".... Get rid of it..."
[..... Grab the opportunity....]
Two voices....
Two entirely different answers....
For a single question of his, but Jax didn't know how to comply with either of them.
Could his situation get any more worse?
At least, he was sure that he wouldn't even consider the one from the weird system. This suggestion seemed way too astronomical for Jax to even think about it.
Killing people for the sake of some levelling up? He was never into getting off from trying new and exciting things, let alone taking lives for some measly and stupid quest hunt.
What did it even expect him to do? To pounce on the man in front of him without any conscience, just because it shouted excitedly?
Thanks, but no thanks! He was not suicidal.
[Ignoring my instructions was beyond suicidal. Why can't you understand such a simple thing? He .... ]
'Just stop rambling, its of no use.'
Nexus interrupted his thoughts again and tried to make its point clear but fortunately or unfortunately, Jax cut short its speech rather crudely.
Well, he was not much of a patient person to begin with, and it seemed like this weird system didn't know anything better than testing other people's patience all day long. Maybe, it was true that it wouldn't feel exhausted, but that didn't mean its recipients would be equally energetic, that too after two consecutive visits to the infirmary.
However, his annoyed reprimand got the opposite affect, instead of shutting up, the system went berserk when it finally got a response from the young man.
[You finally responded, do you even know how anxious (like it was even possible) I've been these two days thinking that I have lost the connection with my host? Now, just kill this ugly fatty in front of you already. We can make twenty XP points at a time. Such a wonderful opportunity, come on, don't just stand there like a statue, do something... ]
Nexus, as usual, went on rambling in its high pitched yet excited voice, not even stopping for a milli second that left Jax thinking that if it were a human child, it would have gone breathless by the end of its second or third sentence or even die by the end of its documentary long dialogue.
It would have been really helpful in getting rid of this system if that were the case, but it was not and that realization only made Jax feel down again.
He was oh so looking forward to comply with the suggestion from the fat figure than listening to the system's ear piercing screams for one more minute.
[Jax stop thinking of getting rid of me. It's not very easy ... ]
Nexus chose this moment to splash an invisible bucket of cold water in the form of its discouraging statements in its trademark kid on high sugar voice.
Yet, Jax wasn't in the mood to listen to it anymore, as he completely avoided what it was saying and shifted his focus entirely on to the fat figure clad in grey clothes, that were at least two sizes small for his physique.
Did this man think that wearing tight clothes might help him reduce his weight?
Wait, that was not the main issue here...
Jax needed to figure out how to escape the clutches of this overly enthusiastic voice that had been calling itself some type of system that was delegated to help him.
[I am not just claiming things, I'm really a system. And I'm here to help you....]
Nexus couldn't help but speak for itself, as if it felt wronged for being wrongly accused.
'Help my a**, in which type of holy book did they preach that killing people would help a person to lead a good life? You drilling my ear drums for three freaking days didn't help me with anything, alright?'
Jax couldn't help but grumble at the system's relentless claims, seriously, couldn't it be silent for one f*cking minute and let him think properly? What crimes did he commit to be punished non stop?
Jax felt like he would soon loose all his sanity, just by listening to Nexus spouting about killing all day long. What more could happen, if he actually gave consent to accomplish its meaningless tasks?
A sociopath?
Jax shuddered violently at the single thought and compelled his brain to dispel all those thoughts from its depths as he again shifted his focus back onto the fat creepy guy, who had been staring at his face intently from the moment they laid their eyes upon each other.
Jax then contemplated on what to ask the man in grey who was grinning at him all this time.
"How to get rid of this voice in my head?" Finally, Jax asked the fat guy, Marco, after deciding to hit the nail on the head directly, in other words, laying out the most concerned issue that made them both meet with each other.
"It's not an easy feat to get rid of this system..." The man started hesitantly as if he were a sub ordinate who was internally debating whether to reveal a piece of information he managed to get his hands on to his superior.
Seeing this, annoyed Jax as he felt that this man was trying to portray things very complicated than they actually were. So he cut him off rather impatiently.
"Just spit it out, if you know a way to solve my problem. Why bother playing Tai chi with words?" Jax almost screamed, but managed to tone down his volume when he remembered the never empty prison corridors.
Except for the wee hours of the night, there would always be someone, either a fellow inmate or a surveying guard, wandering about in the hallways. So he couldn't risk shouting which would then expose their unexplainable secret meeting to the whole prison.
"You need to find the MONARCH to help you with it." Marco answered slowly, as if he were revealing some deadly secret.
