Chapter 7 - Adventurer's Guild

I managed to find an Inn that night, and it was cheaper than I was expecting. Only 2 silvers, what a deal.

Current Balance: 80C, 13S, 0G, 0P.

I woke up feeling rested in the bed I had slept in the previous night. Oh how I've missed the luxury of modern society.

Checking the time, it was now 8:00am. It seems that wherever I am, time seems to coincide with that of Earth. That's a rather convienent parallel.

I need a source of stable income. It's not like I can just find a pile of scrap metal whenever I need some spare change.

"Might I suggest, registering as an adventure at the Dsor's Adventures Guild. From what I've observed, adenturers seem rather wealthy." Erythro suggested.

The adventurer's guild...alright there's no harm in trying. Checking my map, I found that the adventure's guild was not too far from me. It was about 2km away from the Inn.

Making my way outside, I stretched my body, adjusting my strength. I then began running at about 19kph (12mph).

This is a fairly normal pace. I looked up for a brief moment and was surprised to see multiple people are flying.

"How is that even possible?" I asked absentmindedly.

I wasn't surprised, only curious.

"There could be a number of causes. Wind magic, gravity magic, or even familiars among other things." Erythro stated.

"So that's how it is, you think we could fly like that too?"

"We would have to increase our mana pool, and learn several spells, but it is possible." Erythro stated.

I stopped running as the guild came into view and slowed to a brisk walking pace. It was a huge regal looking building. In the front, was a sword and shield logo engraved within the open doorway.

"System Update, please do not turn off device."

A window appeared directly in front of my field of vision.

I looked over my status in awe.

"Woah, this is just like an RPG."

"I used thousands of subjects I observed as a comparison scale for us to use. I'm constantly checking the status of our body, giving me a detailed analysis on our proficiency and capabilities." Erythro claimed.

"Appraisal sounds useful. And where did these attribute points come from?" I asked.

"Attribute points are the embodiment of unrefined mana, captured from various enemies we've slain. Once we've broken through a level threshold, we can utilize more attribute points. Using those points, I can focus efforts on boosting our abilities. The display was inspired by a videogame application on your phone." Erythro explained.

It makes enough sense for me to move on. I stepped inside the adventures guild eager to register.

Honestly, it kind of looks like a bar/resturant sort of business. There were various weapons and suits of armor placed articulately around the establishment like furniture.

There are people dressed like mages, holding staffs, and wearing robes with what seemed to be witch's hats. There were also some people full decked out in knight armor.

I walked up to a registration booth. There was a woman there, wearing something reminiscent of a flight attendent's outfit. She had redish-brown hair and narrow eyes with a slim figure. She reminded me of a model I would see on build boards back at home.

"I'm here to register as an adventurer." A few people turned their attention to me at this point.

"The registration fee is 1 gold accompanied by a basic aptitude test." She informed me while obviously forcing a smile.

I pulled 10 silver out of my bottomless pocket knowing that 10 silver is worth 1 gold.

I heard some people chuckle off to the side after I did this. I paid them no mind.

I handed the coins over.

Current Balance: 80C, 3S, 0G, 0P.

"Thank you very much sir, please follow me." She said in a pseudo cheerful tone.

As we walked she asked me several questions.

"Do you prefer the quick combat test, or the lengthy written evaluation?"

I'm not sure if I can even read or write yet in this world.

"I'll take the combat test."

"Are you a magic user, sir?"

"Hardly. I still haven't invested much time into it."

"What is your preferred means of combat?"

"Uh, hand-to hand."

"I understand."

I followed her to the back of the main room. She stopped infront of two large doors.

"Once you enter here, your testing adviser will be with you shortly. I wish you the best of luck." She said this as she performed a small bow of the head.

I thanked her and proceeded through the doors. Before the doors closed behind me I could overhear several conversations.

"Did you see that newbie?" A female voice said.

"Yeah, Lucian's gonna destroy him. He doesn't goes easy on anyone. His strength is the real deal." A male voice replied.

"Well, that's a B-Rank adventurer for you, poor mid." The other voice affirmed.

Their conversation came to close just as the doors behind me did.

The room I entered was completely white. There was a weapon rack by the door. I looked around for a bit before spotting a man in the middle of the room meditating while holding a wooden sword-shaped.

How did I not notice him? I stepped foward toward the middle of the room, not taking my eyes off him.

I opened my mouth to call out to him, but before I could, I was hit by a wave of terrifying pressure as the man opened his eyes.

"Combat Mode Initiated."

So this is my testing adviser, the B-Class adventurer, Lucian.

"A newbie? Very well."

I tried using appraisal, but I only recieved an error message.

"Error. Appraisal failed due to insufficient proficiency."

Lucian pointed his sword at me.

"I'm Lucian and you are?"

I feigned confidence.

"New Skill Obtained: Acting."

"Milo," I stated.

"Well then Milo, let's get started."

Erythro spoke to me once again.

"I'm afraid I can't offer too much assistance in this fight for fear of revealing our predicament."

"Alright, I understand," I said out loud to address both Lucian and Erythro.

I never took my eyes off Lucian or blinked for that matter, yet in a instant he was already in front of me.

His sword aimed at my left side with a diagnal slash which I narrowly avoided. I was taken aback by his sheer speed.

He made another swipe at my head, I managed to avoided it, but it was a feint. He spun around in the air flying over me and delivering an attack to my back.

For a moment, I had the wind knock out of me, but quickly regained my composure.

I was breathing a little heavy, Lucian hadn't even broken a sweat.

"You're able to keep up even with this speed. You've trained well Milo." He said this almost admiring me.

"Thanks," I replied.

He came at me again, I've adapted to his movement a little, so my dodging became a little better. It felt like I was parrying, deflecting and dodging multiple attacks at once.

Before I knew it, I had been backed into a corner of the room.

"Martial Arts Upgraded to Lv.4."

A notifcation appeared, but I dismissed it given the situation I was in. At this point I had broken a sweat.

"Tch," Is all I could say.

"Do not get frusrated, frustration only leads to a clouded mind." Lucian guided me.

He's right, I need to calm down. I started breathing more carefully and letting my movements flow instictively.

"New Skill Obtained: Meditation."

Again, I dismissed the message.

I slowly began pushing back, making my way out of the corner.

I delivered a sweep kick at the first chanced I got, which was immediately dodged. My arms met with the swift, but extremely heavy swing of Lucian's sword sending me flying. The shockwave of the attack reverberated throughout the room.

My arms were numb, but they healed too fast to be out of commission.

I performed several acrobatic flips in the air landing on the Northwall on all fours. I decided kept this movement up, jumping off the floor walls and ceilings. Faster, I have to go faster.

Lucian stood patiently in the middle of the room anticipating my next move.

Everywhere I jumped, he followed with his eyes. This guy didn't have any blindspots.

"What's up with that movement? It's like your an animal or something," Lucian stated sounding amused.

I just needed an opening. Just one is enough!

Lucian put his sword in his holster and dusted his hands off as if to say that he was done in every sense of the word. He's looking down on me.

There, an opening! I jumped off the West wall, readying a flying axe kick.

"Now I have you!" Is what I thought.

"Congratulations, you pass," Lucian said as he side stepped my axe kick and delivered a powerful open palm strike to my stomach.

The last thing I saw was darkness.
