Chereads / Love At First Gaze / Chapter 54 - Match Hers

Chapter 54 - Match Hers

When Lily texted Lin Que, he was in the middle of a meeting with the finance department in Lin Corps. As he skimmed through the documents, his phone vibrated. Thinking it may be something urgent, he decided to look at his notifications.

'Lily..Of course, I need to answer!' He thought inwardly as a sweet smile blossomed on his face. The financial advisors widened their eyes, but didn't dare continue staring at him. When they snuck another few glances at his direction, they saw him texting in the middle of work. Blinking rapidly to clear their vision, they looked up once again.

Not only did he text during work, he also almost jumped out of his chair with a frustrated look for a few seconds. After another minute or so, he received another text. The way he smiled looked as if he had won some billionaire contest. His expression varied from joy, frustration, relaxed, slight frown to smiling again.

"...Mister Lin.." one of the advisors decided to speak as they were midway explaining the company's progress to him before the interruption. Without looking at the advisors in front of him, he raised his palm to halt their words. Immediately, the advisor shut his mouth.

His gaze fixated entirely on his screen as his fingers glided across his phone screen. He let out a small puff of air from his mouth after completing a seemingly rough task on his phone. Smiling at the screen for no apparent reason again, he dialed Assistant Zan's office number.

"Assistant Zan, I forwarded a gown picture to your phone. Prepare a matching suit to that dress, fresh rose bouquet and a hair stylist. I need these all done by Friday morning."

On the other end of the phone, Assistant Zan zoned out as she thought she had heard wrong. "I'm sorry, Mister Lin, can you repeat what you just said?"

Repeating his words patiently with a smile on his face, he kept his eyes on Lily's selfie.

Assistant Zan wrote down what he wanted her to help prepare. Feeling something was not right, she asked, "Mister Lin, how big do you want the bouquet to be? How many stalks of roses?"

Raising the corners of his lips, "Ninety-nine stalks with pink gift wrap. Make sure to have a ribbon around it. Anything else? As long as everything matches with the gown, I'll be fine with it."

Assistant Zan checked his schedule and reminded him about attending an event that evening. Lin Que was in a great mood and sounded cheerful. He said, "Cancel it. That event doesn't need me to be present anyways. If not, then you go in my place."

"...But you're the one who said you'll go." She lowered her voice slightly as she tilted her left brow upwards.

"Who was the one who replied to their invitation?" He asked.

"Me."

"Who was the one who told them a representative would attend the event when the product is launched?" He asked again.

"Also me."

"Then as my assistant who has been the one being in contact with them, can't you be the one attending the event? Did the emails say I would attend? If not, you can attend in my place." He nodded as she smiled with his eyes closed.

"That's true...I haven't mentioned your name in any of our interactions." She felt like she dug her own grave and facepalmed her forehead.

"Good. I'll compensate for overtime. Now, put everything on hold and focus on this task. Thank you." He said and hung up the call. Folding his hands and leaning against the back of his chair, he crossed his legs and said, "Where were we up to?"

The advisors quickly picked up from where they had left off with many question marks in their heads. Still, it was a private matter that didn't concern them. Therefore, they could only make guesses and zip up their lips.

Since he was taking the Friday evening off, he had to push all his work for the next two days to make it up. Even though he wanted to spend time with Lily, he could only bite his lips and prevent himself from seeing his girlfriend for two days.

After the meeting had ended, he made another call. This time, he used his personal number.

"Wassup buddy?" The male voice from the other end happily answered the call.

"Are you free Friday night?" Even if that man isn't free, he would be forced to clear up his schedule.

"Well, if big boss needs me~ I'm always free for your use." The man replied as he detected a sense of anger in Lin Que's tone.

"I have to attend a party on Friday."

"And?"

"You're coming with me."

"AH?? Big boss, even though I don't have a girlfriend...I don't need a boyfriend. Plus, wouldn't it be better if you go with a female companion?" The male sounded very much surprised as Lin Que would always reject socialite events.

"You don't have a girlfriend, but I do. I'm not eating you alive or anything. Anyways, I just need to borrow your mouth that day." Lin Que didn't realize his words were misleading.

"G..girl?.. Wait..M..My mouth?" The man sounded nervous as he covered up his own lips.

"What are you thinking about? Lawyer Kevin, aren't you best at brutally stuffing sharp rocks to people's mouths in court? I'll give you a price for a live show at the party. What do you think?" Lin Que tapped his fingers against the chair's arm.

"Overtime charge?" Kevin jokingly said.

"Deal," Lin Que gave it no thought at all and accepted the condition.

"W..What? Who made our lord pissed off this time? Damn! I'll be there." Kevin scratched the back of his head as he thought how unfortunate it would be for the opponent.

"Not me. They challenged my girl. The file will be forwarded to your business email in a bit. I'll pick you up around six on Friday evening. Thanks." Lin Que hung up, held Jiang Meng Meng's personal file up and slammed it against his table.

"Bullying my girlfriend and her family? I'll see who will have such guts after this party."
