After Harry heard him say these things, he began to make his way somewhere else, and the night proceeded on. The knights and captain were still astonished by seeing the substantial demon up close and in person; truly, they were powerless to stand against it. The battle between Delphine and the massive devil would be told for many years to come, and none of them would ever forget how it happened. There was nothing else to be done for any of the knights at the moment: they simply stood there in fright. Sid knew he had way too much to explain to the other guards, and it would take him so long to go deep into the details.
Meanwhile, Delphine was walking very slowly back to the inn to stay with Simon as her battle has ended, unsuccessfully. As she walked, she proceeded to feel as if her rib cage and a few other bones have shattered from the fatal blows the demon gave her. Delphine had a bunch of difficulty breathing from fighting that monster; she held onto her abdomen and felt nothing but pain. She knew that maybe in a dozen hours, she might be back to normal because she had both wolf-blood and demon-blood inside her body. A few minutes later, she started to place her arm on one of the walls and needed some time to relax.
It's no good. My body's going numb. Those punches and the way he scratched my armor... definitely gonna feel that tomorrow. Delphine thought. Even her emotions couldn't save her from the trauma she's facing while walking back to her room.
Then, Delphine's vision began to be blurry and all she could see was anything that is up close and not far away.
"I need to rest. I... must get back. I... need... rest," she said.
There was nothing else that she could say about her injuries and cuts; all she could think about was her own failure. Eventually, she continued to walk forward and not stop for anything else, and she was getting so weary. So many blurry images and unimaginable things started to enter her senses; she began hearing voices that told her that she failed her duty to defeat the night creature of the cathedral. Delphine was prepared to answer any question from the priests but needed to be twice as capable to fight the powerful demon again. Then, Delphine finds herself standing before the inn that she and Simon were staying at.
Instead of walking inside to answer some questions from the innkeeper, she climbs up the building to where she jumped out from the window. Then, she jumps into the room and closes the window behind her; it was getting very cold in the night and the wind could already be felt inside of the room. Delphine saw Simon already being asleep on the bed and all of his things were beside the table. She could feel her heart pounding very rapidly, and she couldn't control the fast movement as she started to take off her armor. What she truly needs above anything is to get lots of rest and get ready for a brand new day in the afternoon.
To prevent herself from pushing too much, she takes off her armor very, very slowly until she makes it down to her boots. All she could see on her body was nothing but large bruises and cuts that could easily kill a common person. The power of the Wolf Queen and the grim reaper kept her from the brink of death and from ending her own life. She could not unsee any of the places where she got punched, shoved, and nearly clawed to death. Delphine gently places her armor next to Simon's armor and puts her sword by the wall next to the door.
Miraculously, Simon could not hear any of the painful sounds Delphine was making as she took off her armor. A few seconds later, she walks towards the window and watches the sun slowly rising behind the hills that were miles away from the city. The clouds in the sky were covering most of the sky, but the sun still managed to rise above them. Then, she turns to the door to make sure that nobody would come in to interrupt them while everyone was getting up. She places her arm on her stomach and felt herself burning up, and she felt nothing but frustration in her mind.
And so, Delphine slowly gets onto the bed and starts to fall asleep with Simon sleeping next to her; she slept on the other side without having him look at her. It would be quite embarrassing if he immediately opened his eyes and reacted to everything that has happened to her body. Every five or six minutes, she had to make sure he wasn't opening his eyes and not gazing at her back. Delphine didn't want Simon to see her tortured body and be afraid of what might happen to himself; it would be unnerving for her to see that happen. Then, Delphine closes her eyes and drifts away to sleep as the morning sun vanquished the night.
A few minutes later, Delphine starts to be in this nightmare where she is running away from something coming after her. She was running on the seemingly endless trail in a dark forest where so many trees were falling down behind her. It was a giant demonic werewolf that was chasing after her, and he showed his fangs, and his red eyes were gazing upon his prey. Delphine continued to run from the carnivore and make sure that the trees don't fall down and kill her. As she ran, Delphine could hear voices saying her name and calling her from the shadows as they were also chasing her down the path.
She didn't have her armor on and didn't have her sword with her; she had only her black corset, black pants, and black boots. Eventually, she made it towards the edge of a cliff and stops running away, and she turns back to the forest. She knew she could not run back to the forest where the demonic wolf was trying to hunt her down. She slowly walks back to the forest and tries to find somewhere to hide from the gigantic carnivore; she wished that she had her sword to defend herself. Suddenly, she hears Simon calling her name from behind, and she slowly turns around to see why he was saying her name.
Then, she notices that Mephiles, the Demon Wolf, was holding the young hunter by his neck and choking him to death. He had the same dark, grimy eyes that he had when he first encountered her at the castle of Eastmarch. Then, the giant wolf came walking towards Delphine and made her unable to run away, and she had to figure out a way to save Simon from Mephiles. She looks at him and begins to be filled with so much fury against him; her eyes were focused on him as if looking at a longtime rival.
"TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF HIM!!" She shouted. Delphine tries to run towards Mephiles, but the giant demonic wolf pinned her down and made her watch everything.
Delphine tries, very desperately, to escape the wolf's grasp and was only becoming even angrier at the Demon Wolf.
"Delphine!" Simon shouted.
"Let him go! LET HIM GO!!" Delphine shouted. But, Mephiles could not listen to a word that she said to him; his eyes got even bigger and more demonic.
Then, Mephiles pulls out his greatsword made of wolf bones and nordic steel, and he points the tip of the sword to Simon's back.
"Stop! NO, STOP!!" Delphine shouted. Her boiling anger, her screams, and her strength could not save her from the wrath of Mephiles.
Then, with everything inside of him, he uses his greatsword and pierces Simon in the back, and he made her witness everything that is happening. Before anything else could happen, the vision ends and Delphine quickly opens her eyes and starts breathing heavily. Simon was already awake and was very worried about her, and he is trying everything he can to calm her down.
"Delphine? Delphine, are you okay?" Simon asked. Delphine sits there and looked at Simon as he was kneeling down beside her and holding her hand to calm her down.
"Delphine, you were having a nightmare. Is everything alright? You seem troubled," he said. But, all she could do is watch him and be thankful that the tragic dream has not happened; she had a feeling that it most likely will.
"If there is anything you need, please let me help," Simon said. He was talking to her like a friend, and he wanted to assist her in any way he could as he followed her.
Then, Delphine places her hand on Simon's arm and rests her head on his shoulder; she was very nervous and afraid of what might happen to him if he continued to follow her. If there was anything that she ever wanted with him, it was to make sure that she did the best she could to defend and protect him.
"I... just need to be here. I... just need to be here for a little while," Delphine said. Then, she gets up from the bed and releases Simon's shoulder, and she walks towards the window.
It is already an hour before noon and the city of Gisbourne was silent after being told of the seemingly endless battle that occurred inside the cathedral.
