Donna woke up post "D" (divorce) day with a smile on her face. The Texas sunlight cast a soft golden hue throughout the room as it illuminated the white panels over the windows. It was such a lazy, peaceful feeling that Donna could have laid there all day and bathed in the shimmer of its softness.
As Donna lay there, memories of last night captured her mind. She and Don laughed so much and he held her when tears of regret fell down her cheeks. Not tears for love lost, as much as tears for dreams lost. She had always thought she and John would grow old together but instead her life took an unexpected turn and now she was single again. Then the storm/tornado dealt her another blow and now the finality of the divorce! Still, she and Don had a great time in spite of her initial sadness with the divorce becoming final! And then when the earth actually moved only ten minutes after they had walked away from it. It was a newly constructed embankment and they could have lost their life.
As they started home, Donna kept falling asleep and was out like a light when Don drove up to her place. Don left her in the Jeep and unlocked the house then he carried her inside to her bedroom, and undressed her just enough to put her pjs on that were already laid out on the bed,
and went to kiss her on her cheek again (it seemed like he was always just kissing her cheek and he wanted so much more from her but this was not the time for it). Then he locked everything down and headed home for a little rest and dreaming himself!
Don had shown himself a true gentleman when he didn't take advantage of her in her weakest moments and for that Donna was very thankful but she did remember half waking up and putting her arms around his neck and pulling him close to her. It took everything Don had to just kiss her on her cheek again and walk away.
Donna was snoozing and having sweet dreams when the doorbell rang and abruptly woke her up.
Grabbing her housecoat, she ran a brush through her hair and checked through the peephole. Don was smiling back at her. When she opened the door, he kissed her on the cheek and said "Good morning sweet lady, I bring coffee and crescents may I come in or should I wait in the car until madam wakes up?"
Donna grabbed him by the arm and pulled him in the house. "Any man that brings me hot coffee and crescents on Saturday morning is in the house. When Don put down the coffee and doughnuts, he turned Donna toward him and kissed her warmly on the lips. Donna, I've been wanting to kiss you like that from the first time I met you! Donna was surprised in a very nice way and started mumbling something about cream in her coffee as they sat down for breakfast. I'm glad you came over because I wanted to thank you for last night. You being with me last night made a bad day and night bearable. "My pleasure Donna. I'm so glad I thought of the food mixup at Chick-Fil-A or I might never have met you." "I'm glad you did too, Don."
"What are your plans for the day Donna?" Nothing much. Why? "Well, today, I really came over to see if you might want to go fishing with me?" That would be great when would you like to go? "Is right after you get dressed too soon? Oh you have a boat?" "Not quite! Remember that old boat tied up on the beach at the front of my property?" "Yes, but are you sure it seaworthy?" "You sure we'll be okay in it?" "Well"... you can swim can't you?" Donna looked at Don and said "Now that worries me!"
I would love to go fishing but first I have to finish folding this last load of towels." You
are my kind of a woman!" Don replied. "Why thank you Mr. Sanderson, and you are my kind of man! "And what kind of man is that?" "The kind of man that will help me fold towels so we can go fishing faster!"
Don grabbed the last towel left to fold and did a love pop on Donna's backside and she let out an ouch! Then the fight was on because a tight pair of a blue jeans can make a pop sting like crazy. Donna limped out of the room like she was hurt and Don feeling pretty low walked into the den planning to apologize, when a towel popped him on the backside with a good sting as well. As Donna was attempting to go in for kill, Don whirled around and grabbed her in his arms and kissed her with a a toe-curling kiss that made Donna feel dizzy so she quickly grabbed his sides and tickled him until they both fell on the couch out of breath and laughing!
"Now can we go fishing?", Don said.
Donna asked Don if she needed to bring anything and he answered "just need your sweet self and maybe some sun screen."
Donna quickly dressed and they headed off for a day of fun and fishing.
The old boat had seen better days but Don had at least cleaned it up and took a lot of trash out of it that some kids must have thrown in it.
Don and Donna got in the old boat and once they were seated and had life jackets on, Don cranked the old motor he had found in the boat storage shed and they were off for a day of fun and fishing!
