Magnus had almost gotten stuck in a tree on his way down. Lucky for him, there was a little opening in the forest's trees giving him enough room to fall through with his parachute. Having materialized Amicus, he set out for that car after he got help taking his parachute off.
Creeping silently, he looked at the ground, careful not to tread on any sticks so as to alert a Deutschlander that they were nearby. Creeping like this was taxing on his feet and legs, but he powered through. He had to do so for another 28 miles.
Then Amicus whispered to him, "There is a cabin nearby, maybe we should rest for the night."
Magnus saw the appeal in such a proposition. They had to get to the car and drive unnoticed across Deutschland and into the UPC holdings of Gaul. This was an unlikely course of events, but there was no other logical course of events.
Then an idea came to mind. If he was going to be caught, why not make like an comic book hero and just fight through Deutsche-occupied Gaul?
He wouldn't need to worry about ammo because he could just loot the fallen bodies. This idea also seemed much more viable for ending the war early. The thing was, if he momentarily hesitated, it would all be over.
Magnus thought it was worth the risk. He asked Amicus for his opinion.
"I'll give you your backup!", Amicus said, giving Magnus a thumbs up and a wink.
Magnus thought the car would still be necessary for this plan, so he started running instead of creeping. Sprinting now, he used his mental capacity to bolster his stamina. Already being immense, Magnus could now sprint for at most 50 miles while focusing.
He stepped on stick and twig alike under the pine-needle blanket covering the forest floor. He then heard them, the Deutsche shouts. Magnus realized he could've grabbed the rifle from under his seat on the bomber, but fantasizing about it wouldn't help.
Magnus did have a pretty thick stick though. Breaking it in half, he now had a spear.
Magnus ran towards the shouts, Amicus close behind. Magnus ran out into a clearing. A squad of Deutsche soldiers were gathered around a tank and smoking cigarettes. As soon as they saw Magnus with Amicus following close behind, they freaked out. One of them kept his cool and grabbed his pistol.
Aiming for Amicus' head, the Deutsche soldier shot, putting a bullet right through the head of Magnus' AI.
Amicus said to Magnus, "Holy- This crap hurts! How do you put up with it?"
Magnus replied, "I don't. I try to heal myself ASAP and if it doesn't heal right away, I get angry. So, I take out my anger on those smug, entitled Deutschlanders!" As he was finishing the sentence, he jabbed the makeshift spear into the gut of one of the soldiers.
Magnus was getting riddled like the fighter he flew, but, focusing, he healed himself as fast as he could. He didn't need to focus to keep Amicus around, all he needed to do was materialize him. If he did use his mental capacity on Amicus, it would grant the ability to sense was Amicus was experiencing, which he didn't really want right now.
Magnus stabbed the soldier in the gut a couple more times, and, pronouncing him dead in his head, took the handgun he was holding. Magnus checked the magazine and realized that it was still full.
While Magnus was acquiring some ranged weapons for them, Amicus held the Deutsche off of his back by running up to them and incapacitating them. He ran up to one of the soldiers and delivered a swift kick to his chest, knocking the wind out of him. Running up to the next victim as it shot at him, Amicus dodged the oncoming shots and delivered a solid punch, knocking him out.
Soon, Magnus and Amicus had dominated the Deutsche by either incapacitating them or killing them, Magnus had quite the proposition.
"Why don't we ditch the car altogether and take the tank?"
It was a logical idea, and it had a much better gun than the car would have. Amicus was thrilled at the idea of going in a tank. They both agreed and climbed inside. Since Amicus was an AI and knew everything that was going on in the domain because the General had granted him access, he drove the tank, not needing directions.
Magnus was stuck as the gunner. And loader. He had to fulfill these two jobs by himself. Looking down at his watch, he learned from the chronograph that the time was 00:24.
Magnus told Amicus, "Go to the nearest Deutsche POW camp. We could use some fellow crewmen for this tank."
If they were being serious about ending the war themselves, they would have to either destroy the military or the industry. Already having been on a mission to destroy the industry, Magnus thought it high time he tried winning the war the old-fashioned way.
Amicus steered them in the direction of the Prisoner of War camp, determined to deliver Magnus to the camp before sunrise. It was 54 miles way. Going an average of 20 miles per hour, they would arrive some time around 03:00.
And so it was. The drive over was quite, and so they got at the POW camp by 02:55.
They were ready for combat, and boy were they going to fight. Pulling the turret through the trees, Amicus gave Magnus a clear shot of the watchtower.
And Magnus took it. What Magnus didn't know was that these were not armor-piercing rounds, but rounds designed to explode into flame and take out infantry. Thus, the explosion of the shell is larger. So, when the shell Magnus fired at the watchtower made contact, the whole thing went up in flames, and the soldiers in is fell out of the tower, burning.
These shells would give them the decisive advantage, Magnus thought, as the tank pulled out of the shrubbery to neutralize the other three watchtowers on the POW camp. With enough luck, Amicus and Magnus would make it out of this one with some friends and book it back to the northern coast of Gaul to get onto a boat and get back to the General.
