Chapter 4 - 4.A Lift From a Stranger

Just as she was still deep in thought, a car slowly pulled up in front of her. The driver was looking charming and irresistible but Fang had failed to notice that at that point in time. All she was after was how she could get to her house and take enough rest after the day's work.

He did honk on her for his presence to be noticed because, from the way She had left her face to the other side of the road, one could easily think that she hadn't been aware there was a car in front of her.

Or maybe she just wasn't interested in getting into the car. Because she had suspected the driver stopped in front of her on purpose, which was to try to help her get to her destination. So she smartly averted her gaze, before the car owner could think she had seen him.

After some seconds, the person at the driver seat had to get down from the car to say 'hi' to Wang Fang.

"Hi, pretty lady?"

Wang Fang turned to the direction the 'hi' had come from, she was so full of thought that she hadn't responded immediately. And when she finally did, she did it reluctantly.

From the tone she used, it was clear she wasn't interested in getting into any conversation with him.

"Yeah!" She responded and quickly threw her face to the other side.

With the manner, she was focused on the road and at the same time stared at her wristwatch, It was obvious to the young man that she had been standing there for quite some time now trying to get a cab or expecting someone to come to take her home.

"Expecting a ride to come to pick you up!?" He asked not minding the fact that Wang Fang wasn't even looking at his direction.

She responded with her gaze still fixed in one direction. "Not really a ride, a cab actually."

The man had literally walked in front of her thereby obstructing her from gazing in that same direction. He spoke In a way that really got Fang's attention to taking cognizance of him.

"Isn't it obvious you can't get a cab tonight?... Why not get in my ride let me take you to your destination?"

She wasn't surprised at all, this was exactly what she had the makeup of his stopping and honking on her in the first place.

What was she going to do now, was she going to turn this offer down? The young man standing in front of her wasn't looking that bad and harmful.

"Don't worry, I would get one soon!" She replied, but this time around with a calm voice and well Composed manner.

"I don't think so, I suggest you get in the car. You're a lady and shouldn't be here all alone, It could be dangerous out here, you know?"

Dangerous? The stranger Is actually right. But accepting a ride from a total stranger could be dangerous as well, even though he didn't appear harmful. But on second thought, what If she turns down his offer and later ends up not getting any cab? The only option that would be left then would be to go back to the hotel and pass the night there. All these thoughts were coursing through Fang's mind.

How much she had hated to sleep at the hotel, She had no friend there and her colleagues seemed jealous of her on some reasons best known to them.

The hotel where she worked offered every staff accommodation, but Wang Fang had not accepted that. She had made it clear to them from the beginning that she didn't need that from them.

That was because they had made it in a way It was inconveniencing to her. It was Four staff to a room not minding your privacy. Wang Fang happened to be that one lady that valued her privacy with so much passion.

So going back to the hotel would make her a laughing stock between her colleagues. She finally opted for the other option, which means taking the risk of riding In a car with a total stranger.

"Okay fine, I don't really know you. But I'm about taking the risk of my life." She said not smiling at all.

"Trust me, you're in safe hands." He said assuredly.

Wang Fang strode across the front of his car and got into the passenger's seat after he had gone in to open the passenger's side door for her.

Now she seemed a bit relieved, she was no longer standing there trying to get a cab. Although she wasn't comfortable riding in one car with a man she knew nothing about.

They had driven from about five minute and none of them had said anything to each other.

The journey was getting the young man bored, he didn't even know how to start up a conversation with Fang.

He then decided to break the silence by

asking her about her name. Funnily enough, they hadn't got to know their names all the time they had talked while standing, even though their conversation was short and the space of silence had been much.

"I'm He Jinyong by the name" He finally said his name, expecting Fang to do the same. When Fang had not said anything, he asked her of her name.

"May I know your name?"

"Ooh, Sorry My name? okay I'm Wang Fang

What's yours?"

She had asked him his name.

Fang had been deep in thought throughout the journey, she didn't know when Jinyong had

said his name, but she heard him say something, her mind was not really there to fathom what he had said.

"Really, I already said mine I waited for some seconds to get a response from you, and when I didn't get any, I decided to ask yours. Don't tell me you've Been lost In thought."

"I'm sorry, I wasn't myself. What did you say Was your name?"

"Okay, I'm He Jinyong" He repeated his name.

"Nice meeting you," Fang said, offering her hand for a friendly handshake. He gladly accepted.

"It's my pleasure, pretty lady" He uttered accepting her friendly handshake.

Wang Fang directed him to the direction she was heading to, when she saw that he was taking a slow on his speed, she suspected its as a result of him not knowing where she lived. She didn't expect him to know after all.

Wang Fang noticed through the passenger's side mirror that he had been looking at her.

So she lowered her head and shielded her face from his view.

Even He Jinyong noticed what she had done, so he concluded she was the shy type and decided not to look at her again, rather focused on his driving.

The rest of the journey was spent in silence.
