as her power grew so did the reds at the tips climbing up the feathers engulfing them like fire, as she calmed down they desended back to the tips. I had never seen this before in an angel I mean our wings glowed with power sure but never did they change colour it was as if the red was in desparate need of devouring the black it was beautiful and dangerous at the same time. I had no idea what it meant but I knew it couldn't be good.
I held her in my arms as she passed out her steady breathing evening out as she slept.
"What now?"
I asked Peter
"Follow me we'll go to my house."
Turning he yelled
"Come on Bree we're leaving."
Bree ran across the beach
"is she alright?"
"Just exhausted, summoning that much power at once is taxing on the mind and soul."
"Come on lets get out of here before anyone else comes."
I nodded to peter
"grab bree and ill follow."
Peter nodded as he scooped Bree up into his arms.
"Whoa what cant we just drive?"
"it would take too long."
"god I hate flying."
She grumbled
It didn't take us long to get to peters even though it was outside the city on a small country farm surrounded by trees.
As we landed Bree practically leap out of Peters arms
"oh god I think im going to be sick."
Peter laughed
"and I thought you were the tough one."
She playfully punched him in the arm
"not funny there a diffenence between being seated between panels of steel to being in someones arms who could easily drop you to your death."
"Awe come on surely you have more faith in my flying skills then that."
Suddenly I sensed another angel heading towards us
"Peter take them into the house."
Instantly serious Peter scooped Reece out of my arms
"Friendly?"
I knew who it was but as to whether they were friendly was still to be determined.
"I know who it is just get her inside."
Nodding he turned to Bree
"Come Bree, now!"
Once in the house I turned to wait for what was coming.
Landing in front of me Cam punched me square in the jaw, I could have countered but I knew I deserved it for what I had done to him.
"What the fuck Dantalis, how could you do that to me? We're supposed to be sworn brothers."
"Cam please under-"
"No what you did was unforgivable never turn your back on your oath that is what you taught me."
"I couldn't let you kill her."
"let me kill her! Since when do you care? that's our mission she must die so that the balance is maintained."
"Its more complicated than that."
"What are you even talking about! You know what they will do to you if you don't kill her?"
"better me than her!"
We were both shouting now.
"Are you even hearing yourself, so you will die to save one angel,"
"shes not just one angel shes my mate."
"Oh so now your admitting it, have you marked her yet?"
"No of corse not."
"then theres still time kill her now before its your life."
"Your asking me to kill the only person ive ever truly loved I can not do it and if that means I must die to keep her alive then that's what ill do."
He growled in anger
"don't you get it you will die because you refuse to kill her but once your dead they will just send another to finish the job and she will die anyway. Your sacrifice will have been for nothing youll only be delaying the inevitable."
"don't you think I know that!"
Panting I turned away from him how did this happen? With all the turmoil I felt weakened, I could feel the darkness starting to break out of its cage. How could I save her? Judging by her reaction to becoming angel would she even let me save her? All these question ran through my mind.
in a calmer voice cam spoke placing a hand on my shoulder
"We will find a way."
Turning a shook my head
"no cam ill not let you be apart of this in helping deobey a direct order you will be condemned alongside me."
He shrugged
"sworn forever."
He held out his hand, staring down I clasped his wrist
"sworn forever."
"if you too are just about done."
Both of us turned to face Peter as he stood on the porch arms folded across his chest.
"come inside both of you there is alot to discuss."
Gathered in the living room Cam sat down on the couch preferring to stand i lean against the wall staring into the fire place. Peter sat opposite cam
"Cam!"
Bree came spriting from down the hall way hugging Cam looking behind him she smiled
"wow your wings are so pretty."
"what the fuck you can see them?"
Cam looked to me, shrugging I turned back to the fire
"Sorry am I interrupting?"
"You might as well stay since you can see us now this concerns you aswell."
Peter motioned for bree to sit taking the seat next to Cam.
"Well looks like we've got ourselves in quite a predicament."
I spun around
"gee you think,"
"theres no need to be a smart arse Dantalis."
Chastised I once again faced the fire finding its flames far more comforting then this conversation.
"Well its obvious why you both are here but I need to know do you plan to go through with it?"
Angry now my wings flaring
"of course not do you think she would still be alive If I did."
"I don't know perhaps your plan is to use her rather then kill."
I scoffed at this
"Your deranged we should be thinking of a plan not wasting time talking about this."
"Ive known Michael for far longer then you Dantalis his resolve is absolute, he believes what he is doing is for the greater good."
"how can you say that? he wants Reece dead and for what? for being born! How can you defend him?"
"Im not defending him im just trying to make you understand that its not just a matter of keeping her alive its convincing Michael that she will not bring about the destruction he believes she will be the cause of. He forced his sworn brother to kill his marked mate does that not show how strong his belief is?"
"I know all this. what is your point?"
"you are only new to this situation I have had twenty years to try find a way to save her you are talking about something that reaches the impossible."
"so you give up, your as bad as Gabriel."
"I have not given up I have raised her since she was a baby she is my daughter but short of sending her somewhere Michael cant reach her I just don't-"
"what did you just say?"
Peter looked at me raising an eyebrow
"shes my daughter-"
I shook my head
"no after that. You said send her somewhere Michael cant reach her."
