"Wow didn't think you had the balls Danni boi."
I glared at Kail as I gently lifted her into my arms, her wings limp behind her. Peter approached kissing her on the forehead, he looked at me.
"You had no choice."
I nodded gently kissing her on the lips before I handed her over to Kail.
"Hide her well Kail I will try to buy you both some time."
Kail for once abandoning his dark humour, for all his don't care attitude I could tell he had real feelings for her.
"I won't let anything happen to her, good luck little bother."
I watched as Kail left with her in his arms, I couldn't look away. I had no idea if I would ever see her again but at least she would be safe with Kail.
I felt Peter's hand on my shoulder.
"You really do love her don't you?"
"More than I ever thought possible."
I headed for the door.
"Dantalis you know what they will do to you."
I sighed not looking back.
"I must face my punishment, while they are dealing with me Kail will already have her safe in the underworld."
Cam quickly blocked the door
"You cant do this I told you before they will just send another and you will have died for what? to give a few more days of life whats the point lets think about this."
I opened my mouth to answer however I could sense they were here before they even showed themselves.
Before any of us could react two angels appeared beside me each grabbing hold of one of my arms. I didn't struggle as they forced me to me knees facing the room behind us.
"Of all people to have a change of heart you were the last person to come to mind."
Michael entered from Reece's room to stand before me looking down like an executioner.
"Where is she?"
Peter summoned his sword
"Michael-"
Not even looking Michael yelled
"I will deal with you later!"
Peter was held like me by a third and Gabriel as they forced him to his knees. Peter stopped struggling when he saw Gabriel. Anger instantly fueled in his face.
"still doing Mihcaels dirty work I see."
"Be silent for once in your life Peter."
Gabriel smashed the hilt of his sword into Peters head knocking him unconscious.
"take him back and put him in a cell."
Michael smiled at the exchange as he turned back to me
"I will find her Dantalis mark my words I will not let evil win because of one angel too selfish to realise her death will save the world."
He looked to the angels still holding me down.
"Take him away we will deal with him when we get back."
"What about the human and the other one?"
One of the lackies behind me asked
"erase the humans memories and bring Camdahar with us he can share his brothers fate."
"No! Please Michael he has nothing to do with this hes innoc-"
One of the angels lifted the hilt of his sword and knocked me on the head, I fell to the floor the last thing I saw was Gabriels eyes there was so much torment in them.
—————
I woke hours later my head pounding I was in a cell with trinium bars. I could see other cells Peter was across from me in the cell next to him was Cam both were still unconscious.
"Dantalis?"
A womans voice broke through the silence
"whos there?"
"my name is Sariel."
"Sariel?"
Peter slowly began to wake up as he stared at the cell next to mine in disbelief
"how is this possible I was told you were dead."
Realisation dawned on me
"Reeces mother?"
She laughed sadly
"yes it's a long story."
"Whats going on?"
Cam moaned as he started to wake up
"listen we don't have much time Dantalis. Gabriel told me You spared Reeces life for that I am forever grateful. I will forever be in your debt, but I must ask you to do one more thing for me."
"what is it?"
"make sure Gabriel keeps his promise."
"I don't understand."
"you will when the time comes you will."
"very well."
I felt rather then saw her smile
"thank you, Reece couldn't have found a more fitting mate."
Peter and Cam remained silent knowing the weight of her words even if like myself they didn't understand them.
The door opened loudly down the hall as a guard approached Peters cell
"you have been charged with the crime of treason and have been found guilty the punishment, death."
"What!"
I yelled
"this is ridiculous all he did was raise a new angel as a human how is that treason?"
The guard turned to me
"be silent your time will come you are all traitors of heaven and as such will be dealt with accordingly."
Turning back to Peter he continued
"Your execution will be tonight by sword as a warrior."
Here he paused
"be grateful you did not receive a cowards death."
With that he left
"Michael has lost his mind."
Cam punched a wall
"fear is a powerful thing it muddles the mind and creates enemies where none exist, Micheal has feared this prophecy for a millennia with each year that fear grows."
Sariels words forced us all into silence.
———-
Hours later the door opened again, Peter stood head held high. The guards lead him out as he passed he turned towards me.
"tell Reece I loved her like my own daughter."
"thank you Peter for looking after her when I could not."
He smiled sadly at Sariel
"I only wish I could have done more after all that you did for me."
"you did more then enough you gave her love that's all I could have hoped for."
"enough get a move on traitor."
