With an extremely heavy mood, Daniel Heinrich was on his way back to Natural. It was the time to risk, hollow grasped his heart, he was like the balloon floating in the sky with no destination. When was the last time he acted so blind and all went with his hunch? Probably never. Saving Dean O'Sullivan would never be a good idea, but he had no other choices. Perfectly did he know, Dean O'Sullivan would cross him, sell him to Astoria Leontes, what would happen to him then? No clue, he never trusted that Irish, he was willing to risk because that man was Velika O'Sullivan's husband, she knew him better, and Daniel Heinrich believed in her. Twisted, why would he trust her? Perhaps he was desperate and in the need to assume someone was on his side.
How could he get Dean O'Sullivan out? He had to come up with a plan. Dean O'Sullivan was locked in the basement, chained, if he released him and told him the code to access the door, Dean O'Sullivan could easily take care of the guard, but the way from basement to main floor exit passed by several offices and definitely couldn't avoid all the people, which meant Dean O'Sullivan needed cover, but it wouldn't be so hard. Daniel Heinrich lifted one side of his lips, he was confident about his plan, but still, didn't have much faith in Dean O'Sullivan, this was a gamble, after all.
He picked up a newspaper when he passed a newsstand, the weather was getting cold and his fingertips were like ice. No wonder the front page was covered by the resurrection of Braddock, the head of Companion, it said the reporters found his in a small village, enjoying his 'death' and had a wonderful vacation. The assassination was faked and Velika O'Sullivan was an agent of Companion, the oil company was just a disguise, there were dirty business undercover and she was charged of the explosion of The Sinking Boat, now she was the top wanted.
Decent play. Thought Daniel Heinrich, Astoria Leontes arranged it very well, she regardless of the fact Velika O'Sullivan had breached in The Sinking Boat and tried to stop the explosion, and wisely turned it into a proof of Velika O'Sullivan's temptation. Why did Astoria Leontes wanted to take down her brother-in-law so badly? Daniel Heinrich couldn't really think through. Romeo Leontes must had some connection to her past, now she was on her revenge, she not only wanted Romeo Leontes out of the game, but also wanted his family business. She and Velika O'Sullivan were the same, that was why they collaborated with each other, but clearly didn't give each other much trust.
Then what about Dean O'Sullivan? That Irish was ambitious, from the fragile description from his wife, Daniel Heinrich figured Dean O'Sullivan was arrogance and wanted all. He had several reasons to work with Astoria Leontes, first, he had the chance to get power, second, he could win Velika O'Sullivan back, and last, he could also revenge the person who tore his life apart. Dean and Velika O'Sullivan were quite alike, but he was more hard-core than her, no matter who or what came into his way, he would cut them off without a blink. That didn't mean he had no feelings, he did have feelings, but he hid and buried them and he knew when was the appropriate time to use the emotions to achieve advantages. Unlike Daniel Heinrich, who had no choice but stayed in this game, Dean O'Sullivan chose to get involved. On the other side, Daniel Heinrich was part of the play at the very beginning when he was recruited in Companion, Astoria Leontes chose him, prepared him, made him the best and took use of him.
Nicholas Watson was busy on paperwork when Daniel Heinrich came in, he was so focus and when he heard his friend's voice, he almost fell down from his chair, he turned back and ready to yell, but then he found it was his ally, he controlled his temper.
"You scared me." Nicholas Watson said miserably.
"I'm sorry." Daniel Heinrich apologized, "But I really need your help."
"Name it, Germany." Nicholas Watson tried to make a joke, but neither of them laughed. So, Nicholas Watson cleared his throat and listened to Daniel Heinrich carefully.
After he finished explaining his plan, Nicholas Watson kept silence for about 30 seconds, he frowned and then curled his lips.
"You know there are other prisoners on the top floor," Said Nicholas Watson slowly, "What if I let the door open and ring all the fire alarms?"
