Chapter 1 - Chapter one

I sighed as a bullet zipped by my head. I returned fire and watched as it ripped through my intended target. I turned my guns to the next target. I shot bullets firing as fast as my guns would let me. With each bullet I fired, another enemy died, shot straight through the heart. I sighed thinking about how I got into this stupid war.

~

I yawned as I sat up sunlight streaming into my small apartment in San Francisco. I stood and stretched before grabbing a hair tie and putting my long silver hair up. I walked over to my door and growled. My mail slot was full again. I grabbed the mail and it looked to be trash mail.

I grumbled shaking my head and walked to the small kitchen throwing the mail on the counter. I opened the mini fridge and reached in grabbing a bottle of water. I opened the bottle and drank some of it before putting it back in the refrigerator after putting the lid back on it. I then walked back over to my bed and opened the chest at the bottom of the bed. I heaved a breath pulling out my clothes. I pulled on my long sleeve black skin tight shirt before putting on my steel grey tank top.

I pulled on my pants before I grabbed my mail from the counter throwing away the letters sent by General S.S. Howser. I huffed he had been trying to recruit me for the army for over a year now. I knew soon enough though the army would start drafting people for war though. I knew that world war four would probably start soon as well. As things were the world countries had been at an opposition for some time now and it was at the level for all out war.

I finished sorting through my mail, throwing away most of it and I grabbed the trash can. I went to my door and unlocked it before walking out into the small hallway. I walked down the hallway and threw my trash down the trash shut before going back to my apartment. I went in; shut my door and sat on my bed looking around at the bare white walls.

I never had anything to show, no pictures or anything. I grabbed my leg wraps or as most called them bandages and I started to wrap my legs. I soon finished wrapping my legs and then threw my shoes on before I headed out for work. I walked down the hallway after locking my apartment door behind me and opened the door to the stairs, heading down swiftly. Most people now days were unhealthy or fat and used the elevators unlike me. I reached the first floor and walked out of the stairway.

I turned looking at the counter man as he called out to me saying "Hey Kanami! Off to work?" I nodded "yeah, see yah".

I walked out headed down the crowded street. I knew the guy was trying to flirt with me but I had no interest. I weaved through the crowds headed for the gym. I walked down the street soon reaching the gym. I walked into the gym and checked myself in for work before I went over to my station and set up the equipment before my client showed.

I silently sighed as I spotted my client as he weight-lifted a mere fifteen pounds struggling with it. He was a really rich but fat guy and I listened as he spoke, "you know you would look a lot cuter with a smile" I shrugged "I can't smile". That of course was a lie; I could smile but it would be fake and the only time I could truly smile anymore was during a fight.

I thought back to when I was normal and could smile at the simple things barely listening to my client. I nodded softly as my client said after a while "well that's a real shame". I then continued to spot him as he weight-lifted all the while he talked nonstop.

I finished working with my first client of the day and cleaned the area up. I looked up and internally groaned seeing general S.S. Howser by the front desk waiting. I sighed walking over a cold irritated look on my face which was fairly normal for me nowadays.

General S.S. Howser smiled seeing me walk up "I'm sure you don't want this and all but the draft has started for the war and you're the first to receive your draft since, I brought you yours right away" I groaned "great" I said with as much sarcasm as I could muster. I frowned unhappily as Howser chuckled and said "well you should go home pack your things. In two days you'll be picked up at 6:00 A.M." I huffed "fine but what about my work?"

I then heard the desk receptionist "oh no worries love it's all been taken care of already and you're all done for the day too" I sigh and glared coldly at Howser as he just smiled. I shook my head then headed out headed home.

I walked out and looked around the streets. There was less traffic and people. I headed down the street, it was less crowded at this time but even still it was a hassle. I moved down the street and reached the building I lived in. I walked into the building ignoring the desk man as he greeted me and I entered the stairwell starting up at a quick even pace. I used to not be able to even get to the second floor using the stairs without getting tired but now I could go up and down the whole building several times without breaking a sweat. I used to also be heavy-set if not fat but, after the accident I could no longer sit down and do a desk job or sit still long. I climbed the stairs at first then; I became a personal fit trainer. And now look where that has turned into,a war, I have little or nothing to do with.

I reached the eighth floor and exited the stairwell. I headed down the hallway to my apartment. I unlocked the door before I opened it and went in. I shut the door behind me and sighed going to my closet and grabbing the small bag I had

in there. I opened the bag and started to gather what little stuff I had. I didn't care for stuff anymore either after that accident. I walked to my nightstand and opened the drawer and pulled out my Glock 40 ACP pistol. I made sure it was on safety before I put it in its case and packed it away. I then reached under my pillow and pulled out my Ruger 9mm pistol. I grabbed its case and put it in before all packing it away keeping only a knife on my nightstand just Incase.

I finished packing and sat on my bed thinking. I sighed getting up and walked out deciding I could use the free time I had to work out or keep busy. I headed down the hallway and then entered the stairwell going down swiftly. I reached the bottom of the stairs and exited the stairwell. I stopped dead in my tracks as I saw general S.S. Howser at the front desk talking with the desk man. I then walked over, speaking with a disgruntled tone of voice "now what?"

Howser chuckled "well I forgot to tell you that you won't be going to boot camp. It would be useless for you anyway. I pulled some strings and so you'll now be going straight to the battlefield." I grumbled "that all?" Howser nodded "yup" I nodded "good, bye."

I walked outside and started for the gym. I couldn't stand to stay still. I walked down the street avoiding the parked vehicles headed to the gym. I entered the gym as I reached it. I walked over to the treadmill and got on starting to jog. I continued to jog as I saw people walk in and out. I soon stopped jogging after about an hour or so then went to weight lift. I lifted weights without a spotter so I only lifted half of what I could normally, which was 410 pounds. I gathered a lot of attention when weight lifting but what I could lift was no world record for sure I wasn't even close to the world record of 1260 pounds.

I soon finished working out and left the gym headed down the street to get something to eat for the day. I usually ate once a day and not that much either. I could no longer eat very much when I did eat. I walked down the street soon reaching the local cafe I always ate at. I walked in and found a seat at the counter. I sat down and nodded to Mary the waiter. I didn't have to wait long for Mary to come back with a plate of potatoes, small minute steak and some carrots on it. I nodded "thanks" I then paid for my meal then began to eat.

I ate til I could no longer which wasn't long. I could only eat about half of the plate. I sighed then gave the rest of my food to the homeless guy that lived in the back alley. I always gave him my leftover food. I left the cafe and walked down the street. I headed home with a slight stifled yawn. I sighed it would be a long two days.
