Jeffrey huh, so it was his name. I knew he was nerdy, but I didn't expect him to be that smart. I though he was just another otaku. It made me happy. And I said to my self, I will work hard. I know, Section B and Section A (where he was) never really was in good shape. Well, the reason behind that is kinda funny. Our room is just next door from his, so there always one student on look out if our principal is coming to check us. We are noisy in nature. So whenever the principal is coming, that look out always alert us as we arrange ourselves and stop making noises.
"What section is noisy?" Every time our principal ask, we always point out the section A, and they always get scolded. That is why both section doesn't get along. But when it come to competition, yeah they always win. Maybe that is why they are the first section.
Days past, and I have never had a single conversation with him. Although sometimes I saw him pass by our classroom and thats it. Until one day, I found out that he has a friend in my class, well friends to be exact. But what is more suprising, he was a friend of Andrei. They were both otaku, and an acolyte of the church. They were also a friends of Wong, which is also in my class. And because of that I often see him outside our room with them. Coincidence, I think not.
Every room in school has two doors, one in front and one in back. That afternoon, just after lunch, I decided to kill time while waiting my friends in the door at the front. Thats when we usually stay when killing time. At that time, it was too early for class, thats when I though, one glance is fine right. I kept on thinking whether to have a look at his room if he was there. I mean, just once, it wouldnt hurt right. I even convince myself that he hasn't still arrived in school. But I was wrong.
Just as I take a look at their room, he was there. Standing at the door, his hands in his pocket, like he always do. He was also looking at my direction. Yes, we had an eye contact. But unfortunately it didnt take long. Well, its kinda my fault, I looked away first. Heyy! If you had a crush on someone, can you look at him directly, eye to eye. I can even feel the nervousness inside my chest. And to be honest, until now, I still remember how it feels.
"Hey, Is Andrei there?" I was shocked! Literally shocked!! I know you know that feeling when you were in daze, can't speak clearly, it was like your body is in robot mode where you cant move normally.
"Uh, No" That is all I can say. I was totally dumfounded at that time. I was caught off guard! Can you blame me?
"Oh, right, Thanks " he said that with a smile. I was about to explode, my heart went too crazy. I follow him with my eyes as he goes back to his room. I was so happy! It was the first conversation we had after 2 months.
After that very moment, the distance between us lessen. Because his friends were my classmate, I often see him inside our room after our afternoon class. They always play chess and rubics cube. That time they still learning, and rubics cube were still a trend. One afternoon, when our group is in charge to clean the room, I saw a Andrei and Wong plays the cube. I went to them and ask out of curiosity how it works. They let me watch how they do it. They even teach me patterns but I cant even understand a single thing.
"Yow Drei!"
"Yow Jeff!" I shit! I totally forgot that they always come to our room after class. I was so engage in the rubics cube I even forgot about them. They went to out direction. Oh and Jeff was with Alex, his classmate and part of their group. Alex was the one who introduce rubics cube to them. And he was the best player among them.
"Yow Jewel!" Alex greeted me that time. Yes he knew me.
"You play cubes?" I just laught that time. I dont even know how to solve it.
"I can teach you some cool pattern where you can solve it in a very short time"
"Yeah sure!" Alex taught me some cool patterns at that time I can solve the first layer of the cube. It took me a while but it was very fulfilling.
"Hey Jewel, wanna join us, we have a short game next week. The loser will treat us snacks" You bet! I join them. It was not just for the reason that it was fun. But also because Ive got to play with Jeffrey. So I practice a lot. I train so much, recorded the time when I play. I even sacrifice my anime time just to practice it. I mean i dont want them to treat snack you know, HAHAHA.
And time has come, for us to know who is the fastest in solving the rubics cube. Alex of course, incharge for the timer. I mean he was so good. At that time his fastest time is 50 sec. (I cant exactly remember the time, but I know it was in between 40 -50 sec.)
Andrei went first and solved it in about 2 mins,Wong was about 10 sec. faster that Andrei that time. And it was Jeffreys turn. But suddenly he said that he wanted to go last.
" I think i forgot some pattern, Im gonna practice first" he said in excuse. So I have no choice but to play. Although I wasn't ready, yeah I was so nervous. My hand were sweaty that time. And we use same cube to solve. And then I was, solving the cube. My hands was slow, I even had some error and also that time pressure. I just sigh when Knowing my time. It was 4 min. I was so dissappointed. i mean i did well when I was at home practicing, why did I suck today. But as soon as I was ready my pocket because I know that I lose, Jeffrey went too far from my expectation. He had so many errors and his time went to 5 mins.
"Guess I forgot the pattern after all" He said tha while scratching his head. He was cute!!! And there was my overeacting head, thinking that he did on purpose to save me from spending. Hey! let the little girl dream once in a while. ( thinking back at those time, I cant imagine that I was so dramatic and over my head that time).
Few days later, it was class break, me and my friends went to the canteen to buy foods. There was no cafeteria at our school that time. So we eat inside our rooms. But as soon as I get back at my seat, there was a chukie and fugee bar in my desk. Not knowing who put it there. I ask my classmate if someone has the owner of the food.
"It was from Jeffrey, it was the free snacks from the game" Wong answered me. And that moment, I cant help but smile. I know he was really going to buy us food but I still cant help but smile.
"Jewel, wanna join us this saturday, we will have an anime marathon at Wongs place" Little do I know that I became part of their group. Well, we do play rubics cube after class and chess. But it never crosses my mind that they will invite me to watch anime with them. I was so happy!!!
How do they know I was an Otaku, Wong just saw me sketching Neji Huyga and Luffy in my notebook.
At that moment, there is only one thing in my mind.
"Im looking forward to Saturday!"
