Chapter 13 - Earthling?

I arrived at my destination, suitcase in hand.

It was an old building, that practically looked abandoned. I knocked on the front door and waited.

After 20 seconds I heard what sounded like footsteps rushing down stairs, and excited squeals.

"Finally, it's here," The voice of a woman said.

The door flung open which caught me by surprise, but doesn't even compare to how surprised the woman and I were at each other.

She stood in the open doorway in shock at what I was wearing, the feeling was mutual.

She had brown hair, amber eyes, glasses, jeans, and wore a lab coat.

She looked like the stereotypical image of a modern science. I broke the silence.

"The quest is complete, I've come to deliver and collect payment," I said.

"Yeah...let me go get it," She said as she closed the door.

On the otherside of the door, I think I heard another squeal of joy.

"He's from Earth, he has to be, those close aren't normal here," She said convincing herself.

Well, there's nothing inherently wrong with knowing that I'm from Earth, let's see where this goes.

The door flung open again, and she stood in front of me again.

"Here's your reward," She said handing me 2 Gold, 5 Silver, and a Wind Mage's Book Of Spells.

Current Balance: 400C, 26S, 2G, 0P.

"Thank you," I said handing her the suitcase.

I turned to walk away before she called out to me again.

"Hey, you, what's your name?" She asked.

"Milo," I told her.

"I'm Vanessa...Milo...you're from Earth, aren't you?" She inferred.

"Yeah, that would me you are too, right?" I questionef back.

"Yes, I knew it! Come inside, there's so much we have to talk about!" She exclaimed while pulling me by my arm.

I pulled away. She may be from Earth which is great and all, but I'm not walking into a stranger's house.

"Uh, there's somewhere I need to be going," I said.

It was the truth, there's two kids I need to go check up on.

"But-" Vanessa was going to protest before I interupted.

"Maybe we can talk some other time miss Vanessa, I'll be sure to come by again," I said.

The prospect of others like me was intriuging, it's not something I can let go of. Maybe they'll even know of a way to get home.

"Oh, I see..." Vanessa sulked.

"See you later then," She closed her door.

On the otherside of the door I could hear wails of sorrow.

Oh well, for now I need to head back to the slums.

In about 3 minutes, I was back at the alleyway that lead into the slums.

I checked my surroundings to see if the coast was clear, it was. I proceeded to jump the border and make my way back to my hideout.

While I was walking, I managed to overhear a commotion.

"I'm telling you Merideth, an Angel healed me! While I was covered in bandages, lying in the tent wide awake, and Angel healed me. I saw a faint light, and all of my injuries and pain were gone."

It was the man from earlier, the one I cleaned and heal before heading into the main city.

"Don't be absurd, Angels wouldn't visit us!" Merideth said as she wacked the man on the head with her stick.

Yup, not getting involved with that.

"Stealth has been Upgraded to Lv.3"

As I approached my hideout all the way in the back of the slums, I heard the faint sound of a soccerball being kicked.

"96 to 54, give it up Juro!" Emilia yelled as she kicked the soccerball with tremendous force.

The ball was headed straight toward Juro's goal, but he countered with a headbutt.

Looking at both their foreheads, I could see that they were bright red.

What the hell? How did they grow so much just from playing soccer? And what's up with Juro's spirit!? It was in the 20's last time I checked.

"I won't lose. I'm Milo's number 1 disciple!" Juro did some crazy ass acrobatic flip and spiked the ball straight at Emilia.

"I told you to drop that!" Emilia yeller as she did a jumping knee strike.

She knocked the ball straight up, Emilia turned over in the air, then spiked the ball into Juro's goal.

Juro stood there in disbelief.

"97 to 54," Emilia huffed.

Then, that's when she saw me standing there in shock.

"M-m-master?" She shakingly said.

Juro turned his head to see me.

"You're back! But what's up with those clothes?"

"..." I said nothing.

"Oh no, he must be sick!" Juro yelled.

"S-sick?!" Emilia exclaimed.

"No, I'm fine." I said.

"So, where'd you go for so long?" Juro asked.

"Juro, we shouldn't pry into master's business," Emilia preached.

"I was on an a quest from the adventurer's guild," I stated.

They both perked up at hearing this.

"Quest!? Tell us about it!" They both said.

I wondered if I should even tell the kids about it. The Wendigo was pretty scary even to me.

I caved in anyway. These kids have probably already seen into the darkness of this world anyway.

(7 Minutes Later)

They sat at the bench as I laid in my hamock finishing up my story.

"I wonder who the Wendigo was before they turned, poor person," Emilia said.

"I wouldn't want to run into something like that," Juro said.

They're pretty good listeners.

"Now then, I need to do some reading before we begin today's training," I said.

"Yes master!" They said in unison.

They went off in the slums somewhere.

I cracked open the Mage's Book of Wind Spells and began reading through it.

I was surprised at the fact that I could even read it in the first place, another parallel between Earth and this world?

"Skim through the pages," Erythro said after a long time.

"All of them," Erythro added.

I did as instructed until I reached the end.

"I am done," Erythro stated.

"Done?" I asked curiously.

My senses were unexpectedly bombarded with hundreds of phrases, each one repeating over and over again.

Then it just came to an abrupt stop.

"New Skill Obtained: Wind Magic."

"Wind Magic has been Upgraded to Lv.2"

"Wind Magic has been Upgraded to Lv.3"
