Nobody in their right mind would dare speak a word about the things that emerged last night; the battle kept so many people awake all night long.
"Delphine. I need to know the truth. Did you do it? Did you defeat the powerful demon of the cathedral?" Simon asked. Delphine was at a loss for words, and she could barely keep up with whatever it is Simon was wanting with her.
Even though she was in so much discomfort, Delphine was still able to talk and check her surroundings like she always did.
"I'm sorry. But, no. I couldn't kill it. It ran away from me. It returned to the shadows and I couldn't keep up," she said. Simon became disturbed and shocked by her answer; he had hoped that she would do this difficult task, but it seemed that even more problems were starting to occur.
"Then... it was all for nothing. It seems now that everyone is against us. Some holy place, this is," Simon said. Then, Delphine began to walk back towards Simon to be with him for the rest of the time when she is in the inn.
Before she could say anything to him, she felt the bruise on her stomach and chest, and she went down on her knees. Simon gets up from the floor and runs over towards Delphine and tries to figure out what is happening.
"Delphine, what's wrong?" Simon asked. She was holding her breath and squinting in pain as she felt getting beat down exactly like yesterday.
"It... it's nothing," Delphine said.
"Delphine, you're talking as if something horrible has happened. Come on, talk to me!" He shouted. Delphine looks up at him and sees eyes that were in great distress and very worrying about how she acted.
She knew she could not keep it away from him, and she knew he would keep asking her the exact same questions as before.
Then Delphine said to him, "Those two... Harry and Sid. They... stood in my way. After that, I tried to fight off the demon hiding beneath the catacombs of the cathedral. And still, they got in the way... and they thought they could defeat the creature with me. The demon attacked me, punched me, and threw me around like a rag doll. Even if it seemed like I was defeating it, it never backed down... it still kept coming."
Simon looked at her and felt so disgusted by the fact that the two knights would even have the thought of being involved in such a task. There is so much about yesterday that Delphine could not let him know, yet she had no choice but to tell him.
Then Simon started shouting, saying, "Those idiots! Those scumbags! Those fat piles of trash! The next time I see one of them, I'm gonna beat the shit out of him! I'm gonna make them regret ever laying their hands on you! I'll never forgive them for what they did!"
"Simon, it's not worth it," Delphine said.
"What?" He asked.
"Even though I agree that they deserve a kick in the groin, they have a duty here in the city," she said.
"Wait. You kicked someone in the balls, before?"
"Hah. Yes, I did. About a month ago, someone in a bar wanted a bet against me. They said they wanted a match and if I lose, they take my sword. Unsurprisingly, I won that match and one of them gave me a large bag of coins. And that person who lost ran over and grabbed me, choked me by the neck, and preceded to take whatever valuable I had left. I turned around and kicked him right in the crotch.
"Everyone in that tavern thought I was crazy. They thought I slaughtered the guy because he couldn't get up. After I kicked him, everyone could hear it and backed away after I did what seemed necessary. I think I cracked one egg, or maybe all of them."
"Damn. Sure sounds like you had your moments. Is this why you never really get along with other people?"
"I get along with people. Some people out there just don't seem to care about anything I say or do."
"I'm sure there will be someone out there besides me who would actually care about the things you do for a living."
"Don't worry about it. Eventually, it'll be something you would have to get used to as well. You shouldn't worry about it too much. I've been walking on the earth long enough to realize how difficult life can be in the outside world. It's only redeemable quality is how high the bounty is and how far you can go to have some coin in your pockets. If you don't have anything else to ask me, then we can be on our way."
Simon walks over to the window and sees all of the people who were walking around and not speaking a word. It definitely seemed as if the recent incident has affected the way they live their lives in the holy city.
"Are you sure about this, Delphine? Are you quite certain you can still walk around?" Simon asked.
"I'll do my best. However... I could use a little help from you with getting my armor on," Delphine answered. Simon became puzzled by the way she spoke, but because of her condition, he knew he had to help out in some way.
A few moments later, she had her ebony boots on and looked at Simon, and she picked up the breastplate of her armor and hands it over to him.
"Do you mind? Help me put my armor on," Delphine said.
"May I?" He asked.
"Yes," she answered. He strived to think of something, but couldn't think of the proper way to think about it; it seemed like he wanted to think about what might happen if he did it the wrong way.
Then, Delphine turns around and Simon was behind her with the breastplate of her armor, and it seemed very bulky for him. He never carried so much weight for armor before, but he had to put it on her in a way that would allow her to move around with it.
"Be careful, okay? I'm still a bit under the weather," she said. Simon gulped as he stared at her long blonde hair, and he began to visualize other things for a few seconds.
Without hesitation, he swipes her hair to her right shoulder and slowly tries putting the first half of the armor on her chest. As she held onto the armor, Simon bends down to get the second half of the breastplate and it was also very heavy. The armor itself was about sixty pounds at best and it was heavier than a steel breastplate and even any piece of nordic armor. Simon told himself to stop hesitating and not give up on assisting her as the day keeps moving forward. He manages to get the second half of her armor attached to the first half and have it all tightened up.
It took him quite a while to make sure the armor stayed exactly intact, and much longer to get all of the pieces to stick together. Delphine's armor was unlike Simon's armor where he had only a few things he carried along with him along with his sword. About four minutes later, Simon managed to get everything about her armor attached from top to bottom. Simon took a deep look at her appearance to see if it was exactly as she intended as she walked on her journey. Then, he grabs Delphine's black cloak as she was putting her gauntlets on her arm, and he wraps it from her chest to her back.
He was finally done helping Delphine put her armor on so that they both can walk back to the cathedral. He started to feel relieved after doing something he never thought he would do as he walked with Delphine.
"Thank you," she said.
"No problem," Simon said.
"Now you can put on your armor and we can be on our way," Delphine said. Then, they said nothing else to each other, and Simon walks over to his equipment to get himself situated.
This time, it took only about two minutes for Simon to be ready; none of them had anything to do that would make them late. Delphine grabs her greatsword and puts it on her side as Simon was still getting situated and being prepared. And so, they both walked out of the inn and made their way towards the cathedral as the day was hastening on. People were starting to notice them as they were living their daily lives, and they looked at them as if they were sent by the devil himself. Unfortunately for them, Delphine and Simon lived to bring an end to the demonic invasions and hunt down whoever is responsible for these causes.
The old priest, Edward, was standing at the entrance doors and saw Delphine and Simon strolling towards him. Edward greeted them and allowed the two of them to come inside the cathedral so that they can have things to discuss in private.