"Bro don't even think about it."
Peter looked from Cam back to me as an idea formed in my mind it was the only way
"Bree give me Reeces phone."
Bree who had stayed silent through the whole exchanged jumped when spoken to
"Why?"
Even as she asked that she handed the phone over.
Jumping up Peter snatched it away from me
"Are you insane sending her there will only fuel
Michaels suspicions further."
"Can you think of another way?"
Peter open his mouth as if to say something then closed it again that was all the answer I needed.
I took Reeces phone from his hand dialing the number.
he picked up after only two rings
"Finally come to your senses have you beautiful."
"Kail get your arse to Reece's father's house now!"
Before he could answer i hang up.
"What do you think your doing?"
Everyone spun around to face Reece standing with her hands on her hips.
"Answer me!"
"Reece it's the only way, Kaileon may be evil but I see how he looks at you, he will protect you."
"Who the fuck do you think you are? you have no right to make decisions for me, I will not hide away ive done nothing wrong."
"It's the only way Michael can not reach you there it's the only place safe for you and none of us can take you there it must be him only an angel of hell may enter since you haven't chosen a side you're the exception to the rule."
"I know the law Dantalis it doesn't change the fact that I would be stuck down there never allowed to leave. Michael will not change his mind he will forever want me dead and nothing can change that hiding away wont solve anything."
"but it will keep you alive, ill go to Michael I will make him see that you are not a threat."
"This is ridiculous Michael will kill you at first sight for failing. it would be suicide and Kail? Of all the forsaken i will not go running to Kail for help you can not force me to. "
Turning she left the house slamming the door behind her
"Shes right you know its exactly as I said outside you will die for nothing."
I scowled at him
"give it a rest Cam"
"Just saying bro."
I left them behind going after Reece
Outside Reece sat on an old wooden swing using her wings instead of her feet to move backwards and forwards. Stopping as I approached
"just leave me alone Dantalis."
"I cant."
Standing she started to walk past me
"fine ill leave."
I grabbed her arm forcing her back
"Reece stop!"
I stared at her trying to find the words.
"do you think I like the idea of him being anywhere near you?"
She refused to look into my eyes, slowly I gently lifted her chin forcing her to look at me.
Tears were in her eyes
"There has to be another way."
"This is the only way."
I pulled her lips towards my own, she fought me at first then gave in as she leaned into the kiss. I felt her relax for the first time since her change I requested axcess with my tougue and she granted me entry as they met in a feverish dance leaving us both panting.
Parting I embraced her tightly whispering in her ear
"I will not let them kill you."
She sighed
"you may have no choice."
Her words stung for their implications. She went back into the house just as kail landed.
"So little bro finally you see it my way?"
"Shut up kail"
He followed behind as I lead the way.
Back in the living room kail seemed smug as he looked around his eyes settling on Reece and her newly formed wings.
"Love the new look babe, can't wait to test you out."
my wings started to glow with anger.
"You will keep your hands off her or I'll slice you into a thousand pieces."
"Hey mate you called me."
"You know why I called you Kaileon but if you ever even think about touching her in that way again I will kill you. She is mine."
Reece placed herself in between kail and myself
"Both of you stop it."
Refusing to move I sighed
"We don't have time for this. You two need to leave now before Michael realises that I have not killed you."
Kail tried to grab her hand, but she avoided his searching fingers turning to confront me.
"I told you I wont hide"
"you must Reece it's the only way to keep you safe."
"Reece please if this the only way then you must go."
Reece looked to Bree her best friend
"You don't even know where they want me to go."
"If it keeps you safe what does it matter."
Reece sighed
"Fine but I wont hide forever"
Turning to me she pleaded
"come with me."
I shook my head
"what? I cant you know I cant im an angel of heaven I can't enter."
"Renounce heaven become a fallen."
I stared at her in shock
"you don't know what your asking me to do."
"why do you stay with them? all they do is use you for their own purposes. They have always treated you like a spawn of satan like you did not belong. if you go back there they will kill you."
"No Reece you don't understand-"
"what don't I understand Dantalis what is so god dam important that you must stay with them."
Frustrated I yelled
"because it's the only thing keeping the demon within me at bay!"
All eyes turned towards me I sighed turning away from their stunned silence.
"That night at the club, that is only a portion of what lies inside me. I choose Heaven because only heavens power keeps it from taking over. Do you get it now I have no choice its either stay with heaven and Face whatever my future will be or loose myself. loose who I am to this… this thing inside me."
"You're not going back there are you? Dantalis they will kill you for what you've done."
I turned towards my one and only blood brother
"I need to buy you some time-"
Reece shook her head
"NO! I wont let you go back I will keep back the demon I did it at the club didn't I surely I will be enough!"
"What if your not what if I hurt you like I did then worse still what if I do kill you? I couldn't handle that."
Kail tried to grab her again she spun around summoning her weapons.
"don't touch me im not going with you Kail."
Quickly I did the only thing I could wrapping my arms around her neck I applied enough pressure to force her to pass out. Caught by surprise her struggles were futile. Leaning in I whispered.
"Forgive me I love you you are my soulmate."
"Dantalis…"
Tears formed in her eyes as they trailed down her cheeks just as her body relaxed in sleep.