"Then there will be big chaos." Daniel Heinrich finished Nicholas Watson's sentence, "And very risky. You may be exposed, even those technicians are not very bright, they can still trace you down."
"I know." Said Nicholas Watson, "What will be the worst thing? O'Sullivan crosses you, you get into that shell, I get caught and accompany you, well, not too bad, at least we won't die alone."
Daniel Heinrich laughed at this time. Before he thought that Nicholas Watson was only a nerdy field agent that could do tricks on computers, now he knew why Velika O'Sullivan would be friend with Nicholas Watson, he wasn't a nerd, he was a man knew exactly what was the right thing to do.
"Let's do this.' Daniel Heinrich patted on Nicholas Watson's shoulder, "I'll message you when I finished with O'Sullivan."
"Just one more question before you go," Said Nicholas Watson with curious, "You and Velika are together, right?"
"That depends." Said Daniel Heinrich with a wink.
Daniel Heinrich then headed to the basement where Dean O'Sullivan was locked, from now on each step was risky, his life was on the edge, he didn't know what to feel. Why would he put such danger to himself? Oh right, if he didn't align with the O'Sullivans, he was going to die anyway, he knew too much about Astoria Leontes' past, and she wouldn't keep him alive no matter what contribution he had for her.
When he entered the door, Dean O'Sullivan was hanging there, pale and exhausted, Daniel Heinrich went up to him, and when he heard the footsteps, he looked up.
"Why are you here, Heinrich?" Dean O'Sullivan frowned.
"Listen," Daniel Heinrich lowered his voice and said swiftly, "I talked to Velika and we decided what will do the best for all of us. I never unchained you and you didn't know the code of that door is 2431, I didn't tell you there is only on guard and it's really easy to evacuate from the back door as the alarm will ring in any minutes after I leave."
"Slow down," Dean O'Sullivan's mind was spinning really fast, within seconds, he already figured what their plan was, he couldn't believe Daniel Heinrich would do this, he whispered, "You know what's going to happen right?"
"Just do what I said and Velika will meet you two blocks away." Daniel Heinrich said hurriedly, he rolled up his eyes to where the camera was, Dean O'Sullivan quickly nodded, "We are running out of time."
Then he unchained Dean O'Sullivan and gave him a complicated look, Dean O'Sullivan held his arm and watched Daniel Heinrich left. This time the cautious Daniel Heinrich finally decided to take a bold move, he gave his faith to someone he never trusted. He must had had conversation with Velika O'Sullivan, since she trusted her husband, he had to take the most dangerous move to ensure his own safety. Dean O'Sullivan knew Astoria Leontes was going to kill Daniel Heinrich as soon as Romeo Leontes bit the hook. He admired Daniel Heinrich had the courage to step out of the box and finally teamed up with him, or more like teamed up with Velika O'Sullivan, and in Dean O'Sullivan's mind, Velika O'Sullivan supported her husband regardless of whatever cost her. There were times Dean O'Sullivan felt guilty that Velika O'Sullivan trusted him blindly with no question asked, even after they separated so long, but most of the time, he felt satisfied.
So, Dean O'Sullivan made up his mind in a flash.
About a second after Daniel Heinrich exited the door, Nicholas Watson received a message from him and started working on the computer program, he was an excellent hacker before he joined Natural. He still couldn't get straight why he chose to be a field agent at the first place, might because he hated people calling him a computer geek all the time, even he was a very skillful young man who looked nothing like a geek. And becoming a computer engineer never crossed his mind although everybody was asking if he would like to be one when he was in high school, but he chose medicine instead when he was in university, and that was how he met Velika O'Sullivan. They first met in the library when she got off work, waiting for Dean O'Sullivan's class to dismiss. Later, he heard about Natural, he applied for lab research but he found field was more interesting so he hacked into the system and changed his training program. Such a huge organization hired a bunch of mid-level technicians, what a shame, Nicholas Watson rose his eyebrow every time he thought of it.
