Guy looked at the orc mechanic for a moment before shaking his head. "It is true that I have an open schematic, and that I have sufficient skills to create a firearm. But I need more time if I am going to maximize my potential with the single schematic I have available. I want to gain more knowledge, take apart more machines and do more repairs."
"You will gain more schematics as you gain more experience. What do you plan on doing if you're suddenly attacked?"
"I will think of something, It's not like I'm proficient with guns anyways."
Esabel looked at him like he was stupid while shaking her head. "Who ever taught you to be a mechanic? Mechanics are proficient with anything they personally designed. That's why making your first schematic is so important. It is the only way to gain a way to defend yourself"
"So if I Design it I am automatically proficient in it? I'm not just limited to weaponry? what if I designed let's say an engine?"
"You wouldn't be proficient with an engine? what is their to be proficient in? I mean you would know how to operate it..."
"And if I designed something like a boat?"
"A boat is a far more complex object. it would take multiple schematics. You would need to design the ship itself, as well as an engine for it, the rudder system.. It is best to start small, such as a gun. You would also need all of the parts to actually create it. I do not have the parts for that. All I have is the parts for smaller simpler things. Guns, small mechanical devices, ect.."
"Can I look over the parts you have? maybe I can design something I can use? I have plenty of experience designing products.."
The woman nodded and brought him to a large storage room. The room was cluttered, filled to the brim with several objects so broken they could not he repaired. There were guns, appliances and machines of all sorts. His brain started to whirl with ideas as he saw the massive stockpile of parts. "Can you explain to me the sources of energy in the Infinite Universe? Do you use solar power? Fossil fuels? Nuclear power?"
The woman nodded. "Those forms of power exist, however they are only used in less advanced civilizations. The more advanced civilizations like the orcs have instead begun to utilize the abundant energy that is present in the Infinite Universe. The energy is gathered through an array that feeds into a crystal core. The crystal core is like a rechargeable battery, passively absorbing the energy that surrounds us. Through another series of formations we harness this energy to power our mechanical devices. You should have noticed these in the firearms you repaired."
Guy nodded as he listened. "I did notice these things, The formations to gather energy and the energy they emitted were different on each of the guns.. I'm assuming that has to do with the fire power of the weapon?"
"Yes, each formation has to be formed, tested, and authenticated before it can be used to power anything. There is a data base of the more common formations, however anything that is really powerful is classified. You will have to gain more prestige with the Orcs to be able to access those. They are on the monitor near your work bench." The woman paused as she looked at Guy. "You are not as useless as most of the males. I half expected you to rush into creating something that would ultimately fail, wasting your schematic."
"Humans aren't like the orcs, regardless of gender we are able to reason and think. This of course does not mean that men aren't beasts. I think this is something that is true regardless of species. We just have to overcome our instincts, regardless of what they are telling us to do. Do you have any idea How hard it is to maintain eye contact with a woman who walks around topless? It's damn near impossible. And yet you orcs do it all the time! "
Guy turned his back on the orc as he looked into the formation files on the screen. There were thousands of them. one by one he looked through them, realizing that they were little more than gibberish to him. As he turned to ask Esabel he noticed her leaning on his counter, a sheet of paper in his her hand. She laughed as she handed him the list of runes that made up the formations.
"These are the low level runes that you will find in those formations. Study well little half orc."
