Chapter 22 - Chapter 22. Fear Rear's It's Ugly Head Again

After Don left to go fishing with Donna's dad, Donna started cleaning the house and folding some clothes from the dryer.

While she was folding clothes, she began thinking about how proud she was of Don for making friends with her dad. She knew John would have been the same way. John, "Oh no", Donna had completely forgotten about calling him with the news of her dad!

She had lost all feeling toward John at first because he and Deanna had broken her heart in the worse kind of way that a man or woman could hurt a spouse.

Actually, these days John had been more than gracious toward Donna. He had done more than his part in the divorce settlement and had really been a needed help to her often after they separated.

Donna still could not stand the sight of Deanna, her real betrayer! It might take years for that to happen, if she ever did.

It was strange she had thought about John and Deanna! Maybe it was because she hadn't heard back from John since he bought his high-rise apartment. She wasn't sure if John and Deanna were still on or off, not that it mattered to Donna.

Donna decided to get John up to date on all the happenings since she had last seen him so she dialed his number and he answered right away.

Donna asked him how things were going and he told her nothing had changed but that his apartment would be ready for move-in this next week. He also told her that he had to make a decision before Deanna found out about the apartment!

Donna then told John about her dad and all that was happening with the notes, etc.

John told Donna to be careful and keep her

pistol loaded and to try not be alone in a place where she could be easily ambushed.

Donna thoughts went back to getting her clothes folded, and finishing cleaning so she'd have plenty of time to cook a good meal for her dad and Don.

Finally, the house was spic and span and Donna went into the kitchen. There on the counter bigger than life itself was another note saying "Next Time."

Donna froze in her tracks! She could hardly keep from screaming, where was her cell phone, had she left it in the bathroom? She felt something warm in her pocket and located the cell phone. "Thank God" formed on on her lips!"

Her next move was to get to the safe room just one door away. It looked like a pantry but in reality, it had a sliding panel that no one outside of family knew about.

Her heart felt like it was coming out of her chest but she moved forward quickly and slid the panel door open, getting inside and locking it. Just as she breathed a sigh, she heard someone try the door!

Thank God that John had seen fit to put a safe room in the lake house, as well as their home. Now, at least she'd know she would be safe until she could call "911" for the police. No one could break inside this room!

Donna shakily dialed the emergency 911 and reported that an intruder was in her house. She had always appeared confident in the past and had not shown fear but this situation had been strange from the beginning.

Whoever this person was, they had invaded her privacy and actually had been in her house at least twice or more. It didn't appear that she had made any enemies in the past so was this a random act of a pervert and she wanted to put as much space as possible between herself and this nut case!

All of a sudden,Donna heard a knock on the safe room and it was Don's voice. "Honey, open the door, the police are here. "Thank God", she said as she opened the door and flew into Don 's arms.

Donna was shaking so bad that Don took her in the kitchen and got her a glass of water to settle het down before she was able to talk to the police.

"Donna, this is getting dangerous!" This man seems to be taking every opportunity to try to get to you! This had got to stop before you or someone else gets hurt."
