Dean O'Sullivan returned to sober several minutes after his wife left, the explosion had already caused the damage and luckily, he wasn't injured except the little cuts on his cheekbone were counted, he stood up in a shaken state, and walked crumbly outside, met Lewis who was waiting for him fretfully, had no clue of what had happened inside. She asked, but all he did was shake his head.
Seeing Velika O'Sullivan wasn't a surprise, of course, she would show up, it was in his schedule. But Dean O'Sullivan's objective placed him in a very delicate spot after he came back from visiting his wife, Astoria Leontes talked, or more like interrogated him, a woman who was bright like her could possibly sense the potential danger, she would love to trust Dean O'Sullivan and could make huge use of his intelligence and skills, but as the relationship between Dean O'Sullivan and Velika O'Sullivan was still complicated and unforeseen, Astoria Leontes couldn't give away her trust too easily. The fear of the O'Sullivans would bail on her and moved on to a new life haunted her, she had to ensure that she was the one and the only one in charge of the whole game. Simply and directly, she told him without any expression on her beautiful face that she didn't trust him, he had to prove his loyalty by blowing up the faculty of The Sinking Boat with Clarabelle Lewis, the poor woman who did nothing but trying to return the favor.
Death was never a fear of Dean O'Sullivan, but he did mind the way to die. After he was forced to leave Velika O'Sullivan, he just didn't care about death anymore. Before when he actually had a life, he tried to prevent all kinds of probable danger, even when crossed the road, Velika O'Sullivan mocked him so many times of his extreme caution. Later when he was away from her, he had this genuine feeling that part of him was gone, for a short time he thought life was meaningless, he lost something he cherished the most in his life. Then he changed, no more sentiment, no more caring, whatever he did, was only for his own benefit. However, once again when he looked into Velika O'Sullivan's dark eyes, his new perspective was fading, at first, he didn't want to contact her, he knew the best way to save himself was allying with Astoria Leontes, therefore he could gain more, but he was curious, he had to admit reluctantly that he missed her, much more than he could describe. And that was the reason for the first time in years, he went with his instinct, and he fell, she was a poison, still effective after years.
And that's why he was in such a tricky position, neither did Astoria Leontes nor Daniel Heinrich fully trusted him, and he didn't even know clearly what on earth he wanted. Definitely he could take Velika O'Sullivan away, and two of them could fight through a way to get a new start, but he wouldn't do it, since it was like he was building an empire, almost reach the top, he didn't want to throw it away. He was compelled to give up his dream career, now he had to make him known for what he was put into without even having a choice. Never a good sign when people wanted too much, Dean O'Sullivan was aware of this, but he couldn't help, he wanted fame and his wife, though he had the hunch that she wouldn't go back to him regardless of the fact she was probably in love with him.
Daniel Heinrich walked in, with a pistol in his hands and a squad behind, Dean O'Sullivan never took this German as a threat, not from any level. It was clear that Astoria Leontes wanted to get rid of Daniel Heinrich as soon as he finished his part in the show, he knew too much about her past, an absolute threat. For Dean O'Sullivan, he had to be an asset of Astoria Leontes and frame this man step by step.
Now he was entering a critical point, Astoria Leontes would lock him up as soon as they returned to Natural. It was all up to Velika O'Sullivan now, if she came to save him, Daniel Heinrich would be framed as a mole in Natural who helped the rogue agent. If she didn't come to him, there were two possibilities for Dean O'Sullivan, first, he might pass Astoria Leontes' test, he didn't tell Velika O'Sullivan about the plan, second, he would die since Astoria Leontes might sense he collaborated with his wife and informed her this was a trap to catch Daniel Heinrich.
After all, the woman named Astoria Leontes was the boss at the moment.
Just as what he thought, the boss locked him into the basement, with two guards on duty 24/7, he was chained and there was no chance to escape unless he knew the code to unlock the chain, that wasn't too bad, he rose his eyebrow, and then what used his action to declare he was with Velika O'Sullivan.
"What's the reason for this?" He questioned Astoria Leontes when she came down to see him, with Daniel Heinrich along her side, why there were so many dramas, he thought to himself, "You think I told Velika about the explosion?"
"Why do people do anything?" She curled her lips, "Just for insurance."
"I didn't tell Velika about this operation," He gritted his teeth with anger, observing Daniel Heinrich's expression carefully, "Have you ever think there's a mole in your division?"
There it was, Daniel Heinrich sneered inside his heart, did they really think he was stupid and couldn't figure out their tricks? Everyone in this division was working for his or her own advantage, everyone had to survive, so did he. Daniel Heinrich never believed in Dean O'Sullivan, that man was ruthless, he only played the game that benefited himself, and never fair to others. That's why he would help Astoria Leontes frame Daniel Heinrich as a mole, or some mutant that wanted to start another revolution to topple her sovereignty. But Daniel Heinrich didn't show any of his thoughts, he remained extremely calm like they were talking about the weather.
"That's something you don't need to worry about." Astoria Leontes said, took a sip of her coffee, left the paper cup marked by her red lipstick "And if there was a mole, I'll figure it out."
"So, what am I now? A decoy?" Dean O'Sullivan sneered, he hated every word came out from his mouth, "You want Velika to come?"
"You are smart, O'Sullivan," Astoria Leontes smiled, and said slowly, "Okay, Heinrich, why don't you have a little chat with your old friend, I have other things to handle."
She left and closed the door behind, Daniel Heinrich squinted her eyes and wonder what she was up to, did she have a plan with Dean O'Sullivan? She was so calm when she saw Velika O'Sullivan came in the picture, unnaturally calm, and didn't give any order to Dean O'Sullivan to direct the operation. Daniel Heinrich recalled what he did these days and didn't find any fatal flaws in his plot, must be something wrong, he needed to be more careful now. Much more careful, he felt he was walking on the blade, any small mistakes they caught could be used as a deadly one.
"Do you have anything to say?" Daniel Heinrich said leisurely, seemed like they were in a small bar, drinking beer and talking about work, "If you don't, I think I shall leave."
"Heinrich, at this point," He paused, used eye contact to inform Daniel Heinrich that their conversation could be heard, "You know what you did, have nowhere to hide."
"I have nothing to hide," Daniel Heinrich understood his point within a second, "I'm only a man works for his living."
"Are you?" Dean O'Sullivan mocked.
"Yes, but I'm not like you, I doubt you ever cared about anyone besides yourself." Daniel Heinrich said in a taunting tone.
"Well, I do care about someone." Dean O'Sullivan ignored the irksome tone he received, and still said peacefully.
"Who? Velika O'Sullivan?" Daniel Heinrich laughed ironically, "I know what you are up to, and I know her, she wouldn't make the same mistake twice."
"Wrong, and wrong." Now Dean O'Sullivan sneered, he just realized how much Daniel Heinrich despised him, of course, any sentimental man would think he was insane, "I'm not up to anything and trust me, you don't know Velika at all."
"Then who knows her?"
"I do." Said him with a smile on.
