I stood there watching as they retreated. I sighed before going to someone who was crying in pain in the trench. I jumped down into the trench close to the man and walked over before crouching down next to the man. I put my blade away before examining the wound on the man. He had a shoulder injury. I then took the man's hand and placed it on the wound
"hold the pressure until you get to the infirmary and they take care of your injury" the man nodded.
I nodded before I stood walking towards another injured person. I knew what I was doing and it seemed most were injured because they had not worn their kavalier. I crouched next to a man who had a gut shot. I placed my hand over the wound and frowned before calling over to another man "You, get over here! Put pressure on his wound" I nodded once the man did as I told him and I stood and pointed to another man "Run and get the medics!"
I then went over to another injured person who had a gunshot through the arm and ripped some of my jacket I had on to tourniquet the man's arm till the medics got there. I then went to the next man and gritted my teeth. The man's face was shredded. I looked at the wound before covering the wound and checking his spine for injury. I didn't feel any damage and carefully picked the man up. The man needed immediate care. Faster than the medics could on the field. I stood and ordered the men around "tend to the injured! Put pressure on their wounds till the medics arrive!"
I then jumped out of the trench and headed to the base as fast as I dared with the man. I ran past the man I had told to get the medics and soon saw the fence for the base. The gate was closed and I knew the man did not have time for the gates to open. I jumped over the fence and shocked the guards there but ignored them as I ran to the infirmary with the injured man. I heard the shouts of the men but ignored them as I slowed as I entered the infirmary and called out.
"Urgent patient! Gunshot wound to the face! Needs immediate surgery!" I spotted a gurney and lay the man down and stepped back as startled medics rushed forward to care for the man. I then looked over the the soldiers as they entered the infirmary. I walked over to a medic. "I need supplies to take to the field with me to treat the injured. There are at least six more injured out there that need attention." I watched as the medic blinked before handing me a bag full of immediate care supplies seemingly unsure but still gave them up.
I then headed towards the soldiers and didn't pay them no mind as they had heard from one of the medics what I had came here for. I watched as the soldiers considered me with both fear and awe. I shrugged and brushed past them. I exited the infirmary then ran over to the gate, which was still closed. I then jumped once again over the fence and headed for the trench with the bag of medical supplies. I ran swiftly not wasting any movements. I saw the trench and slowed till I Stopped at the edge of the trench.
I dropped down into the trench and headed over to another man who was injured that I had not treated before. As I approached I startled the man who had a hand covering the man's wound. I nodded to him and crouched down. I moved the man's hand away and carefully looked at the wound which was a bullet wound to the man's arm. I then took out some bandages from the bag I had been given and went to work wrapping the wound as soon as I rinsed it out with water. I could tell the bullet had gone clean through and was in no real danger.
I soon finished and stood headed to the next man. Before I could reach the man I knew he was dead and went to walk to another injured but the man by the dead man's side cried out to me.
"What are you doing! Help him!" I looked coldly at the man "I cannot save a dead man." My voice was cold and devoid of emotion. The man growled and pointed his gun at me saying. "You will help him" I heaved a breath not at all feeling the need to fear the man nor his gun. "I will not waste my time nor others time to try and save a man who clearly cannot be saved. The man has had his head shot. I will save only those that I know are still alive." my voice was as cold as the tundra in a blizzard.
I watched as the man lowered his gun and began to cry. I shrugged and continued to the injured man that was crying out in pain. I took notice that everyone had gone deathly silent except for the injured. I crouched next to the injured man and saw that he had a gunshot wound to his left leg. I crouched down next to him and examined the wound noting the odd position his leg was in and saw that the man had been lucky since the bullet had just missed his artery and veins. I gently felt the leg and sighed. The man's bone had been shattered. I then rinsed the wound out with water which caused the man to cry out in pain. I then started to wrap the wound in bandages and made a temporary splint to stabilize the leg.
Once I finished, I stood and carried on to the next injured. This time the man was holding his face. I asked him to remove his hand and examined the wound that was on the man's face. The man had festering welts on his face from what seemed to be buckshot. I held out and gauze and the man took it uncertainly.
I stood "Press it to the wound and head to base." the man nodded and did as I told him before one of his buddies walked over to help him. I nodded and walked over to another injured and frowned. I knelt besides the man and pressed two of my fingers to the side of his neck to check for a pulse. I found a faint pulse and looked him over for a wound and chuckled coldly without emotion.
"Hey, you. Watch over this man when he wakes head to the base." The man paused but nodded and did as he was told.
I stood and walked over to another injured person. This time it was a woman. I noticed right away her injuries were serious and crouched next to her. The woman had both a bullet wound in her chest as well as a shoulder wound a little too close to her vain for my comfort. I put gaws over the wound in her chest and carefully packed it to hold the bleeding at bay. I then started to hear the woman gasping for breath. Her lung had collapsed. I took a syringe from the bag and stuck the needle in her chest before pulling the back of the syringe all the way out and she gasped for air and started to breathe as normally as one could in pain. I nodded and carefully wrapped the wound on her shoulder.
