Chereads / Delphine of Moria / Chapter 24 - Butcher of Gisbourne

Chapter 24 - Butcher of Gisbourne

The powerful creature refused to back down, even though he was losing a lot of blood and the strength to continue fighting.

"You have the power that's twice as strong than any man I've faced before. I can see you have the sum total of your power at my disposal. All of it... and more," the demon said. Delphine started to see that this creature was very smart and cunning, and she understood what he meant about her power.

"So, even you know of the power I have inside of me. Then, you should also know that I can't let you stand in my way," Delphine said.

"I have seen it... I have felt it rush into my bones and witnessed the mighty strength force itself into me. For many years, I have waited for such a mortal to face me in combat and still live to tell the story. Finally, that day has come!" He said.

"If you know me, you know I can't let you leave here alive. You should know above all others that I live to hunt down every demon and their masters. Humanity doesn't need such filthy creatures like you. Truly, I have power and so do your masters. Tell me where they are and I will make this quick."

"My masters? You will never find them. You will die trying. Everyone who followed me in the past will not cease to drag you back to Hell."

"You're right. I can't find them, but not without you telling me. Before I'm done with you, you will tell me everything I need to know. Even if I have to crush every bone in your body."

"These people should've kept you where you belong. I'll do it myself if it's so impossible for these townspeople. Their day of judgment is already beginning. And you can't stop it."

"You threaten these people with slavery and death. You come through these doorsteps and act as if you are these people's salvation. But really, you live to bring them agony and pain."

"They are nothing but children. Your god and all the other gods have abandoned them. We are here to rule over them since no god can truly save them. Not even you can save them."

"I've heard enough from you. For this city and its people, you die!"

Then, the powerful demon lifts up his fire blade and starts releasing fireballs, and he began shooting at Delphine. She held her greatsword with both hands and prepares to either block or dodge the incoming fire. Delphine's sword was crafted to deflect all sorts of magic and weaponry, and she always lived to talk about it. Then, one fireball starts coming towards her, and she easily blocked it with her massive blade. The powerful demon started to be utterly surprised by the fact that Delphine can deflect hell-fire.

The creature started to run out of ideas to kill his enemy; he tried every method he could think of and every possible solution to put Delphine out of her misery. Then, he lifts up his sword again and pierces the ground by the tip, and twice as much fire began to spread forward. He saw that Delphine also pierced the ground with her sword to block the raging fire from frying her skin. Then, Delphine kneeled down to not let herself be engulfed by the fire, and she held onto her sword as it was deflecting the flames. It was not possible to be protected from such power that comes from a strong being who served only the darkness.

But, Delphine's ebony greatsword could withstand almost anything that a swordsman would throw at her. Her sword was crafted through the bones of an elder wolf, which became useable with metal and nordic steel. The bones itself was blessed by the king of the elder wolves himself, and the wielder could be challenged against all odds and survive all of those encounters. Then, she gets up and pulls her blade from the ground and starts walking towards the powerful demon. As she walked, the night creature starts casting more fireballs from his sword and begins shooting at Delphine again.

The demon needed to make sure his opponent burns to ashes and continue his raid on the city, but Delphine still blocked and deflected each ball of fire without flinching. The demons and all who served the night were always her enemies; she swore to eradicate all unholy mortals and immortals from the world. Then, the powerful creature had enough and starts charging towards Delphine to cut her down. He was just more determined than ever to kill his enemy who killed his kind for a thousand nights. He held onto his fire blade and stood ready as Delphine was simply walking towards him and had a serious look on her face.

Delphine began to swing her sword at the powerful creature as he kept his distance and tried not to fall down. He and Delphine fought on the roofs of one of the taller buildings of the holy city, and they both used every energy they had left. Delphine swings her greatsword around as the demon deflected most of her attacks and blows. He knew that he couldn't keep dodging her attacks for much longer as most of his energy was already fading away. Then, he started swinging his blade around and began using the same moves as Delphine did.

Unfortunately, even that didn't work for him because Delphine was jumping around and dodging every single attack. Delphine's endurance was stronger and already higher than the powerful demon's endurance. Delphine parries his attacks and starts slicing parts of the demon's body and more blood started falling and staining the roof. Suddenly, the demon loses balance and Delphine gets herself into a position, and she swings her sword and the demon's fire blade flies off from his hand.

"It seems like you're having way too much fun. And it appears that I now have the upper hand," Delphine said.

"Impossible. Who... who are you?" The demon asked.

"I am the one who is feared by all of her enemies. And one who lives and dies by the sword. Now, your lords and masters. Tell me where they are," she said.

"Over my dead body!"

"It would be a poor choice for me to force my hand into action. You will tell me where they are. Tell me now!"

But, the powerful demon remained silent and could not speak a word as he was coughing up a bunch of blood. Delphine's patience was running severely low as she stood before her opponent; he was already on the brink of death and could barely make a move.

"I don't have time for this," Delphine said. Then, she goes over to the demon and stabs him in the chest, and she digs the blade deep into his body.

"Where are they?" She asked. But, the demon was still silent, and he was still struggling with his words and tried to pull himself away from Delphine's sword.

Then, she pushes her sword all the way into the demon's body until the upper half of the blade passes his back.

"WHERE ARE THEY?!" Delphine shouted. The demon started puking out blood and it stained her arm and her two-edged blade.

"You'll find... one of them... in the northern... mountains. After that... see if he knows... where the other ones are!" The demon shouted. After he said this, so much blood and gore started coming out of his chest, his mouth, and his back as Delphine received a clue.

"Die, knowing that I will hunt down and kill every last demon and all their masters on this cursed earth. Every... last... one of them," Delphine said. And with all of her fury and strength, she pulls out the sword from the demon's chest and leaves him open.

Delphine watches as the upper-half of his body flies away with his intestines spewing all over the rooftop. She sees that her work is done, and the evil that crept in the holy city of Gisbourne has been driven away. The night continued on, but the blood which stains the moon is no longer visible. Delphine knows that there won't be any more demons coming her way for the rest of the night. She shakes the blood of the dead beast off of her blade, and she puts it back to her scabbard.

Then, Delphine runs back to her hotel room as everyone else in the city was asleep, and nobody recognized her running on the rooftops. She ran as if the wind strongly blew towards her, and she remembered the location of where one of the demonic masters were hiding. She had a lot of information to tell the priest and what else to tell Simon; for now, he was the only friend she ever had. She had to prepare herself for the many trials ahead for her as she walks the long, dark road.
