He had a short night due to the anticipation for lunch with Fang the next day. He woke up at exactly 5 am. That was a bit too early compared to his usual time of waking up.
He had slept late and had woken up too early, that had contributed to him having a short night.
The next morning, at about 7 am, he had called Fang to remind her of their agreement, and Fang had promised for the second time, to be there.
*********
AT DIVINO BAR AND RESTAURANT
Wang fang got to the restaurant they had both agreed to meet, she got there in ten minutes passed the time they had initially agreed on.
She got there and met He Jinyong already seated, waiting for her arrival.
with the look on his face, one could easily predict he had been there even before the time and was tired of waiting for Fang.
"You look worried, is anything the matter?"
She asked as soon as she got there even before Jinyong could notice her presence. Her words got him startled because he had no idea she was there.
"For how long have you been standing there staring at me?" He asked as he threw a charming look at her.
"I just arrived, am not surprised you didn't notice my presence before I even uttered a word, I guess you were deep in thoughts." She said as carefully moved one of the chairs to sit on.
" You are right, I was just bothered about your late arrival. So what happened, why are you just coming?" He Jinyong asked as he focused his full attention on Fang, with the aim of getting to know why she had come late.
"What! does that really count? I am here now, so I don't think there's a need for all these explanations!" She said with a frowned face.
He Jinyong noticed the mood swing in her and didn't bother asking her what had suddenly happened, he already knew it was as a result of his attempt of trying to know why she had come after the specified time they agreed on.
He then changed the topic by asking her what she cared for, " What do you care for?"
"I have to go through the menu first, to see what they have here."
She took her time to go through the list of food on the menu. As soon as she spotted the one she liked, although it wasn't her favorite she told He Jinyong to let the waitress come take her orders.
He Jinyong signaled the waitress and in a jiffy, she arrives! She politely asked Jinyong his orders, she was directed to ask the lady first what she wanted.
The waitress asked kindly, "Ma'am, what do we offer you?"
"Let me have Sichuan and a bottle of Jiabelan to go with" She placed her order.
Unknowingly to Fang that that was exactly what He Jinyong wanted. In fact, those were his favorite takes each time he was at 'Divino Bar and Restaurant"
He had wanted to eat the same meal as Fang, little did he know that she was going to go for his favorite meal.
Wow, that was a good one, she was beginning to make everything easy for him.
After the waitress had taken Fang's order, she then turned to He Jinyong.
"Sir, what do you care for?" She asked smiling at him.
"I go with what she ordered for."
The waitress then left them to get their meal served. As soon as she left, Wang Fang threw a kind of killing stare at him and uttered.
"Is this supposed to be a joke or something? Why do you want to have the same meal as me? Ooh! that was why you asked her to attend to me first."
"Not really, I actually had it in mind to have Sichuan and a bottle of Jiabelan. I take those two each time I come here, especially when it's dinner. I hope you don't have any problem with that?"
"Not really, it's fine by me."
Just as they were still talking, the waitress swiftly presented their order on the table in a manner they liked.
They began to eat in silence, He Jinyong could not take his eyes off Fang as they ate. He believed he had not taken her out for lunch to 'Divino Bar and Restaurant' Just to eat, but also to have a conversation with her.
He Jinyong kept staring at her, he really wanted to break the silence, and Fang, on the other hand, knew what was going on in his head.
He didn't know how to go about breaking the silence without offending Fang, as she was busy enjoying her meal. She had noticed the way he had been looking at her all along. Was he going to remain that way, already she knew his reasons for the lunch was not just to eat, there was more to that.
He finally broke the silence, "I hope you like the meal?"
"Yes, thanks a lot!" She replied without looking at the person talking to her.
"Can we talk about you?" He Jinyong asked as his heartbeat harder, he was scared of what would be the outcome of his question to Fang, was she going to get mad at him or not?
"Like right now?"
"Yes dear, at least there is a reason why I had asked to take you out for lunch."
"Alright, what do you want to know about me?" She asked. This time around, she was focused on He Jinyong.
"let me start by asking you, what do you do for a living?"
"Huh? What I do for a living! okay, I work as a receptionist in a hotel."
At the hearing of that, the excitement in his eyes at the beginning dwindled.
"You work in a hotel? oh, that's nice you know."
She took a closed look at Jinyong and discovered he was not happy about her work. She won't blame him after all he wasn't the only person she had come across that hated the kind of work she does.
But that was not a problem for her, after all, they had nothing together.
"Why the sudden change of mood? you don't like what I do for a living right? Just be honest."
"That's true, I don't like it. But that isn't going to change anything." He Jinyong uttered assuredly.
"I don't get you, what do you mean by ' that is not going to change anything?' There is nothing in place that was going to change. listen, I don't know what you are up to but if you think anything is going to happen between us, then you better have a second thought, because I know nothing of such is ever going to happen." She said reluctantly
Dissatisfaction crossed He Jinyong's face temporarily when he realized that Fang was trying to be hard on him.
What had he ever done to get such a hurtful word from her, he had not said anything bad to her.
"Wow, you know what, I am not going to allow those words of yours hurt my feelings." He said as he laughed pretentiously.
*************
They both got out of the restaurant after spending some time there. He Jinyong had suggested they went home because of the way fang had reacted to his other questions.
He had asked her some other questions that fang had failed to talk about.
Fang had acted way too foolishly and immature, whatever had come over her was not a good one.
He Jinyong had not made it obvious he was not happy, he sure was man enough to understand the kind of person Fang was and had not bothered to say anything that would make her regret ever going out with him.
He drove her home and made sure she had gotten inside the house before driving to his house.
On his way home, he kept thinking of how to make Fang his own forever not minding the attitude she pulled up earlier at the restaurant.