I could tell she was going in shock and knew time was of the essence. I growled she was losing blood and fast. I then grabbed a bag of blood and double checked the blood type of the women from her dog tags before I started an IV. I then gripped the bag in my teeth and gently picked the woman up before and jumped out of the trench. I then ran for the base. I ran with barely any pause or touch to the ground to move forward. I then passed the medics as they rushed to the battlefield to help the injured.
I saw the gate to the base and smiled my relief since I would not have to jump the fence with the injured women. I ran through the gate and barely paused as I entered the infirmary. I slowed and paused before hurrying to a gurney and gently set the woman down before hooking the the bag of blood to the pole attached to the bed. I then checked the woman's pulse while I called out.
"Female, AB blood. Gunshot to her chest. Collapsed lung and possible internal hemorrhaging! Gunshot to shoulder." I stepped back. "Heart rate dropping!"
I watched as doctors rushed over and started to get to work. I stood back watching till they started to take her to surgery. I nodded my head before heading back out. I walked out of the infirmary and then started back to the battlefield. I took a deep breath before I started running back to the battlefield. I ran with surprising stealth and speed. I ran avoiding the landmines. I was far more relaxed being in the center of the battle with bullets flying at me then when I was talking with someone.
I saw the trench and slowed to a jog. I then stopped at the edge of the trench and saw that most of the injured were being treated. I heard a medic call out for help and I jumped down into the trench and headed over.
"What do you need?" The medic only glanced at me before talking "He isnt breathing!" I nodded and examined the man and saw the problem and went to work. The man's aorta had been sliced and he was losing blood. I used a tuniquet the wound and started compressions while I also cleared his airway. As I went I explained what I was doing. I then realized why the medic had not done such. The medic was a newbie and didn't know what he was doing as he was panicked.
I worked and stopped as I heard the sound of the man's heart beat. I then placed a breathing tube down the man's throat and commenced the breathing for the man with the tube connected to a bag. I barely noticed as another medic came up and started to help. I checked the man for other injuries and did not find any more. I nodded once someone came up with a stretcher. I carefully with the help of the new medic picked the man up and placed him on the stretcher.
I stepped back as a couple of soldiers picked up the stretcher with the man on it. I watched before going and helping the soldiers as they took the injured out of the trench. I noticed a young looking soldier and was almost immediately concerned. The man looked pale more so than any other person I had ever treated. I hurried over and helped the soldiers get him out of the trench. I walked next to the stretcher as they headed for base. I continuously kept checking the man's pulse. I noticed the man's pulse was dropping. I frowned and looked for a wound. I could see no evident injury and realized he had internal hemorrhaging. I stopped the soldiers carrying him and had them set him down. I crouched next to him and listened to his breathing. What I heard made my blood run cold. I could hear gurgling. The man was going to choke on his own blood. I rolled the man on his side and I could hear his breathing clear some. The man then started to cough and I gently patted his back and soon a stream of blood left his mouth. I then pressed my ear to the side of his chest and heard the sound of what I'm sure was blood. I scowled and rolled the man back on his back.
"Hurry and carry him to the infirmary. You don't hurry; he will either die or I'll have to perform surgery out here in the open with a very high possibility he will die." The soldiers nodded and picked him up and hurried as fast as they dared headed for the infirmary. I walked right next to them keeping an eye on the injured man. I saw the gate and our progress was slowed as we avoided the land mines. As soon as we were past the gates we hurried to the infirmary. I entered with the man and shouted out.
"I need a trauma bay prepped for surgery now!" I hurried to the first trauma bay that was opened and entered before having the soldiers set the man down on the gurney in the trauma bay. I went to the wash bin in the room and sterilized my hands before I suited up in scrubs and put gloves on. I then went to the man and rolled him on his side. I then worked on getting his kavaler shit off. Once the shirt was off I saw a huge bruise covering his chest just over his heart. I cursed. I would have to do surgery and check the man's heart for any puncture wounds. I saw a medic come in and helped me get the man hooked up to an IV to start a blood transfusion.
I then started to prep the man for open heart surgery. I then rolled the man back onto his back and placed a tube down his throat. I then sedated the man and made the first incision. I then got to work on opening the man's chest. I soon saw his heart and started the suction to remove the excess blood. I then saw the problem. Then man had a hole in his heart from a bone shard that had been propelled there. How the man had even lived for so long was a mystery but I knew I could fix the hole in his heart and keep him from dying today.
I grabbed a needle and thread and swiftly stitched the hole in the man's heart after removing the bone shard. I soon finished and made sure there was no more bleeding before I closed the man up and stepped back for the medics who stepped into the room. I took the gloves off, mask and then removed the scrubs I had put on. I threw the gloves away and put the scrubs in the sanitation container. I looked up as the medic who had been helping me during the entire procedure walked up. Shock was evident in every crease of the medics face.
