Donna was beginning to wonder what was going on and why! Was it Deanna? Did she know that John wasn't happy with her these days and she wanted to scare Donna but if that's the case why the old man incident? There were indeed some questions to be answered. Also, what did the two notes mean that said "Next Time"?
She was pondering over all these things while she was making a pot of coffee for she and JoAnn Sunday morning. She let JoAnn sleep late so she could get a little more rest before she had to take her home.
Donna was happy that Don would be home later this afternoon, and only a few miles from her. She also hoped he'd want to at least stay with her tonight so she could relax knowing a man was in the house. Her thoughts went back to John since it looked like Deanna might soon be out of the picture and good riddance to her as far as Donna was concerned! She quickly snapped out of that thought! Had she forgotten that John seemed to ease into a relationship with Deanna and now might be considering someone else and leaving Deanna just like he did Donna. It was still hard to realize that the man she loved had cheated on her to the point of no return. Best let John go completely from her mind and concentrate on Don. So far, Don had swept her off her feet in record time and she was hoping for a genuine relationship like the one she thought she had with John. Yep, best thing was to drop those thoughts of John like a pan of hot potatoes!
Donna heard JoAnn meandering into the kitchen with a good morning smile and a huge mug ready for some good hot coffee. They got some coffee and each grabbed a section of the morning paper to read. Donna and JoAnn decided to go to the little Mom and Pop cafe a few miles down from the house to eat some bacon and pancakes, and drink one more cup of coffee before they went sightseeing of some beautiful lakefront homes that had been built last year.
Then after their food settled, they'd go for a swim at the community pool and do a little sunbathing. Donna wanted to make sure that JoAnn had some fun before she had to go back home. These two beauties usually attracted a lot of attention wherever they went but they both just smiled and kept walking, and the pool was no exception. The lifeguard had to call down the wolf whistles whenever they were clad in their bikinis. Neither one of them lacked from looks!
The pool and sunbathing were just what they had both needed to counter balance a crazy weekend! Donna and JoAnn had discussed everything in detail as they rode around the lake earlier.
They were almost to Donna's house when a dark sedan with tinted windows raced by them almost running Donna and JoAnn off the road. Dust went everywhere in the car and both ladies were coughing and trying to get the dust off the windshield. Donna immediately called 911 and reported the near miss event to the Lake Shore Police Department since so much was going on, strange notes left at her house saying Next Time, an old man shadowing her at times when she's grocery shopping! She couldn't wait to tell Don tonight!
When Donna and JoAnn got to the house nothing appeared to have been moved or out of place, so they got JoAnn's overnight bag and headed to town. Donna dropped JoAnn off at her place and got back home just in time to shower and get a quick cat nap before picking up Don at the airport.
These days Donna always had one eye open at all times plus her loaded pistol at arms reach. Too many weird things and none of them made sense to her so she started thinking maybe it was some half-crazed pervert!
Donna was getting ready to leave the house when Aunt Debra (she and her uncle raised Donna when her mother and lover were shot and killed by her father. Then her father begged his sister (Aunt Debra) if they would please come get her and adopt her.
Aunt Debra told Donna she had best sit down please, because she had something to tell her that was going to shock her when she did!
"Donna, I don't know exactly how to tell you this but your Dad is still alive!" Donna couldn't believe her ears! "What do you mean still alive?" Aunt Debra, you told me that Dad hung himself in jail right after he talked to you and told you to ask me to please forgive him?"
"It was a lie, but my brother, your Dad, made me do it because he didn't want you to go through all the pain it would cause you being teased about having a murderer for a father." "But wasn't there a sure call for the death penalty?" "Yes, originally there was but then his lawyer pleaded insanity and got it and your Dad was sentenced to an institution instead." "But, why didn't you tell me?" "Again, Donna, your Dad had no idea that he would ever get out of the institution but he was a model prisoner and had time taken off his sentence and he officially got out about three weeks ago and wants to ask your forgiveness in a note and then leave your life for good this time!"
By this time, Donna was sobbing so bad she could hardly speak. "Where is he now, Aunt Debra?" Well, he was on caller ID so I had a friend of mine check the number on his phone. The location shows the name of the motel." "Please give me that number." Okay, Hon, but be prepared to see a much older man, as well as a broken one." "I think I got a pretty good look at him at the supermarket." "Aunt Debra, I want to see my Dad!" Could you ask him if Don and I could come see him this evening and get his phone number and room number and text it to me? I've got to pick Don up from the airport in about an hour so I need to go." Aunt Debra, thank you for loving me and raising me but most of all for telling me I have a father again!" It's good to hear from you. I thought you guys were still on your trip overseas! " "We had to cut it short because your uncle got sick but we're going back once he is up and going again." We just got back a couple of days ago and I'm sorry I hadn't called you sooner.
"Aunt Debra, I've got to go now but I love you guys!" Bye for now."
