Just as he was about to get onto the bed, the information of the said task flashed in front of his eyes.
[Task No. 1 : Find a person.]
[Name : Marco.]
[Time allocated to complete the mission : Three days.]
[Reward : Strength +1, XP 20.]
[Further details of the task.]
While Jax was busy trying to understand the meaning of this task, he noticed that the time had already started ticking.
He skimmed through the rows again but couldn't find what he was looking for.
'Weren't there any options like accepting or rejecting a mission?'
Jax couldn't help but ask when he was reminded of his wounds, which still haven't started healing yet, with traceable blood seeping from the gauges. The pain in his hand was bearable but his left thigh was very painful.
It took him fifteen minutes to walk from the interrogation room to infirmary, which would have taken less than ten minutes if he strolled over leisurely.
[Such type of privileges need you to reach a certain level before you can enjoy them.]
Nexus immediately dismissed his pleading like voice before it continued in its childish voice again.
[And rejecting a mission would cost you a lot of points, which you didn't have any.]
Saying this it flashed his body assessment results in his eyes once again, where he could see a blaring 'Zero' in the place which was supposed to be filled with his attained 'XP'.
Jax could only sigh in frustration.
He felt so withdrawing about accepting the task that he forgot about asking what he should do after finding the man and why he should search for this guy in the first place.
Actually he could care less about everything else, as he couldn't even keep his eyes open for a minute longer.
Jax had over worked himself all day long without even filling his already empty stomach, and getting assisted with a single IV drip after not eating for three continuous days couldn't do much in replenishing his lost energy. Not to mention the whole charade with Hank and to top everything, he even got beaten by him twice.
Thus, the bed in front of him felt so inviting that he didn't want to think about anything else and just slip in to a blissful and refreshing slumber.
Even though the bed and bedding in this prison infirmary couldn't be categorized as the finest and softest materials, at least they were much better compared to the stone bed in his match box of a prison cell.
Also the air here was much cleaner, despite the pungent medicinal smell that was spread in the entire room, compared to the stale conditions in the dark block where their cells were located, it was much better.
On the other hand, the guard who escorted Jax to the infirmary, couldn't understand why the youth in front of him was looking at the bed longingly, instead of climbing onto it to rest, just like what the sub jailer, officer Quinn told him to do.
"Young man, are you alright?" He asked in the end, not able to curb his own curiosity down.
And these few words were able to bring back Jax down to earth who seemed to went on a trip in his lala land in the eyes of the guard.
"Nothing." Jax replied to him curtly and immediately laid on the bed without saying anything to the guard again.
The guard just shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly and after discussing something about Jax's condition with the prison doctor, he left the infirmary briskly.
Apparently, Klayton must have ordered him to do so, otherwise why would a normal guard care about any inmate in here?
With that thought in his mind, Jax slipped into a peaceful and uninterrupted sleep.
The infirmary was almost empty, except for a sleeping Jax and the doctor who was busy finishing some paperwork very quietly, which helped Jax to rest properly for a while.
But when it was time for dinner, he was woken up by the doctor to have his meal.
Giving into his grumbling stomach, he woke up and finished his meal comparatively faster than normal, in hopes of sleeping again.
However, Nexus who had been silent after commenting on his pathetic XP points, chose this moment to make its presence clear to the ignorant Jax.
[Jax, you slept long enough. Don't you think you are wasting too much time on petty things like sleeping and eating?]
Hearing the system grumbling in his head without any prior warning, successfully stunned Jax as he was startled awake from his dazed state.
Only after rearranging his thoughts for a total of three minutes, could he think properly again.
It was not exaggerating to say that he had completely forgotten about the system, not to mention the task.
'What do you want now?'
[You got a task to complete, Jax.]
'Now?'
Jax asked as he turned to the window on his left, from where he could see the pitch black night sky. It was clearly very late, thus how could he go and search for someone at an hour this late into the night?
[There's no better time than now.]
Nexus quoted so seriously, which didn't sound very serious due to its silly young voice.
But, Jax was in no mood to entertain this weird system's antiques, as he couldn't risk getting caught for wandering in the Prison after restricted hours.
He didn't want to end up suffering in the dark room again. So he chose to ignore Nexus for the rest of the night, intending to search for this Marco guy in the morning.
From the details provided, he learned that Marco is working as one of the guards in this South Central prison. It shouldn't be much of a problem to find him after the sun came into the horizon.
However, Nexus wouldn't listen to him and when he played dead and didn't respond for a long time, the system went berserk and started blasting his ears with ear splitting yet eerie sounds.
'Stop it will you? Why are you in such a rush?'
[Because the faster you located the target, the more time you will get to plan how to finish him off.]
'Finish him off? What do you even mean?'
[Nothing serious. You just have to kill him.] If Nexus were a human, Jax would have seen her shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly.