The gaurds pushed him down the hall and out the door. I couldn't believe this was happening I felt like I was in a dream it was only a few weeks ago that I had been given the mission to kill Reece. Everything just seemed so unreal
"do not despair Dantalis I have hope this is not the end."
Sariels words did nothing to calm me as the guard returned not a half hour later
Without a word he approached my cell.
Opening the bars he placed chains around my wrists then used them to pull me towards the door.
"where are you taking him?"
I heard Cam ask from behind me
the guard smiled
"the be interrogated"
I scoffed interrogated indid it was a kind way of saying totured.
I was lead through narrow hallways rounding a corner we passed two angels carrying Peters body his wings dragged along the ground. I gritted my teeth in anger. The demon inside me laughed.
The guard pulling me didn't leave me time to dwell on what I had just seen as he lead me to another bigger room. Here I was chained to the ceiling by my hands ,my legs chained to the floor limiting my movements. I was in a grey bricked cell with no windows and only one door. I pulled against the chains knowing it was futile but I tried none the less.
"It's useless you cannot escape."
Michael entered the room his pure white wings towering behind him.
"I'll give you one more chance to redeem yourself. Now where is she?"
I refused to answer the image of Peter's still form fresh in my mind.
no matter what they did to me, I would not betray her.
He scowled.
"Do you realise what you're doing? She is the bringer of death, she must be killed before she destroys the world."
I shook my head.
"How do you know she's the one from the prophesy? What if you are wrong then you would be killing an innocent?"
"We cannot take that chance!"
He screamed.
"Better to kill her then risk the lives of those we have sworn to protect."
I refused his words.
"She has a good heart she would never hurt anyone."
Michael punched me white angel fire fuelling his knuckles, my head reeled with the force of it and burned at the same time.
"What's the life of one angel compared to the entire world?"
"I will not let you murder her!"
Michael punched me again.
"You will talk Dantalis."
He used his power to create a golden dagger of light.
"Do what you must Michael I have endured worse."
It was true I had endured the pain of torture more than once. Michael smiled at my words.
"I'm well aware of your past Dantalis it was why you were chosen, however your previous experiences were a walk in the park compared to what you will endure as you will soon find out."
I refused to make a sound as he proceeded to enter my mind. Every torment I had ever been through was relived as he shifted through my memories.
The pain was unbearable but still a remained silent, I must have passed out at some stage for when my eyes opened hours later I was alone. The pain of reliving everything my father ever did to me fresh as if it had happened all over again. My head felt like it had been split open from the force of his invasion.
The door opened and Gabriel entered quietly, I watched him closely unsure of his intentions. He pulled out a container filled with water and carefully lifted it to my lips. I drank not even caring if this was a trick, judging by the taste of it the water was untainted.
"Why?"
Was all I could manage after drinking my fill, Gabriel looked at me waring emotions in his eyes.
"Because you spared her life?"
I glared at him.
"which is more than I can say for you."
His face paled
Anger rose in my heart.
"you gave up on her you failed to protect her from him"
Gabriel started at me in disbelief.
"just as you failed to protect Katianna you tore her apart"
For the first time in years tears escaped my eyes for the female that was like a sister to me, I blinked them back before I answered.
"I never laid a finger on Katianna, it was Kail who defiled her because she was spying on him as a favour to me. I didn't make the killing blow but it was my fault she was there."
Gabriel stared in disbelief as pain entered his eyes.
"Sariel begged me to kill her, she knew it was the only way I could help our daughter. She knew that while she lived Michael would continue to use her to keep me in line. I refused I couldn't kill her she is my mate how could I end her life."
It was then that I realised what Sariel had meant when she said make sure he keeps his promise. He promised her he would save Reece even if it meant her life.
My mind reeled everything Reece knew about her parents was wrong, everything they did was to keep her alive. I sighed.
"You need not worry she is safe and will remain so, Michael will not get a thing from me."
"It's no wonder you changed after that day Dantalis, after what you went through. What you're going through now you will never be the same. I have seen many break after Michael has done what he is doing to you now, you will not be the same."
I smiled.
"He can do what he will, as long as she is safe it matters not what happens to me."
The door slammed open.
"Gabriel leave now!"
Michael glared at Gabriel as he took one last look my way then left without another word. Michael watched him leave then closed the door after him.
With steel in my heart I glared back at him knowing my pain would only get worse, the darkness deep inside me begged to surface. I could feel it starting to boil in my heart it was only a matter of time before it spilled forth. In my weakened state the only thing holding it back was my connection to heaven without it I knew there would be no hope of keeping it at bay.
