"They are the closest thing I have to a family. I may not be in any way related to them in terms of blood, but for once in my life, I treated them as my own family as well. I basically grew up with them yet they ran away, together with all my money. The inheritance that my parents left to me, they took it from me and left me buried in their debts instead."
When Syra was once again reminded of the money that she lost as well as the supposed opportunity to give her life a change, her heart ached.
But knowing that there was no point thinking about the things that she did not have control over, Syra chose to only put it at the back of her mind.
Naomi felt sorry towards Syra when he heard her story and so he told the other party something that he reckoned would cheer her up at least.
"Don't worry little girl, things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect."
Syra smiled when she heard that. For some reason, it sounded so reassuring. At the same time, she also could not help but admit that the cat sure knew more words of wisdom than she actually did.
Meanwhile, seeing that his words managed to brighten the other party's face again, Naomi felt proud of himself.
After a while, the tomcat added,
"Human sure is something else. Tsk! That was why we should never ever put our trust in them!
"Err... Naomi, I am a human too, lest you forget."
Syra reminded the other party.
"Then let us make you an exemption. Despite living here, I rarely met with other humans as Master Clyde hates their presence, to begin with. I don't know much about them, other than that they were deceptive creatures as how Master used to describe your race. But I want to believe that you are different."
Once again, when Syra heard Naomi's reply she was moved. She wondered how did a cat like him actually grow eloquent. Naomi's choice of words sometimes may tend to be a bit harsh, but most of the time he sounded comforting.
"But what if, I betrayed your trust someday???"
She asked out of the blue.
Syra waited for Naomi to answer her sudden question but what she did not expect was on how well the cat was able to respond to her.
"Trusting you is my decision, and proving me wrong is your choice."
The tomcat replied without bothering to stop what he was doing. He just finished scrubbing one side of the floor so he moved to its other side and resumed scrubbing the grime out of it.
He did not even lift his gaze to look at Syra when he said that.
"Naomi, you are so good with your words to the point that I can't help but want to give you a hug."
"But you can, you are my Hooman now???"
He replied before he put his mop down and walked towards Syra. Syra on the other hand happily accepted his offer and she picked up the cat and carried him next to her bosom as soon as it got neared her.
"I lost everything now, but at least I found a friend in return."
Syra thought out loud to which Naomi replied with another of his words of wisdom
"I've always believed that if something or someone is meant to be a part of your life, they will. Everything we lose or grow apart or move away from has a way of coming back to us."
THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT
