delphine said. Simon refuses to back down and let all of this happen; he denied everything that Sid was about to do to the ebony knight.
Then, he kneels behind Delphine, and he wraps his arms around her chest and squeezes her. She could feel his warm body cling onto her as her life was about to be brought to an end. Of all the things that he has ever done, Simon would not allow himself to cloud this terrible night into his thoughts.
"Simon, leave! Get away! I can't control my body for much longer! You'll be killed!" Delphine shouted. Her body seemed to be getting stronger by each passing minute, and the flow was increasing to the point where it seemed unbreakable.
As she was kneeling, the ground itself began to crumble, and her ebony boots were strong enough to tear the floor open. Delphine was still breathing very slowly, and her demonic eyes were staring at Harry and Sid and began to have other thoughts about them.
"Get away from me, Simon. Hurry. Before I lose control. Go!" Delphine shouted.
Then, Simon replied, "Being with you was the best thing that has ever happened to me in a long time. My family got killed. My city shunned me out. They even called me a traitor for not being with them at their most excellent hour of need. Everything I knew, everything I loved, I lost it all at once. That's what satisfies me. I'm happy I could travel with you. To have someone to be with. You always said you weren't kind. But you were more helpful to me more than anyone.
"That's why I don't want anybody else. You're my friend, aren't you? That's why if you die, I'm going with you!"
The way he spoke began to make Delphine's spirit see the light of day and remember what it was like to be loved by someone. Suddenly, she could not feel herself succumb to the darkness she swore to hunt down. Her brutal strength seemed to decrease, and it no longer appeared as if she could become a creature of terror. Then, the ground began to shake, and stones started flying everywhere as the solid floor is crumbling. Harry gets knocked back by one of the large rocks, and Sid noticed that he could no longer deliver the killing blow.
It mostly had to deal with the fact that Simon always cared about the ebony knight and would lay down his life for her. A few seconds later, Harry pushes the boulder away from him and realized there was a lot of smoke where Delphine and Simon were at. Through the puffy clouds of the smoke, no harm seemed to come from Delphine and Simon, and everything seemed to go back to normal slowly. Delphine had her eyes closed because she thought Sid would kill her and lift the curse that inflicted the city of Gisbourne. She then opens her eyes, and they were no longer demonic, and her pupils were not vertically slanted anymore.
Delphine turns her head and looks at Simon and began to act like a human again; her devilish stature was no longer visible to be seen. She felt surprised, yet satisfied with being part of reality once again, and she knew her life on earth would not end anytime soon.
"The power... it stopped," Delphine said. Simon sees her and saw that she was already a human even though she has a demented soul inside of her body.
"Delphine, are you alright?" Simon asked.
"I'm alright. We're done here," she answered. There comes a time when her power unlocks, and she's unable to find herself in reality and act as if she is in limbo.
Harry and Sid knew deep within themselves; they could not stand a chance against Delphine any longer, and they no longer wished to fight her. Sid puts his sword back into his sheath, and he helps Harry up from the floor as he fell unconscious.
"Enough. I'm done standing around with my sword while the creature is now back to where he belongs," he said. Delphine gets herself up from the floor and puts her greatsword in her sheathe, and she strolls towards Harry and Sid.
"Don't give me that surprised look. You didn't turn into a demon. That's all I'm saying. You were saved, in the end by that man," Sid said.
"Well, I guess I don't need to deal with you any longer. I'm done with these mindless duels," Harry said. Simon follows Delphine as she was walking towards Harry to say something to the knight and get some sleep.
"I suppose I have a lot to say to the priests. I apologize for being a waste of your time," Delphine said.
"Oh, don't worry about it. I will be the one to do all the talking. You can go and do whatever you want. We all just need to rest ourselves for a bit," he said.
"What will you be doing when I'm gone? I wonder if it's more scouting and hunting for trespassers," she said.
"Well, that and I got a bunch of things to tell all the people who stay in the mead halls. I'm sure this will be a story worth telling. I think once I'm done with all of that, I might have a lady by my side and many other comrades on joining me in raids and hunts. After that, I don't know where to go or what else to do once the holy city is back as it once was many years ago. It won't be long until the day comes when all of the evil that lurks in this world is gone and sent back to whence it came. I have faith that you won't fail your task on your journey."
"Thank you, Harry. I'll certainly remember this conversation. But, if I ever come back here and decide if I want to stay for a few days, I'm sure the people will recognize me. And some who are still alive might see me as their hero and the one who can beat any demon standing in her way."
"You've earned the right. Your strength and honor are apparent to all. There shall be songs, poems, and tales written all about you and your adventures."
Then, Delphine takes a few steps forward towards him and holds out her hand to shake his hand. It was at this time when Delphine wanted to be friends with Harry and hope they do not fight against each other again. Then, he takes her hand and slightly shakes it as Simon and Sid watched them grow a friendship with each other. And so, the long night is over, and the fear of the mighty creature was no longer a problem because the evil lurking in the cathedral has been destroyed.
